Preppers’ Ping!
OK guys back to business.
It just turns out that my preps for tornados work pretty well for just about any kind of disaster, including mutant biker zombies.

No shit?
“OK guys back to business.
No shit? “
LOL.
Glad to hear it, Kart.
Don't plan to watch it.
I hope so, but JRandomFreeper tirade about the term Doomsday has me a bit worried! ;-)
Buying on sale, and rotating a 3 month store of staples is economically smart, not to mention a great backup in case of a disaster.
Tobias even mentioned the fabulously wealthy founder of Revlon (Charles Revson?) buying his mouthwash by the case so he'd always have minty fresh breath.
Still waiting on a bug-out-bag prep thread.

The last one was OK. I think the rating they give at the end of each Prepper’s segment was far from fair though. Like I said tivo it and zap through the bad parts.
I prep for Obama and the government. Correction, I’m trying to as there’s no 100% or even 10% safe guard against them.
Best laugh I’ve had all day!
I'm in trouble. I've only been prepping for biker zombies. I don't have anything for if they're mutants too.
Just watched several of the videos online and I think it will be just the opposite. Very informative.
I am getting to it, but lately I’ve been knee deep in s.... Well let’s just not go there OK? ;-)
Good to hear!
Saw previews being advertised but I don’t get the Nat Geo channel. Maybe I can come here and see what FReepers have to say about it.
I’m prepping for doomsday if Obama wins a 2nd term. Withdrew all my money from stocks already, had it converted to cash which I stored in my underground bunker, which is buried 50 feet underground and reinforced with 5 feet of concrete and steel. I have it loaded with 4 years of food and water. It is IRS resistant, EPA resistant and all around general government intervention resistant simply because they do not know it exists. If the Obama ghouls discover it and try to break it up and divide it so everyone gets a fair share, it will then self destruct in 30 seconds.
Bug out bag?
Simple.
Have a pack ready to go on a 3 day backpacking trip at a moment’s notice. Tailor to geography, region, season, and hostility.
Just double down on ammo. It's not like it's going to get any cheaper.
Back in the '90s, I bought enough .22 plinking ammo to last the rest of my life, and I'm glad I did. I paid less than 1/3 of what they want for it today.
/johnny
OK who leaked the plans for my bunker to you?
That's my solution to lots of problems.
/johnny
How often do you inventory it, check flashlight batteries, expiration dates on meds?
I inventory mine on the 1st of every month.
But I think the topic deserves a thread of it's own, so we can hear what people put in theirs, and how they manage it.
/johnny
So from your sarcasm I take it you think ‘prepping’ is a waste of time. good for you
history proves you wrong but each to their own
No serious “Prepper” would allow their preparations to be known by the whole world.

Given taxation, in effect money isn't free. It costs two dollars to buy one dollar. |
Have you ever really tested your food? I did and was very surprised at how fast it disappears.
Just set mythtv to record this. The first episode is named "Bullets, lots of Bullets".
There might be times when bug out is the only option and you have no other choice.
But in general, I tend to think bug out is a bad choice.
You and 3 million other people will be out there on the roads, probably not moving very fast if at all, each and every one in bug-out zombie mode.
EGGSactly Batman.
Myself my only "preparing" is the Tater Salad System.
1. Buy a Helmet.
2. Put on the Damn Helmet.
I’m not a DOOMSDAY preppar. I do take prudent preparations for a possible breakdown of societal institutions. Do you want to put your family’s existance totally in the hands of the Government? Especially this Government? If there was a breakdown the low life in the cities would be looking to take what the Government could no longer provide to them...
If there is really a preppers’ ping, please add me to it! Thanks!
But if any structure on the property is sound, I'll shelter in place.
Oh, btw, roads and shelters are for targets. I can be camped in the woods less than 10 minutes of walking from my place.
It helps to have grown up in the area and know every nook and cranny of it. ;)

This alone suggests to me that "Doomsday Preppers" is going to be off-base (and probably deliberately so).

At Last, our 5 seconds of fame!
Tell me about it. I just bought some more .22 ammo. I have the same box of 525 bullets I bought 5 years ago, and it was $10.00 cheaper. I got 10,000 rounds plus or minus 1,000. Looking to stock up to 25,000. I have most of my weapons at .22 and it makes it easier to buy ammo since they all take the same.
Too bad about the others I lost in that tragic boat mishap.
More ammo!
There are a gazillion threads about BOBs all over the web.
I’ve followed the subject close for a long time. While a thrilling inspiration to one’s imagination, upshot is it’s packing for a 3 day self sufficient hike - and the realization that it’s for either getting home or out of a limited area, because outside those goals you’re doing the wrong thing.
But in general, I tend to think bug out is a bad choice.
Good thinking. I’m one of those folks who are well prepared and live out in the country. I’m well prepared to feed me and mine and protect what I have from the mobs of unprepared who will be slithering out of the cities.
If you don’t prepare you have a problem but none of the people who live where you intend to go will be willing to share what they have. They will share hot led but that is about all.
Local law enforcement in those areas are going to keep the mob on the highways and send them on down the road.
All of those unprepared who are fleeing the socialized beehive cities are soon going to find that they are entitled to nothing and will get nothing from those who have worked and planned for survival.
Keep going, nothing here for you.
Lock and load.
There are so many ways things could go horribly wrong that eventually the preppers will be right. It will be good that someone might survive when the rest of us fall. May they fly the flag when we are gone.
The potential for an economic reset of our US dollar currency is the most likely SHTF scenario for the US because this has happened to other nations including world powers like the Soviet Union when its currency/economy imploded and reset. The huge US debt has to be paid and each year/decade goes by our ability to pay it with austerity and taxes is getting less likely politically and financially. That means the US gov has only one recourse, inflate our way out of debt thru money printing and hoping not to ignite hyperinflation or lose world reserve currency status rapidly. BOTTOM LINE - middle class will slowly lose their buying power. Wealth preservation is the main objective for all and protecting ones accounts in case an MF Global type bankruptcy which allows banks to seize people’s accounts, and 401k before they declare bankruptcy and place customers at the end of the line with other creditors. What happen with MF Global is frightening. Remember when the gov or bank is broke, all promises are broken. Worst the upper 1 percent will get together to make sure their accounts and claims are secured first by looting the customers (99 percent) and then fashion a bankruptcy that is legal for them to screw the customers. The bank CEO will claim he does not know where the missing customer money went and demand gov (ala taxpayers 99 percent) to bail them out or else. This type of SHTF scenario is more likely then all the other 2012 type doomsday claims.
If every Japanese citizen took their savings and brought precious metals in lieu of Japanese T bonds and zero interest savings accounts, many of them will be able to retire well off twenty years later as they turn their gold back for more Yens.
Just a thought but there is something my dad used to tell me. I’m ranch raised in a culture where you are your own plumber, mechanic, carpenter, welder, vet, and security. You have to learn to do it all to financially survive.
He used to tell all of us that, “Folks who count on luck rarely have any.” What he was telling us was that we should plan and prepare and depend on our knowledge and ability. Don’t depend on luck because you are not prepared for a situation because it will never work.
“Doomsday Preppers” is going to be off-base (and probably deliberately so).”

No doubt. I just saw the “Bullets, lots of bullets” sound clip commercial and laughed. Bet the farm that we’ll be painted as big-time kooks.
Are some preparations in order? Perhaps. Some very faithful Christians may even say its a must. But in the end, what I believe with everything in my heart is that there is no amount of physical preparation that will bring you salvation. It may delay some suffering for a bit, but it will never be enough. So whether you stock up for an ice age or you stock up your treasures in heaven, the only REAL solution is faith in Jesus Christ.
You are entitled to your faith and beliefs. Salvation and survival are two totally different things. You are fully entitled to raise your arms and heart to the heaves and ask for help in surviving. I will pray for the strength, vision, guts to help me and mine survive. There are a lot of Christians through out history who honestly believed that faith was all they needed to survive. They died right beside the non believers.
Did you know that if a mutant biker zombie is left in the wilds of the forest, he will grow long mangy hair all over his body and develop an ape-like face? Yes, I talking about...sasquach.
