Itís Time for Ron Paul to Drop Out
The Red Side of Life Conservative Musings from New York ^ | 3/7/12 | RedInNewYork

Posted on 03/07/2012 9:56:30 AM PST by jmstein7

It is time for Ron Paul to pack up his bags and go back to Texas. To the best of my knowledge, nobody in the media or blogosphere (which is technically part of the media) has called for Paul to exit the race. So, let me be the first. Get out!

At various times, the media – in print and on air – and GOP establishment have called for the exit of Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry, and John Huntsman. Oddly, nobody has asked the same of Paul. Paul has already admitted that he probably won’t win any states or pick up a material number of delegates (enough to nominate him), yet nobody is demanding the end of this devious side-show! The four aforementioned candidates have, at various times, demonstrated viability. Paul admits he has none. Yet he persists, and nobody calls him out. Why?

One plausible reason is that the establishment is behind Mitt – no, don’t deny it – and Paul’s presence helps Romney in two ways. Everyone is aware of the “BroMance” between Paul and Mitt – despite the single, hollow ad Paul ran to try to dispel the consensus of a Romney-Paul alliance. Paul has dutifully attacked Romney’s opponents in both fora such as debates and in advertisements (particularly against Santorum). This is reprehensible behavior! Staying in the race to game it for another candidate is beyond despicable!

The second way Paul helps Mitt is that he does indeed siphon-off not-Romney votes. Numerous polls and exit polling since the Primaries began indicate that self-identified Tea Party folk and Conservatives vote for Paul in percentages large enough to be significant, but small enough to avoid giving his campaign any real steam. These votes would otherwise go, at this point, to Rick or Newt, based on last night’s exit polls in the various Super Tuesday states. So, I must reiterate the contemptible nature of this Paul strategy. Santorum folks in particular should be calling for Paul’s head! Based on the outcome in Ohio, Santorum would have beaten Mitt in the absence of Ron Paul. For all the bellyaching Rick’s folks have aimed at Newt, it is a fact that the margins Paul pulled would have put Santorum over the top. Realize that Santorum supporters should be furious with Paul!

I have heard other excuses, such as claims that Paul brings in the youth vote and otherwise non-GOP voters. If that’s the case, Paul supporters are so loyal to their candidate that, if Paul made a strong enough case, he could drop out and shift that support to whomever he endorses – which won’t be a surprise. In any event, many of these claims are specious at best, because if it is true that these people won’t vote for a non-Paul nominee, and Paul can’t win (nor would any sane nominee make him their VP), the value of his presence is moot.

So, Mr. Paul, stop gaming the GOP race – it’s disgusting. Cease your reprehensible behavior and get out!

Ron Paul should have never entered the race last time around, let alone this time.

Paul should drop out of the race, resign congress, go back to TX to play with the grand-kids or paint the kitchen his wife has been nagging him to do for years or maybe clean out the garage.

Just posted an article on Romney after yours.

To survive the delegate count, all three conservative candidates and their supporters better hold on to the tail wind and STAY IN.

It will take ALL THREE to slow Romney until convention.

Good idea, but less likely than any of the other candidates dropping out.

Paul likes to portray himself as the dark horse, but the irony is he's just enabling the establishment.

Fat chance of Paul dropping out. He is use to losing in races by a wide margin. This time it looks like an inside deal to make his son VP with Mitt makes the unlikely even more unlikely. I hate to see Rand Paul leave the Senate, it needs more like him, not less.

Sorry, folks, but Ron Paul is one of three brave candidates who has held off a Romney cram down and bucked the socialist Republican Establishment.

I thank God for all three.

You just hate freedom, liberty, and skittles. Dr. Paul is the only true morning Constitutionalist. As a combat OBGYN, he gave the founding fathers their first pap smears. Anyone who doesn’t support Dr. Paul is just a building 7 conspirator and a neocon.

Also, what you don’t realize is Dr. Paul is actually really winning. The media is suppressing that he has actually won more delegates than anyone. The media is lying to you about Paul’s performance. Alex Jones told me so.

Just the opposite. First, there are only two conservative candidates (Paul is in no way Conservative, he is as much of a RINO as Romney). Second, unfortunately the delegate goals are getting closer to Romney’s reach so it is important that we have one person to rally behind, not split up around.

Also, as posted in several other articles, Romney and Paul are friends (have vacationed together, Paul has used Romney’s jet before) so I can easily see Paul wanting to help Romney (probably for the sake of his son’s career).

Both Paul and Romney are Conservatives’ enemy.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It’s the disgusting bastids within the GOP that have enabled RoPaul to do the damage that he has done.
When will RoPaul drop out? Only after he forces Newt Gingrich and Paul Santorum to drop out first.
Paul has been the spoiler for every conservative GOP candidate we have had. His job - as a USEFUL IDIOT - has always been to secure the nomination for Romney.
And still - there are FReepers who know this and yet still support Paul and by extention - Romney.
“It’s Time for Ron Paul to Drop Out”
Why?
Maybe crazy old Uncle Ron does go off into a fever swamp from time to time, but occasionally he does make a point, largely concerning reduction of the cost of Federal government.
Maybe nobody can get a handle on the runaway government we now have, but we should at least be TALKING about it. Uncle Ron is keeping it on the table.
Your post implies Paul IS the republican establishment, since you imply he's taking votes from Romney.
Of course he's not, he's taking votes from the other two. Which means he's hurting Santorum.
With him being in the race, it allows some people to see what liberterianism is. It also allows his opponents to see that some people agree with Ron Paul on alot of issues therefore his views can more easily come to the forefront.
I think that, if Ron Paul gets a fair number of delegates, there’s a chance he could negotiate for a spot as the eventual VP candidate. Not likely, really, but maybe worth it to him to stay in the primary race.
Count all the delegates spoken for.
Now count all the caucus state delegates. How many of these are ron paul peolple ? You have no idea. We eill not see the true size of the Ron Paul base until the second floor vote.
I don't, but the campaign is having conference calls to explain it to us over the next few days, and then I'm attending the county mass meeting saturday. I hate having to become politically active this late in life, but Ron asked, so what else can I do?
Should have a good idea about how the county-level process works next week, at least the way it works in Georgia.
You forgot your sarcasm tag.
Paul and Romney have partnered in this race, for some reason or the other.
Paul has bucked nothing, he has talked a lot but done nothing in his decades in Congress.
He needs to go away and take his actual few supporters with him.
Ron Paul is still amassing delegates away from Romney.
Ron Paul gets out and sends his delgates to Romney, in hopes that Romney needs the South and will put RAND PAUL on the ticket, maybe.
Ron Paul supporters are radicals who probably will go back into the underworld and won’t vote at all, with Ron out.
There are many reasons to try and get to convention. Ron Pauls and Newt are trying to get us all to convention. Santorum is just now catching on that he doesn’t have the delegates yet to be squealing for someone to get out.
He lags in PLEDGED DELEGATES. He is stuck with non-pledged delegates, who by the rules can wonder off anywhere and may be Paul supporters for all we know.
We need to watch the arithmetic.
Who knows, may be that the South will be willing to exchange Rick’s union favoring legislative record for the religious talk.
But. Maybe. Not.
Go Newt. (Who does lead now in PLEDGED delegates.)
Although you lay out a good case here, do you honestly beleive that people who support Paul would go to Romney? I do not.
It has already been demonstrated that Romney and Paul are partnering on something, either him as VP or his son (who by the way is no different than his dad, he just sounds more reasonable when he speaks).
Two things I know are this it as been and will be a nail biter all the way to the convention, and I will not vote for Romney - ever.
I so agree! Without our trio all in, all the way to convention, we lose not only our message to the RINO Establishment, but all clout to deal with them at convention on the subject of, NO MORE RINOS!
I think conservatives are catching on that we can’t make it to the convention in a one-on-one competition. We will be picked off at our flank.
God be with us.
What? Perhaps you disagree with me, and think Lib Joe was correct? Well then, perhaps you should post some anti-Newt comments like he did.
