Florida Republican Rep. Allen West may be the Republican candidate for vice president in 2012.

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich said at a Republican Palm Beach County fundraiser that if he won the Republican presidential nomination, he would strongly consider a Floridian as his running mate.

“Allen West would certainly be someone you’d look at,” Gingrich told NBC affiliate WPTV.

West responded, “We don’t know what the future holds, but I’m always willing to serve my country.”

“I have to pray about it and I have to clear it with my wife and two daughters,” he added. “I never thought that seven years ago when I retired here I’d be a United States Congressman.” [ For complete coverage of politics and policy, go to Yahoo! Politics ]

Elected in the November midterm election, West is one of two Republican African-Americans serving in Congress. He has rapidly emerged as a national conservative star.

"Takes the race card out of NBC News’ teleprompters for the election as well...we have had our first half black President...why not our first 100% BLACK Vice President?"

Excellent point. I actually prefer West over Cain to speak to the "average" black voter.

Even if he’s down in the polls at the moment, a sitting governor brings lots of help in a state in terms of organization on the ground and just the feeling that he’s “one of us”.

Wasn’t Kasich a room-mate or bosom buddy with Gary Condit? That dog won’t hunt!

PLEASE correct me if I’m wrong.

An excellent ‘dream team’ although one that would unlikely be deprived of its WTF moments.

Gingrich/West would truly be unstoppable.

He’d bring SO much to the ticket — youth, stability, Tea Party influence, military influence (an actual VP who has recently served in the military — how LONG has it been since we’ve had this?). He’s served and has some experience in Congress ..but not too much.

Just look at them together ...how terrifying for the Democrats. Would also “newtralize” everyone asserting this BS that Newt is somehow a racist.

It would be difficult not to constantly watch and listen to the both of them speak as it would be SO enjoyable!

Plus he now has exectutive experience and would help with Ohio. Obama must win Ohio to be reelected.

Kasich's popularity is under 40% last time I checked - he won't help with Ohio, unless Ohioans look at it as a way to get rid of him.

Sad too, since I like Kasich.
