Romney backers aren't banned, just outspoken Romney backers. Same deal with McCain backers in 2008. There were a few of them during the primary season, they just laid low and didn't talk about it. Anyone on FR who supports Romney doesn't publicize it now.
I think I smell hypocrisy from those critizing Santorum over the Romney endorsement. "Do as we say, not as we did"
If any of the freepers who are now bashing Santorum were members of FR in 2008 can prove me wrong, go ahead. Let's see those threads where they parted ways with Santorum and endorsed McCain, Huckabee, or Paul.
You are absolutely right, most FReepers backed Romney in 2008, particularly after FDT dropped out. And at the beginning of primary season the FReepers getting suspended or banned were almost exclusively those who supported the liberal RINO Rudy Giuliani; later on, it was mostly FReepers who attacked Romney who were suspended, since Romney was campaigning as a conservative and had fooled so many FReepers into believing that he was the Reagan Republican in the race. I, for one, never drank the Romney Kool-Aid, and after FDT dropped out I held my nose and supported McCain as the least bad alternative remaining, since I didn’t believe in Romney’s supposed conversion to conservatism (in prior cycles I similarly was suspicious of Steve Forbes and his sudden, convenient conversion), and thought that Huckabee was too liberal on economic issues and too ignorant on foreign affairs. But I was definitely in the minority among FReepers at the time. Of course, while I questioned FReepers decision to support Romney after FDT dropped out, I never questioned their devotion to conservatism, and feel the same way about Rick Santorum and the countless conservative leaders who similarly endorsed Romney (over McCain and Huckabee) in 2008.
