Who shoots with .40 caliber?

DHS agents do, as they are required to go through rigorous range training, where each agent shoot 1587 rounds per day, 6 days a week, for 6 months before qualifying. After qualifying, they are expected to fire 2000 rounds per day, but for only 5 days per week. After 2 years, they are expected to re-qualify.

Its to do with the upcoming Supreme Court decision on Obama care.

They feel CW2 is right around the corner.

Seems like a lot of ammo for an agency which is seldom, if ever involved in a gun fight.

DHS includes the Border Patrol, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Coast Guard, Air Marshals, the Federal Protective Service (formerly the protective division of the Secret Service, which was under Treasury), and the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center.

That last one, if it's doing its job, probably goes through more ammo than all the others combined.

Border patrol? Air Marshals? Federal Law Enforcement Training Center?

Well, in that case, I would assume they would need about 750 million rounds. 450 million seems a bit short.

Gezzz..

Ya know whats funny is, DHS, the Border Patrol, Immigration and Customs Enforcement needs 450,000,000 rounds, yet we've got upwards of 25 million illegal aliens in country, during war time..

What are they shooting at?

"DHS agents are required to go through rigorous range training, where each agent shoots 1587 rounds per day, 6 days a week, for 6 months before qualifying.

They may be able to shoot a squirrel at 100 yards, but the shoulder joint, if it is a rifle, or the joints of the hand can experience severe medical problems with an ill-fitting handgun. Some say the recoil of a .40 caliber is worse than a .45 caliber because it is snappier, causing a hard jolt to the hand, or to the shoulder. After shooting 1587 rounds in a day, I could see a DHS agent in real trouble from joint pain.

I believe that ALL Army members have to go through annual ARMS qualifications every year.

I served in Army bands and had to qualify in physical fitness as well in rifle quals and I also had to go through the gas chamber every year along with yearly qualification on whatever instruments I was expected to qualify on.

That last item was especially interesting because I had to qualify as a Euphonium/baritone player as well as on tuba which was my major. I never played baritone in the band although I did play trumpet and French Horn as well as tuba.

The army expected all band members to qualify on a secondary instrument and baritone was more likely than either french horn or trumpet to be the secondary instrument.

The two bands I was in, 5th Army at Ft Sheridan Illinois and the 74th Army band at Ft Benjamin Harrison Indiana also had to go through a yearly qualification unit wide.

Almost all the law enforcement has now gone to .40 or some to .10 MM. Mostly .40 so I would agree with you that they are buying for some other reason that drying up the supply.

It could be many things and none of it good for you and me.

I was being facetious.

Some here think DHS ordering tens of hundreds of millions of rounds of ammo, is perfectly legitimate.

It's freaking nuts.

I was told DHS is also the Border Patrol, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and told they need 450,000,000 (million) rounds, yet we've got upwards of 25 million illegal aliens in country, with a never ending conga-line of tens of hundreds of thousands entering illegally, unabated.

Anyone have any idea what they're shooting at?

Anyone??

It is nuts. Maybe an ammo manufacturer is an Obama Regime crony.

Thanks, they have a fun web page. Looks like overkill for the present but staying ahead is the game plan, I guess. :)

Sorry, but I do not understand. You believe HS shouldn't buy ammunition? Or are we now talking about something else? The budget deficit? What is your point relative to the post? Non sequitur?

It is called “procurement.” Lots of government agencies do it.

Yes, we know lots of government agencies do it.

It's like that when they use other people's money.

Even when they're broke, bankrupt and 14 trillion in the hole!

Sorry, but I do not understand. You believe HS shouldn't buy ammunition?

Not what I said Missy, read the above again slowly. They got no damn business or money for purchasing hundreds of millions of pistol rounds.

BTW, I was told DHS is also the Border Patrol, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and told they need 450,000,000 (million) rounds.

Yet we've got upwards of 25 million illegal aliens in country, with a never ending conga-line of tens of hundreds of thousands entering illegally, unabated, during war time yet.

Anyone have any idea what they're shooting at with all this ammo?

How about you Lydia?
