As promised this is the weekly preppers' thread for preppers' to share especially good buys, idea's, new equipment, methods etc.
Preppers’ PING!
One important aspect of prepping is building up a big pool of survival knowledge. I have a vast library of PDF files on everything from canning food to raising goats. This week I'm going to acquire one of these, so that no matter what all that knowledge stays at my fingertips:

Top off your gasoline supply now before prices get too high. Don’t forget to add stabilizer.
If the power grid went down or Hussein takes over the internet you won't be able to access those files. Better to have them printed out.
Bought a 95-year-old treadle sewing machine. Yea, still works. $175.
pdfs can be stored locally on your hard drive or jump drive
no need for the internet
This Ohio company sells to the Amish. Everything I’ve bought is good quality, good prices. While some of their oil lamps are Chinese, w/ equivalent prices, most of the merchandise is made in USA, some by the Amish.
True ‘hard’ copies are good. I was wondering can you read pdf files on a tablet? The news ones batteries last a good whille and I wouldn’t think it would take long to chrage them up using one of the many solar chargers with the ubs attachment.
A tablet is a good thing to have for reading your reference materials, especially if you have the solar charger.
Do they work as well as advertised?
I have a Stirling engine I bought from Lehmans - not cheep, but a seriously cool piece of technology.
“A” tablet?
I’ve been thinking of steam for powering various generators and such ... there are many manufacturers of the engines but there seems to be very little in the way of boiler manufacturers... comments?
I just ate napolitos with scrambled egg. I wasn’t sure I would like them but they are okay and I know where millions of prickly pear cactus live.
Build a wood gas furnace, instead.
All of your existing gear will run off wood gas, without any conversion at all.
I see that someone downthread already said this,
but look into a wood gasifier.
Get a natural gas powered generator and build/buy a wood gasifier and you have electricity.
start here: http://gekgasifier.com/
Do you mean I should have a specific brand of tablet, or multiple tablets?
In a few weeks, the prickly pear cactus will be putting on fruit which makes great jelly if you’re into home canning. Also, can the juice.
This one makes me laugh - be sure to note the kids and the dog...

I was referring to the fact that you only mentioned having one.
I’ve been running gasoline through the food dehydrator. I have several coffee cans full of powdered gas now.
And apparently not wearing a mask when you do it.
That guy has one kickassifier...
What a stainless steel beauty.
I wonder if he built it or bought it.
Jokes aside, there is a desktop distiller “available” online.
I say it like that because it gets sold out every time it is replenished.
1500 to 2000cc per 5 gallon bucket.
1500 for dense packed grains like rolled oats and wheat.
2000 for corn beans.
Now that you mention it about a year ago my local Walmart stopped giving away their buckets as well.
It seems he sells them.
ah, but you can’t get prices unless you “become a member”...
That’s at http://www.victorygasifier.com, which is the website I saw at the vid.
Here is a useful chart with recommended oxy absorbers to use for different size containers and different types of product.
While you are there check out theiir prices on 5 mil bags and oxy absorbers.
USA Emergency Supply
https://www.usaemergencysupply.com/emergency_supplies/oxygen_absorber_recommended_amounts.htm
Every reference I have seen says you cannot use too many - if you go over the recommended amount it doesn't hurt anything.
I did 5 gal buckets with 20 pounds of elbow macaroni using 2,000 cc oxy abs. in each and they came out rock hard.

Before and after pics - Queueing to grocery shop after the Japan tsunami. Just something to think about. Also, would the lines be so peaceful in the US?
Don’t buy 02 absorbers!
Wait until “hothands” go on sale. They’re the same thing - iron filings.
I just called them, after reading you post - they would not tell me on the phone, either.
Which creeps me out.
But I did find this part funny ...
We accept:
1.Cash
2.Check
3.Wire transfer
4.Gold Barter
5.Money Order
Due to security and privacy concerns we do not accept credit card payments.
There’s a couple sections in my Preparedness Manual with reconmendations and instructions for storing food buckets.
The manual can be downloaded here:
http://tomeaker.com/kart/Preparedness1j.pdf
That’s pretty funny...
they want your email address, but credit cards bother them due to “privacy issues”.
I have it on good authority (Steven Harris of solar1234.com) that the GEKGasifier is a very good quality product and a good outfit to order from.
They have everything from free CAD plans to kits to assemble, to complete gasifiers, to gasifier + genset.
And their prices are right on the website.
The stabilizer I bought is PRI-G. For barely twenty bucks plus, it does 516 gallons. More economical than Stable. Came on time with no problems.

My sister and I put together a binder. Each page list all supplies needed. When I get it I check it off. Tools, medicine, food prep, cooking, water, miscellaneous, seeds. Then we listed an inventory of food..what we have (checked) and what we still need. Then I printed off formulas for water purification, measurements translation, recipes, uses for.....vinegar, witch hazel. baking powder, etc.
Most states highly regulate steam boilers of all descriptions... Including special insurance to cover it and regular inspections...
There are lots of other options before coping with that...

Expensive, but more honest than the other guy.
Interesting, that it takes about 25#/hr to make 10 kva.
Just bought global sun oven. It came with pots, bread pans and dehydrator. Gets up to 350 to 400 degrees. Haven’t used it yet. Look easy to use. Only 22 pounds

Link? Might want one for the cabin.
The thing is, you could power your house easily on a 3kw generator.
My plan is to get a smaller NG generator, around a 5kw (woodgas has less energy density than NG), and get the GEK kit and assemble it myself and hook it up to the NG generator.
The kits are much cheaper than the whole 10kw/20kw skids.
Present! love this weekly thread! thanks you Mr. K.
I have a 7350 at home, and a 3000 at the cabin - which is a joke, because the cabin has no lights ...
Still, it is useful for running my saws and the like.
somewhare on the web, I have seen plans for a gassifier you can build yourself, if you have the time.
Here is an idea - run down to the local community college, and sign up for a welding class.
They will let you use a hot metal glue stick for the cost of a couple hundred bucks tuition, and you can build a gassifier as your term project.
Great site. Thanks. Just Added to Favorites...
