We live in a world that is becoming increasingly unstable, and the potential for an event that could cause “sudden change” to the U.S. economy is greater than ever. There are dozens of potentially massive threats that could easily push the U.S. economy over the edge during the next 12 months. A war in the Middle East, a financial collapse in Europe, a major derivatives crisis or a horrific natural disaster could all change our economic situation very rapidly. Most of the time I write about the long-term economic trends that are slowly but surely ripping the U.S. economy to pieces, but the truth is that just a single really bad “black swan event” over the next 12 months could accelerate our economic problems dramatically. If oil was cut off from the Middle East or a really bad natural disaster suddenly destroyed a major U.S. city, the U.S. economy would be thrown into a state of chaos. Considering how bad the U.S. economy is currently performing, it would be easy to see how a major “shock to the system” could push us into the “next Great Depression” very easily. Let us hope that none of these things actually happen over the next 12 months, but let us also understand that we live in a world that has become extremely chaotic and extremely unstable.
In the list below, you will find some “sudden change” events that are somewhat likely and some that are quite unlikely. I have tried to include a broad range of potential “black swan events”, but there are certainly dozens more massive threats that could potentially be listed.

not quite the way I would say it
1. Military strike on Iran breaks out into a regional war involing Syria, Israel, Hezzbulla, and US
2. Price of oil
3. Major West Coast earthquake
4. Drought in US
5. European debt crisis (not just Greece folks)
6. Other natural disasters in US (Hurricanes, tornados, etc)
7. Civil unrest associated with election campaign (OWS, Unions, rest of the demothugs)
The others are far outside the radar to really consider short term.

And those things have happened anyway and we’re all still here and hopefully calm.
I consider myself somewhat of a prepper (in the Boy Scout sense) - but the more time goes on I see that the doomsayers will always be around despite no panic in the streets because all they have to do is keep moving the goal posts.

massive emergence of John Gault and his followers
New Madrid fault megaquake destroys most of several river cities (St Louis and Memphis...) and causes significant damage for hundreds of miles around (Louisville, Cincinnati, Nashville), brings down all bridges carrying traffic and rail east-west through the middle of the country, blocks barge traffic on the Mississippi and much of the Ohio.
Isn’t the point for John Gault and his follower to stay hidden until the ‘Zommbies’ do themselves in?

It will always be a threat to prepare for. Key is .... Be prepared to endure all such incidents as best one can.
What if is a valid consideration to guide such. But stick to the basics an simplified preparations that can be sustained with ease.

My personal (purely speculative) take is that the most likely time we may see devolution is in 2013.
I think the Obama administration, with the help of the corrupt MSM, is keeping (barely) all the plates spinning until after the 2012 election. Whatever happens in November, the pressure will be off to maintain the economic and geopolitical ruses that I believe are currently being perpatrated. I think that after the presidential election the chickens will begin to come home to roost, and if Obama is reelected I guarantee he will finally drop the last remaining mask. Obama will most certainly reveal his true radical face, and if Republicans do not control one or both Houses of Congress it will be Katie-Bar-the-Door.
Additionally, if Obama is reelected he will likely get another two or more Supreme Court picks. He will pick radicals and the GOP will do nothing and then this country will all but officially be OVER. It will then simply be a matter of time, not if, but when.
Sound like a “normal day at the office”, to me, K.
We’ve been living with many of those things for years, but now all of a sudden, they’re succintly-condensed, listed and many more are paying attention to “the list”.
