On Saturday, Carbonite CEO David Friend released a statement on his companys website declaring that Carbonite had decided to withdraw advertising from Rush Limbaughs radio show in the wake of his controversial remarks involving Georgetown Law student Sandra Fluke because it will ultimately contribute to a more civilized public discourse:
Even though Mr. Limbaugh has now issued an apology, we have nonetheless decided to withdraw our advertising from his show. We hope that our action, along with the other advertisers who have already withdrawn their ads, will ultimately contribute to a more civilized public discourse.
However, it hasnt done much to contribute to his companys stock price. Since the market opened on Monday through its close today, Carbonite stock (NASDAQ:CARB) has plummeted nearly 12 percent, outpacing the drop of the NASDAQ index in that same time period by nine-and-a-half points. It was also one of the biggest decliners on the NASDAQ on Tuesday.

I wish FR would create a huge highlighted link at the web portal page to inform Freepers of companies that support liberal causes and liberal media. There are a lot more conservatives in this country than idiot liberals... let’s boycott them into oblivion.
Buy an external hard drive and back up your own data.
I agree.
It would be handy to have a list of companies and their political bent.
Guess I’m a bigot that way. I prefer to do business with people and companies that have the sense to support conservative principles and shun commie dictats. Same reason I won’t consider movies with Cruise, Sheen etc.
Kinda like Citco. With all the choices available, why buy Chavez fuel? I feel the same about GE, Berkshire, and GM.
The media got a big chuckle out of Romney when he said corporations are people. We all know that legally they are indeed viewed that way. But a corporation/company is very much a reflection of the people running the joint. Rotten leadership taints the whole.
i thought about that the very first time I heard one of their commercials...
Just buy external backup drives and keep on a routine to update them.

You have NO backup unless it is off site.
“That’s it!” I now know that this disease that I have suffered for years is heredity, Opinionated Italian disease! LOL! Thanks svcw for my diagnosis, it is truly appreciated. Good news is no meds necessary cause there ain’t no cure.

Yes, if only Rush had used the word “strumpet” instead. Oh, well.
...or even stopped at slut, which was the absolute truth.
Life can suck when you completely alienate your PAYING clients.
Ping for later
But you bought it at Costco!!!!!
AAARRRRGH!!!!!!!
That was BEFORE the Rush kerfuffle!
Kim Komando has been advertising Carbonite much longer than Rush. She has a Saturday radio show 7-10 AM PST. Oh! Did I mention she “cut her teeth” at IBM?
Here is an interesting article by Kim that everyone might wish to read: http://www.komando.com/tips/index.aspx?id=12120
The article explains why the FBI might make it difficult to get online March 8.
I have McAfee total protection for my 3 computers. It has a cloud based back-up as a standard feature.
Now would be a good time for some smart competitor to run an ad campaign with Rush.
I’m guessing Carbonite will sell off even more today. Rush was by far the biggest name associated with them, and they haven’t been doing very well since their beginning. And the overwhelming majority of Rush listeners are big, big supporters. I think they cut their throat with this stupid move.
So you take a backup of your home computer and keep it at your desk at work, and a backup of your work computer you take home. Any disaster that completely destroys both locations will mean you have bigger things to worry about than your data.
If you work from home, substitute "some nearby relative or bank safe deposit box".
And as I mentioned before, it's really a win/win for them. They are anti-business anyway, so destroying a few businesses while trying to take Rush down is a bonus. That the businesses are ignorant enough to participate in their own destruction is mind blowing.
True, they would have had to face having their Facebook pages littered with incoherent rambling trash, but they are getting that anyway AND losing their real customers on the right.
A simple statement of "while we don't necessarily agree with the statement, we support Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Association." should have been all that was necessary.
I’m kicking myself for not shorting them when I found out they pulled their advertising.
The opposite is also true, and Rush has alluded to it by saying he can’t comment on it. (see “apophasis”)
New advertisers’ stock shoots up upon announcement of their sponsorship of Rush.
“So you take a backup of your home computer and keep it at your desk at work, and a backup of your work computer you take home. Any disaster that completely destroys both locations will mean you have bigger things to worry about than your data.”

I have no idea what you are babbling about.
I do not work. I do not even live in the USSA.
All I said was that anyone who needs serious backup should
use an off site service.....period
If Carbonite goes under because of this, what do you think will happen to your data?
I went to a “cash position” on most of my savings/retirement stuff several months ago.
We’re looking at a severe overall crash coming up,
and it won’t be pretty.
And all I said was rather than use a web-based off site service, just take a damn backup and store it someplace else.
I use Time Machine on my Mac . . . but you make an excellent point about physical security. Wonder if theres a way to use Time Machine to make multiple backups . . .Or maybe I should just get a second drive and periodically back up my Documents file and my photos . . .
What are the chances that carbonite with receive a bailout from their dearest leader?
That would be a great way for our government to receive data about Rush supporters who didn’t renew.
Don’t forget to send your used condoms to Fluke, White House and the rest.
I use a portable hard drive to back up my stuff and keep it in a fireproof safe. I’m thinking of getting a second one and keeping it in my safety deposit box or maybe my son’s place in case the first one is lost.
I’ve never been comfortable having my data out there in the (hackneyed word alert) Cloud and don’t/won’t use the cloud. Not paranoid (well, much), just don’t trust outsiders and think it’s no one’s business what’s on my hard drive. Plus I prefer being self sufficient.
pssst... I’ll be at Capital One Thursday closing two accounts with more than $100k in them... earning little interest.
Lifelock hasn’t canceled, have they?
The DNC claims to rep the indignant.
Why on earth would a business cater to the tomographic that cant afford its products?
I see Netflix type leadership at Pro Flowers, Carbonite and Select Mattress.

“I am not so much of a paranoid type, but I wonder about all the data they have on me.”
That’s always been a question in my mind. It’s truly scary.
“Same reason I wont consider movies with Cruise, Sheen etc.”
That’s the reason we don’t attend movies any more. In my mind is always the thought that one cent of the money I give to them will somehow end up in Obama’s coffers. Can’t do it.
Neat idea, but there may be (although I’m not sure) legal ramifications for senders. Bodily fluids can be lethal now. God knows I spent a decade in H.R. helping with training on that subject.
You’re a good person. Thanks!
I heard a Lifelock and Quicken loans commercial on his show today. I started laughing when I heard them.

Carbonite has online ads like crazy, all over the internet like weather sites, etc.
I am happy to click on their link then DO NOTHING so they have to pay Google for the click but get nothing in return.
Carbonite accountant: "Hey, boss, bad news: we're losing market share since we withdrew from the Limbaugh contract, and our stock took a nosedive."Carbonite CEO: [facepalm] "We're fluked!"
