When given a choice, teachers in four out of eleven schools in Racine County, Wisconsin have decided to disband the unions they paid dues into for years.
According to the Journal Times, by a slim majority (of those voting), North Cape School District teachers voted to disband the union.
However, in Yorkville, the vote was unanimous. Out of the 29 teachers who voted, all 29 voted to disband.
Becky Seitz, the former union president, stated:
In the 30-some years we were part of the (American Federation of Teachers union), we never had to use their services. There were never any grievances that warranted that, Seitz said, explaining teachers found it unnecessary to keep paying monthly dues of about $50 when they werent using union services anyway. We really and Im going to be honest never really got much out of it. Weve always had a good relationship with our administrators and our board. [Emphasis added.]
Simply put, at $50 per month*, a 30-year teacher paid $18,000 for services that were never used.
It is likely that the dues were not always $50 per month. Regardless of the actual amount, however, once the freedom to choose was given, the teachers in Yorkville (and NCSD) chose to keep their $600 in their own pocketbooks. So, how is it that Scott Walker is the bad guy in this?
Now we see the reason for the national union assault on Wisconsin. This was their fear. Their slaves have become unshackled.
ALL UNION MEMBERS. JUST THINK WHAT THE WASTED DUES YOU PAY TO OVERWEIGHT (never miss a mean)THUGS COULD BUY FOR YOU FAMILY.
This is something Republicans should be pressing all the time: workers should be able to vote at least every two years on whether or not to stay unionized. Once people realize how much they pay for not much benefit, they’ll back out & stop giving the thugs the money.
Finally, coming unstuck from stupid. Wow, teachers are slow learners.
Interesting, now with $50 more per month in their wallets these teachers become eligible for merit pay as well.
Fer sur :-)
Those teachers are now to be respected.
Way to go!
Teacher pensions are held by the state. The “union” has nothing to do with it.
50$ a month! What a ripoff!
My “dues” are $83. It is a ripoff.
I suspected that may be the answer after I posted. Sorry.
And now it begins.
The truth is very dangerous for the government unions, they bosses make big bucks, the demonRATS get kick backs and the members just keep paying,
The only teachers that benefit are the slugs that most of their peers would rather be fired but are protected.
Some idiot where I work is trying to convince people to unionize. He keeps pushing the idea that union workers in the same job make 68% more, but I’ve never found any unionized business that matches this one. As far as I know, nobody’s fallen for his spiel yet, but he’s still a pain.
So basically he wants a raise with no extra work or productivity. Typical.
