A press release from Dudley Brown, Executive Director of the National Association for Gun Rights:
The fact is, Rick Santorum does have a long history of supporting gun control. In the 90s, he voted to support the Lautenberg Gun Ban, which stripped law-abiding gun owners of their Second Amendment rights for life, simply because they spanked their children or did nothing more than grab a spouses wrist.
He voted for a bill in 1999 disguised as an attempt to increase penalties on drug traffickers with guns
but it also included a provision to require federal background checks at gun shows. And then he voted with gun-controlling Democrats Dianne Fienstein and Frank Lautenberg to mandate locks on handguns in 2005.

Should be in breaking news.
Boy you liberals are so scared of Santorum! I love it!!!! Go Santorum! The ONLY moral Conservative running and will win the nomination. Bachmann is awesome too.
If they can convince any moderates Santorum is liberal for the general election, that would be quite the feat. However it is total bs.
Per www.ontheissues.org:
Voted YES on prohibiting lawsuits against gun manufacturers. (Jul 2005)
Voted NO on banning lawsuits against gun manufacturers for gun violence. (Mar 2004)
Voted NO on background checks at gun shows. (May 1999)
Voted YES on more penalties for gun & drug violations. (May 1999)
Voted YES on loosening license & background checks at gun shows. (May 1999)
Voted YES on maintaining current law: guns sold without trigger locks. (Jul 1998)
Nice try,Paulbot.
Not without his share of faults, but no other candidate reaches this far to the conservative side.
Oh brother. I guess Newt must really be a big liberal then. He is for abortion for sure since he endorsed scuzzynova. Just because he endorsed Arlen does not mean he believes in every idea that Arlen has. That is absurd.
Dudley WhatsHIsName, says that Santorum is weak on gun rights. Because of that one issue, gun nuts will hate the guy. How about the Republican, Conservative and Independent crowd just publicly show some unified support for one of them and not give the MSM and their liberal counterparts more ammunition, no pun intended, to discredit and further divide folks.
So, now folks may be saying, “I would vote for him, but he doesn’t want me to have that Dillon Mini gun, so I guess I’ll just sit this one out to make a statement and wait until the next election. Maybe we’ll get someone more supportive then”.
Say Santorum has shown a weak record toward gun rights. Is his record weaker than the current office holder?
What I want to know is: Can he take office and at least try to do what needs to be done to make this country what it once was? That is all.
Issues like gun control are decided upon by members of Congress. If he’s the Conservative/Republican that he’s saying he is, then he’ll prove it. Maybe by allowing the States to set their own rules.
I think no matter who he supported, I doubt he’s going to be the first signature on any UN Smalll Arms Treaty or push to get rid of the 2nd Amendment.
Every local {Western PA} sportman's hunting and/or shooting club have been supporters of Santorum.
I don't know about every law or rider that he voted for, but Rick Santorum as President will not try to get rid of the 2ND Amendment or our rights as gun owners.
I own dozens of guns {errr, used to before the great canoe splash}, and I'm not worried about Santorum grabbing our guns, ain't happening.
Thank you for your common sense comment.
