How stupid do rich people have to be?
The Orange County Register blog Orange Punch ^ | 2-23-2012 | Mark Landsbaum

Let’s stipulate a few things. First, let’s say you’re rich. Second, let’s say you’re not stupid, which is likely. It’s difficult for stupid people to become rich.

Now let’s stipulate that fairness-obsessed politicians want you to pay your, ahem, fair share in taxes. So, they double your tax rate – because you’re rich and can afford to pay more, of course.

What do you do? Do you act stupidly? ...

You pay the higher taxes and stop acting and thinking like a greedy pig.

Are you saying that people that want to pay less taxes are greedy pigs?

You behave in a way that gives you competitive advantage. You demand higher taxes for all because you know you can evade them while others cannot. That’s what Buffet is doing.

He said “difficult,” not “impossible.”

Ah... yes, sure.

But, let’s face it - all this “tax the rich” crap is most assuredly NOT about “balancing the budget” or “enhancing revenues” or ANYTHING like that.

What it’s about, in simplest terms, is Obama playing to society’s most ignorant masses - which is to say, his voter base - in order to act the demagogue and satisfy their quest for revenge and ameliorate their jealousy over the fact that they’re either too stupid or too incompetent to go out and make their own pile.

In other words, it’s Lenin appealing to the proles all over again.

And it’s working marvelously well, thank you.

If you’re not rich you can always try to get rich by having multiple user accounts on FreeRepublic to pimp stuff you wrote yourself. (After demanding “excerpt only” protection for your work.....)

Wealth, hard work and intelligence are no longer as closely correlated in this country as the author thinks. All thanks to socialist policies and corruption.

The majority of very wealthy people I know got that way from inheriting wealth. Most are far from intelligent and hardworking. They pay people to manage their wealth, pay lawyers to watch their back and make income just by signing paperwork. Only one actually gets deeply involved and understands the workings in the company his father started.

Several others are very wealthy from personal and family connections that sometimes border on corruption. Usually involving government contracts.

Two are wealthy simply through dumb luck. One is a lottery winner. The other was given a company by his dying boss because his boss had no family or friends to give it to.

I don't know a single person extremely wealthy from hard work and intelligence. Upper-middle class, yes. But not even close to a 7 figure income.

How stupid do rich people have to be?
Dumb enough to give money to me.

But why don’t they do that? I wanna know.
‘Cause rich people are selfish, ain’t that so.

So let’s tax ‘em to hell, that’ll show’em.
The dumb rich kids will just write a poem.

The very rich become liberals so they can wrap themselves in innocence and complain about their wealth — a bait and switch maneuver to shift the plunderers of wealth to others and not theirs. Or, you can buy a politician or politicians. Or, you can divest (quietly) and move out of state. Or, with some really good planning, move out of the country and renounce your citizenship. About 1,200 of these “greedy rich people” did this in 2011. It was up from 800 in 2010.
