Greetings and welcome to Kevins Korner. Remember, on any given Sunday, I could write something intelligent. But I wouldnt count on it.
If youre thinking Im going to dance on the grave of the Herman Cain campaign, Im not your huckleberry. Like a lot of people, I was taken in by Cains incredible speaking ability and charm for a while. I also thought his candidacy would be good for the Republican Party. I truly feel bad for his family, my friends on the Cain campaign and his supporters, some of which I recruited. Its a terrible feeling when your candidate drops out. Ive been there.
Herman Cain inspired me so much that I gave up a job I love to try to help him get elected. It turned into one of the longest months of my life. I immediately saw that the problem-solving businessman could not solve the myriad of problems inside his own campaign. He did not surround himself with the best people on the national level and that, as much as anything, led to his downfall.
I will say the names some of the Cain folks were calling Ginger White were pretty disgusting Troglodyte, loser and lesbian were among the many. Classless There is one thing Im curious about. Cain said he could no longer raise the funds necessary to be competitive. However, his campaign was claiming they raised more than $9 million from October 1-November 10, which was more than double what he raked in the whole rest of the campaign. Did they already spend the entire $9 million? On what?
Cain says he will make an endorsement soon. Who gets it? A lot of people think fellow Georgian Newt Gingrich. Maybe. Given that they have similar scandals, I think Cains backing hurts Newt as much as helps. I could also see a backlash against Michele Bachmann for the same reasons.
To figure out who gets Cains endorsement, figure out who is hurt the most by Cain dropping out I mean, other than Pokemon Its Mitt Romney That is why Herman Cain will cut a deal and endorse Romney, just like he did four years ago Romney has the most to offer Cain and always snatches up those who drop out. The result would mean fracturing Cains supporters among the rest of the field, which is exactly what Romney wants.
Michele Bachmanns campaign didnt even wait for Cains announcement to declare that his supporters were flocking to her. That was total nonsense. Cains remaining supporters were diehards In an even dumber comment, the Bachmann campaign reportedly claimed she and Cain hold the same views on marriage and abortion. In their rush to try to snatch up Cains supporters, they clearly did not think things through very well Then again, Bachmann said late term abortion is a state issue, then claimed she didnt say that, despite videotape evidence, so her view on abortion is almost as unclear as Cains.
Bachmann has been good on the stump lately, but her campaign is not doing the Minnesota congresswoman any favors. The campaign improperly attained a Christian homeschooling organizations contact list and used it for political purposes. Barb Heki, a Bachmann staffer, is also NICHE board member. Or at least, she was. Heki no longer appears on the organizations website. NICHE president Justin LaVan indicated earlier in the week she might be removed from the board.
A lot of people are jumping to the defense of Barb Heki. Her defenders are rightfully saying Heki is an upstanding lady. I know Barb. She has always gone out of her way to be very nice to me and seems like someone of high morals I also know somehow, someone on Bachmanns campaign got a hold of that list and used it illegally. If it wasnt Barb, then who?
Who would have guessed that the most memorable thing from Mike Huckabees presidential forum would have been Ron Pauls fake eyebrows? Which his campaign denies he has, even though one of them started falling off as soon as Paul appeared on the screen And this isnt the first time I think Paul blew a great opportunity. After raising his eyebrow, he should have called the other candidates jabronis and dropped the Peoples Elbow on Huckabee That would have earned my caucus vote.
We live blogged the event, which was a fun and interesting chat The format was different and thats a good thing Newt shined as usual, Santorum and Bachmann did well, Perry scored with his Constitution reference and prop, Romney bobbed and weaved and Paul needed superglue for those caterpillars Fox News will televise the forum again twice Sunday night.
Jon Huntsman will not be allowed at next weekends GOP debate in Des Moines, but theyre bringing Huntsman back for the Sioux City debate later this month. Hes not allowed in the first one because he refuses to campaign in Iowa. They should ban him from all the debates because he refuses to be a Republican...
True. And I doubt we'll all flock to someone else today. Also, his endorsement means nothing to me. I'll make up my own mind and I suspect the rest of his supporters will, too. Much will be made of it, though, I'm sure.
“However, his campaign was claiming they raised more than $9 million from October 1-November 10, which was more than double what he raked in the whole rest of the campaign. Did they already spend the entire $9 million? On what?”
They often speak in gross numbers. It could have easily cost then $6 million to raise $9 million netting them only $3 million.
I care about outside endorsements a bit but not from former candidates and at this point many people don't have the guts to endorse the best candidate they are just waiting to try to endorse the eventual winner.
Odd that the attacks have suddenly vanished and the same folks are now clamouring for his supporters. Funny how that works, eh?
Why didn’t you stand behind him when he was unfairly accused, Cincinnatus? If the man was truly tarnished by the allegations one would think that his endorsement holds no weight.
Clearly that wasn’t the case. Good thing we have folks like you that are so transparant.
I think, perhaps, you meant to address your reply to someone else. I didn’t comment on fund raising. I commented concerning endorsements.
I didn't stop reading there, but I should have.
>> They often speak in gross numbers. It could have easily cost then $6 million to raise $9 million netting them only $3 million. >>
Nope, this was money that flowed in as Cain surged. It was not the result of any extended fund raising efforts. Plus, fund raising organizations usually work on a percentage of gross, and it’s nothing close to 60%.
I guess you turned for a moment in your comment to address me.
I made no remarks on endorsements sir.
I commented on the discussion of Ron Paul’s eyebrows.
Cain has said he could never support Gov. Perry, so I do not understand your admonition.
Cain has his wife standing beside him; he had Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity and a myriad of support and money. If you want someone to complain about, talk to your candidate.
Why? Kevin was telling the truth.
I actually believe Cain's denials about sex with Ginger -- and the other women -- but I can understand why a lot of people don't (the texting, the money, not telling his wife etc.)
And I think Cain was the victim of a smear attack, and that does make me angry, but to say that Cain bears no blame for the collapse of his campaign is emotional denial of reality to the max.
Cain is not going to endorse Perry. Hopefully, he doesn't endorse Romney because that will make me lose all respect for him.
But if he should endorse Michele, Santorum or Newt, hopefully he makes it a strong, issues-oriented, positive one, and does some campaigning for them as well.
I don't want to see him leave the scene.
The Tea Party should start targeting the media and do it with CLASS showing what real and focused grass-roots power still means in this country. The lawyers can't get the birth certificate or the records, but could a LEGAL crowd outside the NYT's do it? It may be time to go to the streets ... nothing else is stopping these people from making the decisions on who will run the country. I don't think it is the "Republican Establishment" ... they simply USE the news media just like the libs do. The News Media should be the target, period.
Meaning, that support would never return to him under any circumstances and he would be even more discredited than he is now, if that is possible.
So now, I'm compelled to cast my support to Newt, for all his failings. I hope he lasts until Iowa... My big concern is who amongst the non-discredited survivors is a worthy backup.
I will say this: We DO have a worthy field of candidates this election. If I can go through two somewhat palatable fallbacks all campaigning as conservatives, I'm way ahead of where I was in 2008.
Oh, and FUMR!!!
Which is why is was good to hear Palin say, the other day, that her endorsement wouldn't amount to a hill of beans.
“Cain bears no blame for the collapse of his campaign is emotional denial of reality to the max.”
Do you really believe that if he wasn’t doing well that they wouldn’t be attacking him?
You’ve made no bones about your support of Perry, to the extent of joining in on the lynching.
Do you really believe that he shouldn't have been prepared for some of the obvious modes of attack -- the sexual harassment settlements going public & the money to Ginger?
Do you really believe that he shouldn't have prepped his wife about some of what would be coming if he should find himself having success?
Do you really believe that his responses and those of his representatives were on focus and consistent?
