Can Romney beat Obama?

Posted on 03/07/2012 6:40:54 PM PST by seeking enlightenment

With Romney squeaking out Ohio and a few other races before I have to question his electability. Ron Paul's supporters are going to support Paul no matter what but Santorum and Gingrich are splitting the vote. If Gingrich wasn't in the race then Romney loses the close races, there is not going to be anyone to split the the vote with Obama. Romney is also spending up to six times the money of the other candidates. Obama is talking about raising 1 billion dollars so Romney will probably be on the other side of the money battle and will his leads evaporate or will he be able to close the gap in the close races when he can't outspend Obama? I know that many people will vote for anyone but Obama but Romney doesn't seem to be able to inspire most of the Republicans and conservatives to vote for him so will he be able to pull in the undecided independents when the media turns the spotlight on him, he has yet to take a serious beating by the media yet and can he take it? If the race was a two man race and Santorum or possibly Gingrich had half his money I don't think he'd get the Republican nomination. So if Romney becomes the nominee and he no longer has his advantages and the pro Obama media comes into play, can he win?

Actually the supreme court justice is just another red herring pushed by the GOP establishment.

If O is reelected there is no way in hell any of the conservative justices will retire. However if Romney is elected Scalia or Kennedy might feel it is ok to quit and Romney will be free to nominate Justices far less conservative than either shifting the balance for years to come. I wont vote for Romney under any circumstances

RINOmney is exactly the candidate Obama wants to run against.

Obama's team will beat him like a rented mule, from every side:

RINOmney is the embodiment of the 1% - and amazingly, he doesn't seem to know it.
RINOmney has been responsible for firing people - and in this age of high unemployment, that isn't a good credential.
RINOmney by virtue of RomneyCare gives cover for Obama on one of the biggest issues of our age, Obamacare.
RINOmney makes abortion, gay rights, government mandates, etc. non-issues.
RINOmney can easily be neutralized by the Chicago machine.

... even worse, RINOmney fails to excite the base and alienates a huge portion (+20%)of Christian voters.

“Many won’t vote. Grow up.”

Many won’t vote for RINOmney exactly because they’ve grown up, having voted for Ford, Bush I, Dole and McCain.

The best answer I come up with is that what could have been a cake walk becomes highly questionable with Romney.

By the way, this is two cycles in a row where Romney, with his built in vast organization, and money, and with his aggressive posturing to people considering entering the races, has managed to keep out strong challengers.

Personally I won’t be voting for Mitt, so that is a sign that he may weaken the party down the line, I will be voting for the rest of the ballot, but not everyone who is repulsed by Romney will go to that trouble, and even fewer will be volunteering and donating, with Romney as the face of the party.

This could be a replay of FDR, where in competition with a flailing, failing, economically disastrous president, the challenger is still too weak to win.

Only if gas prices remain high then he has a chance to defeat Obama, other than that there is no chance...

Grow up chick.

Romney appointed plenty of judges, all of them liberals and leftists.

Only 25% of his judges were even in the republican party at all.

Where do y’all get that? Romney is far, far from being my candidate, but to equate him with 0bama is dangerous and just flat wrong. You think Romney will pack the courts with baby Bader-Ginsbergs and, oh, what’s her name - the most recent one? You think Romney will hire, at the taxpayer’s expense, czars in more ways than one, will repeatedly threaten to give our defense secrets away to the the Russians and Chinese, will give lip-service to the Israelis on the one hand and betraying them on the other? You really think that?

The main reason he cannot defeat Obama, (assuming gas prices do not remain high by elections day) is BAIN CAPITAL. Many on our side are so scared to mention this for the fear of being attacked by others on our side but it is BAIN CAPITAL that will utterly defeat Romney. Republicans should have listened to Gingrich and Perry few months ago when they talked about Bain Capital rather than going insane defending Romney including the so called “conservative” talk radio. Huge mistake and now we are paying the heavy price.

“You know the whole be a “gentleman” and be “honorable” “

I know gentlemen and I know honorable and Mittens is neither.

So Mittens is going to win over the middle by promising them less? I agree with you on the supreme court but Romney cannot beat a rock star. Stiff like Gore, supports socialized medicine, 2008 all over again. We tried the middle with Mcain...really didn’t work. No Offence intended I will vote for a shoe over Obama, but even $5.00/gal gas has the liberals smiling. Blowing up the civilians in Libya to keep Kadafi from killing them...silence. GITMO open...nothing, the VOLT...nothing...15.4T in debt smiles all around. Going moderate will not work, and Mitt is a moderate. If he wins he has my vote, but I will be plugging my nose again...not a good plan GOP. With respect of course.

“Romney and Newt are both capable of winning. The only real shot we have at losing this thing is Santorum.”

Amen! I don’t know how a new “never run so much as a lemonade stand” candidate can beat the current “never run so much as a lemonade stand” president.

I love Newt. I can barely tolerate Romney. Santorum sucks.

No. He’s the Rats’ chosen candidate, the rich poster boy for their class warfare campaign. We need a street fighter like Newt but I’m beginning to doubt we’ll get him.
