[history]

There have been a number of times in my life when I've realized that my instinct was contrary to my interests.
My personal instinct is almost always the full frontal attack. Charge in, guns blazing and do my level best to decimate the enemy. Yell, scream, insult, attack, offend, ZOT myself in the foot.

The GOP tried your way in 2008 and it did NOT work.
A VP candidate with balls (Palin) can't win it for a ball-less Presidential candidate (McCain).

After watching their twin implosions in SC, no one with an ounce of sense can think Romney or Stantroum are viable general election candidates. Both of them would be dead meat facing the 0bama political/media machine.
Newt is not a good shot, he just happens to be our best shot at taking out the 0 regime propaganda machine. I would rather the political Right at leave have a shot at winning this year.

I have always thought of Romney as a good VP/Chief Operating Officer. With a crystal clear mission statement, he seems to be able to deliver good managerial results.
To: tcostell
It does not matter who you stick behind Romney...your base will bolt and you lose and maybe create a real 3rd party that destroys the republicans.
The liberals in the party are playing a very stupid game with their voters this year...a year in which their voters have had more than enough with rinos playing this game. The conservative base is done...period. No more placating them with a conservative stuck on the tail of the ticket to make the rino worth holding their nose to vote for.
You can only get away with that so many times and even that has not worked for the party before a new path where conservatives are in control is taken.
The "Stupid Party" is just about to stupid themselves out of power for good if they do not get a clue about the mood of their voters QUICK!

Look at their accomplishments. Newt allied himself with Ronald Reagan to build the Reagan Coalition, the Religious Right, and the Republican majority (together the Reagan Revolution) which directly led the downfall of the Soviet Union, the Contract with America, government reforms, less government, tax cuts, a balanced budget, and the great, long-standing Reagan economy.
Romney, on the other hand, vehemently denied Ronald Reagan and aligned himself with Ted Kennedy and the left. Romney accomplished installing liberal big government programs, defended and promoted Roe v Wade and legalized abortion as settled law, advocated and implemented RomneyCare with its liberty killing government mandates against formerly free citizens and its taxpayer funded or subsidized and mandated abortion procedures. He ran and governed to the left of Ted Kennedy on the gay agenda resulting in gay marriage in Massachusetts. He appointed liberal judges and liberal appointees throughout his government. Under his leadership conservatism and the Republican party was all but destroyed in Massachusetts.
Romney is one evil liberal progressive. No way in hell will MittBots be allowed to support this abortionist, big government, socialist scumbag on FR!
Guess my message isnt clear enough. I have to keep repeating it and zotting would be MittBots.

“Newt Gingrich, who sure as the sunrise, is going to self destruct.”
Unfortunately, that’s a real possibility and that’s what scares me about Newt.
Newt has shot himself in the foot before and is his own worst enemy. The msm is lying in wait for anything they can jump on.
If Newt is the nominee, I’ll be holding my breath and hoping that he can keep his cool until election day.

Good sir, you think too highly of yourself. You, like Mitt Romney in this morning's interview with Chris Wallace, assume too much when you speak for those who voted for Newt Gingrich.
In your arrogance, you automatically assume that people voted for Newt, not out of conviction, but out of pique at how conservatives have been treated by the press and that this will not carry over to the general public.
Mitt was similarly dismissive of the South Carolina electorate claiming that "In other states the people will be voting for who they think will make the best President, not over who shares their religion."
Did it ever occur to you that Newt won, because the voters believed in him and his message? Did it never occur to you that people in the South are capable of rational thought? Did it never occur to you that the people of South Carolina love their nation and want what's best for it? Are you so arrogant that you believe that voters in South Carolina didn't vote as they voted based on the records and the agenda of the candidates who were seeking their support?
Man, you Romney bots will stop at nothing to get your boy nominated--even to the extent of insulting the intelligence and rationality of those who vote against him.
You want to support the Massachusetts Moderate, used car salesman Mitt, go right ahead, but keep your New Jersey Yankee condescension to yourself; we don't need it. We "poor ignorant Southerners" can manage without your assistance, thank-you very much.

If every voter in America made up their minds in the same way that an arch conservative does (I mean that as a compliment - I’d certainly take it as one if someone said it about me) then I think I’d probably agree with you. But I don’t think that’s the case. I think the broader right wing insurrection is much further away than you believe it to be.
I don’t prefer Romney because he’s to the left of Gingrich. The further to the right our candidate is the better, as far as I’m concerned. I prefer Romney to Gingrich because I don’t think Gingrich can win. I think he’ll self destruct. He’s done it many times before.
I wouldn’t call myself a Romney fan either (although you can’t apparently have a practical discussion of the issue without some idiot around here doing so). He by no means is my first choice. But I’m not getting my first choice. And I think Romney stands a better chance of winning than Gingrich.
I may be wrong of course. But it’s an opinion honestly offered.

Romney’s record of judicial appointments alone is enough to convince me I can’t trust him to maintain or improve the balance on SCOTUS. Throwing in his atrocius record on RKBA and other important issues makes me very sure that I don’t want him in the White House.

Is it really too controversial an issue on FR to say that you support one guy running for the Republican nomination over another? Has the place degraded that badly? Can you really see no merit whatsoever in the point I was trying to make?
This was never a particularly thoughtful forum, but I’m surprised that some believe even as benign a topic as this is too incendiary for reasonable discussion.
