Many years ago, in a solidly Democrat office, a coworker quoted the above phrase from the righteous reverend. In response, I said that if Jackson had stayed out of his mistresses' bushes, he wouldn't have little bastards running around.
Even I was surprised by the indignation that resulted.
I will vote third party if the Republican Party takes the choice of nomimee away from the voters.
One third of the Republicans now support Newt. Is the party ready to lose their votes to stop Newt from being President?
It’s interesting to note that the article was written by Artur Davis - a former four-term Democrat from Alabama. Davis has since gone independent, and embraced *some* conservative positions, but he’s still not the guy I would be looking to first for GOP candidate advice.
As for Jeb Bush as a candidate...no. Were there not two previous Presidents from that family, I could live with Jeb as nominee. He’d wouldn’t be the ideal candidate, but I think he’d be far better than Romney in every way, at least. As we have had two Bush’s in office, though, I say no. We have enough political dynasties at the state and Congressional level, we don’t need that in the White House, too. It sets a dangerous precedent, I believe.
So, for me, it is still Newt at this point, warts and all. I don’t discount the “gamble” factor in backing Gingrich, but IMHO he’s the best option available in 2012.
I remember a certain non-candidate saying this would be a non-typical election cycle.
I’ts not there yet by a long shot but I’m prepared to write her in or go 3rd party, push come to shove...
Everything from National Review should come with a BARF alert.....Everything.
To hell with drafting Jeb, draft Sarah Palin.
Stop it. Now. You have been warned, GOP.
Far as Newt is concerned, agreed. But when it comes to Jeb, not merely no but HELL, NO!
ditto
If *this* is the Republican Party, we don’t want it saved, Mr. Davis person.
The Party is doing fine just now, if representative government means anything. We the People who are Republicans are simply seeking our nominee, who was willing to run for the nomination on a shoe string. What’s the problem?

Mitch Daniels and now Bush. How does one get to be nominee without being on ballot and running? Palin needs to jump in then.
This is how Obama gets re-elected. By silly tactics of trying to draft someone who doesn’t want the job.

Heck, why don’t we *all* jump in? No one you name knows the issues any better than any FReeper, and certainly the ones you named are no more finished, skilled or refined in political prose and opinion than most any FReeper. Very intellegent people who have put in far more years in business, and involvement in levels of state and local politics, professions, (and are even better educated) than the ones you named. What do you think?
I know, it always does take an oversized ego and a LOT of arrogance to look at ordinary in the mirror, and dare to run on it. LOL!
Stay out the Bushes
Well, now’s a fine time to figure out that Romney just can’t seal the deal.
I do see worrisome similarities between this primary season and the 1972 Dem debacle.
