This is an obvious attempt to blunt Newt’s surge. They must see him picking up plenty of Santorum voters. I guess they believe if people think Santorum can win, voters will stay with him and not switch to Newt.

The Romney contingent must really be desperate now. They know if Newt has a large surge here or if Santorum drops out, Florida may become a lost cause for Mitt. If Mitt loses Florida to Newt, he will be in deep trouble.

I agree there will be a coordinated effort to push Santorum by the Romney loving media types, but I don’t think Morris is part of that.

I think since he started spending all of his time in either DC or New York, he totally lost his feel for the electorate, which is what helped him advise Clinton. He’s gone tone deaf.

His anti Obama Care ads were awful, and not in tuned with the real reasons folks were against it.

I see where Dick’s coming from. Aside from Newt’s opening question, I do think Santorum won the rest of the debate. Santorum has been remarkably inconsistent, and was pretty lousy in Monday’s debate, but I think Thursday was his best debate. He landed a whole lot of blows on both Mitt and Newt and they both kind of had to dodge with their answers. Of course he didn’t win it nearly as decisively as Newt won Monday’s debate. In the post-debate interview, my read on Newt’s demeanor was that he was slightly disappointed he didn’t reproduce the same knockout performance from Monday.

Santorum’s post-Iowa speech on caucus night was his next best moment of the campaign. I also think he probably won the Huckabee forum last Saturday. Before that he’s had scattered isolated questions in the debates where he also did very well, but a lot of inconsistency in both his presentation and content.

Still, I don’t think this performance from Santorum will be enough to gain him much in SC. Newt and to a lesser extent Mitt dominated the conversation this week and it’s not like Newt’s Monday performance will be forgotten.

I do think Santorum’s looking better and better as a V.P. pick for Newt, although I’ve been saying he would be the best pick for a month or two now. He can shore up support from social conservatives and spend a lot of time campaigning strongly in the rust belt industrial states. I also like the idea of a President and V.P. who actually have a lot in common, not these awkward pairings of conservatives and moderates like Reagan/Bush and McCain/Palin.

I am worried about the path to Super Tuesday for Newt. These states seem mostly like blue states, which not being an expert, I would assume would be more favorable to Mitt just like New Hampshire was, but could be wrong. Newt’s best state in this list, Missouri, is that non-binding primary which Newt didn’t get on the ballot for.

February 4, 2012
Nevada (caucus)

February 4–11, 2012
Maine (caucus)

February 7, 2012
Colorado (caucus)
Minnesota (caucus)
Missouri (primary)

February 28, 2012
Arizona (primary)
Michigan (primary)

March 3, 2012
Washington (caucus)

Dick thought Santorum scored well enough to really dig into Newts vote and maybe even beat him. I totally disagree. Yes, I know Santorum got some digs in, but those don’t necessarily help you. I don’t think they helped him.

Sometimes, if you are torn between two candidates, the one who does the attack ticks you off and you end up siding the one who was attacked. And the rules in these things is that you attack, and then the person responds. Well, Santorum kept butting in and wanting a third bite at the apple and it was all so unseemly.

We’ll see. If he gets around 16%, he did ok. Much above that, and he had a good debate. Much below that, and his debate was a loser.

I think he once said that water was wet, but only after studying the subject for two weeks and changing his mind four times.

My prediction from sources in South Carolina: Newt wins by 8%. Do I win anything if I'm right and Dickie is wrong?

8%. LOL!

As I stated, 8% was conservative. It was based on the assumption that a lot of women would lie to pollsters and/or their husbands and tell them they were voting for Gingrich, then vote for someone else. Obviously, the results show this number was over estimated.

But my sourced did say it wouldn't even be close and they were right.

I was watching Fox Friday night when Dick Morris said these stupid things on O’Reilly’s show. In his fevered mind, Santorum won the debate decisively, Romney was definitely going to win SC, and Santorum was probably going to take second place.

These Fox pundits have outlived whatever usefulness they may once have had. I’m sick to death of seeing Morris, Rove, Krauthammer and the rest on every single Fox show every day, spinning the same tired spin and looking like even they don’t believe or care what they’re saying anymore.

I had a strange experience tonight. After watching a couple hours of Fox’s post-election coverage, I was about ready to blow my TV up, the spin was so insane. I switched over to CNN just to see what they were doing, expecting it to be even worse. What a shock. Every single one of their talking heads sounded perfectly sane compared to what I’d been listening to on Fox. What a wake-up call.

I wasn’t ragging you. It was just a joyous exclamation.
I also thought that anything above 3 or 4% would be a good night for Newt.
Morris, as usual, was more wrong than anybody!

Another reminder that Morris, entertaining as he is, is almost always wrong!

No offense taken. I just think it is funny how I, with limited resources on the ground in South Carolina, can call things as close as I can whereas Dick Morris, with his professional experience can miss by a mile.

What I didn't factor in is just how much Newt's media smackdown benefited him. Even though I much prefer Rick Santorum, I've got to give him credit for his brilliant smackdown of the enemedia.

I hope every other GOP candidate sees it and seeks to emulate it. Playing nice with these sonzabitches hasn't worked. Maybe having everyone consistently exposing them for who they really are will help the Sheeple understand it sooner rather than later. Continuing to pretend that they are the unbiased arbitrators of the political process and actual journalists certainly hasn't worked and will never work.
