Sorry...I really didn't mean to be as critical as it sounded.

I commend anyone who has made any effort what-so-ever to prep. Congratulations, keep up the good work.

Everyone that frequents these threads know that I am a dedicated and supportive FR prepper. I did not mean to 'ruffle any feathers.'

I’ve heard that Costco offers a variety of canned dehydrated / prepper foods. Can you get a day pass to Costco and pay cash for both it and the merchandise?

I have never used Costco so I have no experience. Can anyone that use Costco answer as to day passes?

I’ve been a Costco member for four or five years but it’s some distance from my home so I’m not a frequent shopper there.

That said, I have never heard a day-pass mentioned when I’ve signed up or renewed.

The annual membership isn’t terribly steep, if you go for the basic one: fifty bucks for the year, if I recall correctly.

I’ve never heard of a day pass either. Best bet would be to find a member and go shopping with them.

Just last week, I was recollecting with hubby about when we were first married (64 years ago), there were no paper towels, I “borrowed” rags from my mothers rag bag, to get me by until I could establish my own rag bag. Every unusable piece of cloth was put in that bag and used for lots of inconceivable purposes.
Time to start another “rag bag”.

That is great advice.

They don’t care if you bring someone in with you. They will check the member’s ID at checkout, so he will have to “pay” for the goods.

"Time to start another “rag bag”.

Good for you. I remember 'no paper towel' days too. "

I've been buying used towels at garage sales for almost nothing...candles too. I already have boxes of each stored out in the shed.

BTW, I also buy all the Coleman stoves, lanterns and etc at yard sales, for almost nothing. I've already gotten more than I can ever use so...they become barter.

I truly believe us “old farts” would do much better in a SHTF scenario than younger healthier people. Living during “real hard times” , I have been ingrained with coping realities. Although far from wealthy, I live very comfortably in my log cabin off from any main road. Never use my electric stove fall, winter or spring, preferring to cook on my cast iron wood range. Haven't used my electric dryer in 5 years. Dry my clothes outside or on my wall hanging collapsible wooden dryer. Have a hand pump attached to PVC pipe long enough to reach water in my driven well with a check valve on the end so I can obtain water without electricity and also have a river flowing within 100 feet of my house.
Meanwhile my children think I'm crazy to be so thrifty. Some day, they may wish they had been this thrifty and well-prepared.
No fancy restaurants for us, either. Our favorite meal is noontime when we pack a lunch nearly every day, rain or shine and drive to the local beach and watch the dogs and gulls cavorting on the sand.

Agreed, these young upstarts won’t have a clue. If it’s not one app away on their i-Phones, they’ll be lost. The Depression was before my time but I was raised by frugal grandparents who made it through so that most of this is second nature or no brainers. But I do worry that so many will die within three feet of a water source or become thugs who take everything in sight. I taught our kids the best I could when they were little but now they just roll their eyes.
