I carry a lock pick set in my plumbing truck. Every once in a while it comes in very handy. My warning to you is this, if you thought plumbing requires a great deal of patience, triple it and try picking a lock.

Just as not everyone with a gun is a criminal, everyone with an interest in learning how to pick a lock is not a burglar.

I didn’t know that there were associations for people like me; that want ways to defeat locks and learn tactical emergency skills. This is great information!!

BTW - the bad guys already know how to do this, or they simply use a sledge hammer.

I had the master key for my Vespa LX150 (on consignment) stolen at a motorcycle dealer. No key to remove the cylinder from the ignition lock body. A local locksmith (best in town) failed to open it. That annoyed me. I've been picking locks since junior high school. I did the job in 5 minutes with two paper clips. The guy in the video is a slowpoke. That Vespa lock is a double sided wafer design too.

Pretty cool. On reading the headline I doubted the paper clips would be strong enough but by using the larger size he seems to have addressed that concern. I have a professional set of lock picks I bought as part of my urban survival kit. The rake and a torsion tool will probably get you into more low end pin tumbler locks than any other combination. With a good rake and torsion tool I can get into most consumer grade pin tumbler locks in around 10 seconds. Again, I am learning this as a survival skill with no intention doing anything illegal.

Good point. I researched the law in FL before getting my picks. In FL possession of them is alright. Possession of them with “intent” makes them burglary tools. The rub of course is determining intent is up to the officer detaining you. Many cops will consider possession as de facto evidence of intent to commit burglary. If it was a simple traffic stop you may beat it in court but you will have legal fees and whatever happens to you in jail to contend with. You are also right that in some states simple possession is illegal unless you are a registered locksmith of other occupation that requires them. Research laws applicable to you before making these or ordering professional ones.

Flip through a gun magazine and practically every weapon and product is touted as “Tactical”. Duh, every weapon could be used in a combat situation, but most won’t be. Hey Joe!
