A Sanitarium Made of Gullible Saints.

The wife of a close friend of mine returned from lunch with an older, female, Tea Party supporter and immediately had to tell me all about it.

“She was 100% a Santorum supporter,” my friend’s wife said.

I of course am fascinated by this, so I couldn’t wait to find out two things. “Why?” and, “Did she stay that way?”

You see, my friend’s wife is a no nonsense, salt of the earth, Catholic Tea Party heroine. She’s one of those women without whom the Early West would have ended up as a an American version of Afghanistan. You know, like inner city Detroit, Michigan or the boarded up parts of Kansas City. Those women were as strong as the men, diligent to a fault and made sure that basic values of goodness, hard work and integrity defined their progeny.

“Her entire support for him was about religion. When I asked her what Santorum had actually accomplished to make her think he should/could be President, her example was that he helped stop gay marriage from being stopped or adopted in some state.”

I’ve noticed an inordinate number of religious-ists who continue to present two arguments for Santorum. Namely:

* He’s a good Christian man of strong moral character, and, * Newt Gingrich cheated on his wives

But with Gingrich and Santorum, you are right, they are under the microscope.

I don't know exactly what you call it, but a lot of people call it the Double Standard for Conservatives, especially Conservative women, though after the Rush thing, conservatives are finally fighting back a little more intensely... hope it keeps up.

"...his entries on Santorum/etc. are by far and away among the most thorough and substantiated I've ever seen.

He is a national Newt treasure. This is a link to his tour de force, he got so many requests for reprints, he finally made a pdf of it. It is a bit of a long read - maybe 10 min - but oh my it is worth it. It will take your support of Newt to a whole new level. PROMISE.

I don’t know how Santorum has done it, but he has completely hoodwinked these people into thinking religion is the #1 issue facing our country.

Complete and utter BS.

Nice try, no cigar.

And yes, I sincerely mean to imply “that” on every incorrect PC level.

You do realise that Santorum is Catholic, and Catholics don't have “preachers”, firebrand or not, don't you?

Romney is the Obama mirror image, with an R instead of a D.

We’re on the same page.
I wish the Right would keep their eyes on the Goal,
and not the personal issues, especially with Gingrich.
I’m sure his personal failures have made him smarter and
wiser about life. I know it has worked that way in my life!

->James Dobson, has said of Callista: We can't have an adultress in the White House

I think he should retire and find a replacement -he is Not doing God's work.
I saw an interview with Newt. The anchor said- you know you should get out of this race because Mr. Speaker, you know James Dotson has ask his supporters not to support your candidacy due to your personal past making the numbers not there for you. Newt replied, I get it. ( And I get it too-false believers and pretenders on one side the radicals on the other and the patriots trying to hold the line) The goody 2 shoes are making this much worse than it needs to be. What are we now doing-putting people in groups like the libs do-Cheat on wife (you are spoiled goods-no redemption no purpose in society. I am so blessed to have had loving parents that did not drill in my head and fill my heart up to hate (think less of them) people who had sin. You would think Dr. Dobson knew that. No more of his petitions on my email and my donations to him and his groups. I thought he was a honest man. This is what gives the religious right room for criticisms. Talk the talk walk the walk. I met a lady at a restaurant (for business meeting). She told me that God has sent Rick Santorum in power to end gay marriage. I ask her-how can he do this? Her answer: Rick said at a rally that he would stop it and undo all of those kind of marriages. I tried to reason with her to no avail.

As a Santorum supporter, I am sure you have no realization of how ethically pliable Santorum is... plus the fact, if you heard him in Al and MS in some of his rallies, that were more like tent meetings than campaign stops, you would know ol' rickster knows how to wind them up and preach come to Jesus better than most... I would totally support any church he would start.

“Of course. He's a caricature of religious zealotry that Leftists like to accuse Conservatives/Republicans of being. Santorum as the nominee would be very damaging to Conservatism and alienate a great many people.”

I'm not sure how old you are but this very same thing was said about Ronnie when he was running. I think it turned out well.

Most people aren't afraid to stand up for religion. Others like i imagine you are need someone else to lead because your worried about the left making fun of you.

That's ok just follow and watch.

Are you Jim’s wife by chance?

What amazes me is you can’t see how shallow his arguments against RS are. I read part one of his anti RS post and thought i was reading any lib newspaper.

Nothing against Newt at all but this guy is a light weight.

I'm in my late 20s, so no I wasn't politically cognizant during Reagan's term. Though I never got the impression that Reagan was fixated on religion and 'social issues' to the extent Santorum is.

I don't have a problem with people defending religion (except Islam, which is a menace to civilization)—and I say that as a distinctly nonreligious person. For instance, I've heard Newt rail multiple times against anti-Christian bigotry, and I appreciate that because it's obvious to me that such biases are actively condoned and perpetuated by the government and other societal institutions.

My problem with Santorum is that he's not a very well-rounded or robust candidate, and religion seems to be an overriding core fixation of his ideological platform as a whole. I suspect this will make him quite weak in a general election.

well can i suggest you take some time and listen to his speeches from back then. He scared many on our side because he wasn't afraid to state his beliefs and the great role they played in the formation of this country.

I'm not a bible thumper or anything and RS isn't perfect but with foundation of religion he has a chance to be a good president and you'd be shocked how many would be drawn to that message.

Its sad when someone votes based only on religion. Presidents are also CIC and policy setters...Voting for christian religion only, gave us Jimmy Carter, a born again christian that confessed he lusted in his heart once for a woman....bam, that got the religious voters big time and we all know how his presidencey turned out....I am not against Santorum, I was for Cain, but being president is not the same as voting for the pastor of your church...as we all found out with Carter....

In spite of having to vote in the Senate, his ACU rating is as good, or in his last year, better than Gingrich’s.

Newt's ACU rating when he left office was 100...I was unaware that there was a higher rating?
