New Poll Finds The More People Learn About Romney, The More They Dislike Him
Talking Points Memo ^

Posted on 02/06/2012 2:12:12 PM PST by cotton1706

By a more than two to one margin, Americans say that the more they learn about Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney, the more they dislike him, per a new Washington Post / ABC poll:

Overall, 55 percent of those who are closely following the campaign say they disapprove of what the GOP candidates have been saying. By better than 2 to 1, Americans say the more they learn about Romney, the less they like him. Even among Republicans, as many offer negative as positive assessments of him on this question. Judgments about former House speaker Newt Gingrich, who denounced Romney on Saturday night in Nevada, are about 3 to 1 negative.

You can spray gold paint on a turd, and it will still be a turd. That’s what people find when they look past Romney’s glitter.

Let me add this article:

The only way Newt will lose to the Kenyan Turd is IF the "Establishment Republicans" REFUSE to support the Republican Nominee.
Now the "Republican Establishment's" hatred for conservatives is well known.
Jon Bershad wrote about Rush's analysis of their PANIC.

How many times has the "Republican Establishment" treated us to one lecture after the other on the need for “compromise” and “patience.”?
After we elect and RE-elect the "Republican Establishment", they conduct themselves with none of the confidence and enthusiasm with which they expressed themselves on the campaign trail.
It may be worth it for the GOP to lose some elections - if it means that conservatives—and the country—will ultimately win.

If we didn’t know it before, WE ... the Tea Partiers, now knows that accepting short-term loss in exchange for long-term gain is the essence of compromise, the essence of politics.

Ironically, we can thank the "Republican Establishment" for impressing this so indelibly upon us!!!
I'm fresh out of "patience", and I'm not in the mood for "compromise".
"COMPROMISE" to me is a dirty word.
Let the RINO's compromise their values, with the conservatives, for a change.

My dislike for the Democratic Party is second to none.
But my ... LOATHING ... for the "Establishment Republicans" ... is even stronger!
The "Establishment Republicans" can go to hell!

Points well taken. If we don’t vet him, Obama & Axelrod will destroy him if he gets the nomination, and it will be too late.

The Mormon thing is the X Factor that might make Mitt unelectable. People’s personal religious beliefs are usually of no interest to most people, but having a President who swears a blood oath to the Mormon Church raises different questions, questions of allegiance.
I started out knowing little about Mormonism, and started researching. They are not just another Christian denomination- they really aren’t Christians at all- they believe that God is a flesh and blood human being, that there are many gods, and that Mormons can become gods.
Everything I’m learning about the Mormon Church is making me very wary of Romney as a candidate. The more people find out about it, they will never vote for him.
One of the most disturbing is the Mormon practice of culling genealogy websites (the Mormons own all the major geneaology sites like ancestry.com, rootsweb.com etc which exist solely for that purpose) for names & family data, then baptizing
them by proxy. 95% of the activity inside the Mormon temples is baptizing the dead.
This is the document brokered by Senator Orrin Hatch  between leaders of the UJA and the Mormon Church in which the Mormons agree to stop the despicable practice of baptizing holocaust victims by proxy. They signed it, but the practice continues.

http://www.avotaynu.com/mormons/MormonAgreement.pdf

Romney admits that he participated in such rituals, but “not recently”.

I would just ask you all to do some research on Mormonism, and check out the voting results in the SC primary. In areas with large numbers of evangelicals, Romney lost 80% of the vote.

I havent liked Willard since that 2007 debate when he boasted that he was lifelong pro-abortion..

and that he was proud of his mother Lenore Romney because she had run on a pro-abortion platformn for US Senate in 1970...

1970... back when abortion was ILLEGAL...

The REAL polls are in the primaries and in November. So far, the results belie the headline.

Mitt's 13000 plus negaive ads in FL were full of lies and smears. Mitt has to LIE to fool the people into voting for him. If more people knew the truth about Mitt he would be last in the delegate count.

The GOP-e, FOX and the rest of the MSM know that they have to help Mitt wrap it up soon or it's all over for Mitt.

Mitt knows he is lying when he speaks about being Conservative. You have to give Obama credit on one thing: Obama would never lie and pretend to run as a Conservative.

The clock is ticking for Mitt. I fully expect him to crack and make a fatal mistake before the end of March.

I was just looking at NRO. They've been big Romney boosters.

But today's lead article is titled Why Not Santorum?. And today's poll question asks, Who is the best alternative to Romney? and offers a choice between Gingrich and Santorum (Santorum's up 80 to 20) with no third option to stick with Mittens.

There are also several of hard-hitting pieces further down the page: Deroy Murdock's Newt’s Plan, Mitt’s Morass on the superiority of Newt's tax reform plan, Andrew C. McCarthy's See Mitt Pander on Mitt's inability to get conservatism, and Larry Kudlow's Message to Mitt: A rising tide lifts all boats on the value of supply-side philosophy. Then there's Jonah Goldberg's The Case for Romney: He'll owe us. Quite the subtitle, Jonah!

Might the GOP-E be wobbly on Romney?

Everyone knows TPM (Talking Points Memo) is a left-wing blog, and here they’re reporting on a MSM poll from two liberal news organizations, ABC News and the Washington Post, not of likely voters, but of general population adults, and lacking any internals for party ID (source: http://bit.ly/xPnG6K). And you’re all swallowing it whole as if you were regulars at Democratic Underground.

This is no surprise at all. I’ve mentioned this Weekly Standard article often. The author analyzed Romney’s campaigns and described the exact same thing happening in all of them. This is just one of many reasons many of us have been opposing his candidacy from the beginning.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/2818702/posts

More evidence of voters’ coolness toward Romney came in a recent Public Policy study, which took snapshots from 13 states both early and late in 2011. In all 13 states, he became less popular as the year progressed. Even more telling were Romney’s negatives—which increased in tandem with his name recognition. As Romney began campaigning more actively, voters became less favorably disposed toward him.

His religion. Sarah has said we need to vet. IMO there are questions about his faith that need to be talked about now. The American people should/will be asking questions.

Has there been any investigation of where Romney goes to church and what types of statements his pastor makes? I'm sure the Democrats will try to pull a Reverend Wright on him so we ought to do it first.

“Tell the RNC there is no way in HELL you will vote for Romney. Lets tie up their phone lines.
Office of the Chairman

Phone: 202-863-8700

Fax: 202-863-8820

Faxing will get their attention as they will have to pick up each one rather than just give you the “Yada Yada over the phone”.”

The real eye opener for the NRO crowd was Mittens automatic minimum wage increases. This little diddy perked a lot of ears up and NOT in a good way.

I haven’t read the articles, but I imagine some of Romney’s support has been from people who are social liberals but fiscal conservatives. Even people like me who are opposed to Romney have been a little surprised at how much he’s revealed himself to be a fiscal liberal on different issues lately that haven’t come up before. Of course it should have been obvious from Romneycare, his hundreds of millions in tax/fee hikes in Taxachusetts, his declining to support John Kasich’s anti-union vote, his support for letting taxes be higher on those making over $200K, etc. But Romney’s new comments about the safety net and the minimum wage might even be giving Romney’s fiscal conservative backers pause at this point. The money-worshiping wing of the Republican party just assume anyone wealthy is a fiscal conservative, I guess. But that defies reality, where we know wealthy elites backed Obama heavily and we have wealthy liberal politicians like John Corzine who are very similar to Romney. I suppose these pundits still think they can “hold his feet to the fire” and “drag” Romney to the right. I say a leopard can’t change his spots.

Tricia Erickson’s book “Can Mitt Romney Serve Two Masters?”, subtitle: Why An Indoctrinated Mormon Must Never Be Elected President of the United States) gives great insight.

Tricia, whose father was a Mormon Bishop (same rank as Romney), was brought up in Mormonism and exposed to many of the more secretive aspects of the Mormon Church.

This book gives Bishop Romney a thorough political vetting.

Wonder how many really know the truth about the House Ethics situation

Unfortunately they are going to hear it from the FOX News gang .

An email to Hannity/Greta or someone at CNN might be interested in starting the dialogue with We the People.

You might suggest that they interview Tricia Ericson and ask her questions about the book.....They could always give Romney equal time to answer questions about his religios background.....Seems fair and balanced to me.

Let me see if I understand you correctly. Every other Washington Post poll you view with extreme skepticism, but this one you buy lock, stock and barrel. What can I deduce from that?
