People Are Badly Misinterpreting Rick Santorum
Red State ^ | March 23, 2012 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 03/23/2012 2:56:36 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

Much hay is being made of Rick Santorum saying he’d prefer Obama to Romney. Except that is not what he said or what he meant. Certainly he could have had a clarifying clause in his statement, but given the context, I think he was saying no more and no less than what I have been saying.

I’m on record thinking it is over and Romney is the nominee, but the hand-wringing over Santorum is juvenile and reminds me again why I so dislike Team Romney. We’re going to have put up with months of Team Romney whining about things if he is the nominee. This is the latest example.

What Santorum said was:

“You win by giving people a choice,” Santorum said during a campaign stop in Texas. “You win by giving people the opportunity to see a different vision for our country, not someone who’s just going to be a little different than the person in there.”

Santorum added: “If they’re going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk of what may be the Etch A Sketch candidate for the future.”

I think it was clear from the context of his remarks that Santorum was not expressing his own thinking, but expressing the thinking of general election voters. And I think he is absolutely right, which is also why I think Romney makes such a bad nominee (not that I think Santorum would be any better).

As I have said before

"conservatives may not like Barack Obama, but most other people do. And when faced with a guy you like and a guy you don’t like who says he can fix an economy that no longer needs fixing, you’re going to go with the guy you like."

Right now Mitt Romney has higher negatives with independent voters than Hillary Clinton did in 2008. Add in the Etch-A-Sketch comment and he is ripe to be painted as the next iteration of the Massachusetts flip-flopper no one can trust.

I think Santorum was spot on in describing how voters would see the race in November. Why would they want to give up a guy many of them like, but who don’t much care of his job performance, for a guy they don’t like whose own campaign admits is like an Etch-A-Sketch.

Erick Erickson is not a man I would follow into war, or care to depend on in a fox hole.

He flew from one candidate to another, then back again, before his grand announcement the other day, "We have our candidate, Romney" [for which, he was given a big plug (and MSM hug] on Fox New's Special Edition last night].

NOW he feels it is his job to explain Santorum's comments about Romeny [Newt is also hitting Mitt on this --- but as usual Newt doesn't need an interpreter].

Erickson must have a difficult time finding a hat that fits his fat head. He should look over Jim DeMint's hat rack. There should be hats there that fit.

If Romney is elected, he will implement the Lefty/Liberal Creep-Toward-Socialism agenda. He may not try to move quite as fast as Obama, but he will still move in the same direction.

The difference is, Obama would be working with a hostile Republican Congress, and would not be able to pass any of his ambitious legislative plans. He would be limited to the damage he can do through abuse of his executive authority. This potential damage is substantial, but not unlimited, as we saw in the slapping down of the EPA by the Supreme Court this week.

Romney, on the other hand, will have a friendly Republican Congress, and can count on support of moderate Republicans and Democrats to pass whatever he wants. He will be able to codify whatever he wants into law. And what he wants is more of the same.

So, yeah, Romney might be worse than Obama.

I don’t know why people keep whining about having to interpret what Rick Santorum says, I understand him fine and agree that its pointless to try and make distinctions between Romney and Obama.

Romney has won Obama strongholds while insulting conservatives through the primary season and has pretty much admitted that he’ll be more “moderate” in the general election. There’s simply no way he’s going to win.

I guess you didn’t get the Team Newt memo.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2862630/posts

Many Newt supporters are using this as an opportunity to say Rick committed a gaffe because they tried to push the falsehood that Rick TOLD people to vote for Obama over Romney, when he obviously didn’t say that. Take a read at that thread if you get a chance. Might surprise you how overboard people really tried to stretch the comments.

Newt's right: ANY of the Republican Candidates ('cept Ron Paul IMO) would be an INFINITELY BETTER President than Obama.

I just voted for Gingrich in the IL Primary, however the reality is that Obama's such a BAD President, that I'll vote for whoever wins the Republican Primary.

It's just this simple: This country cannot take another four years of an Obama Presidency, and the simple thought of Obama having free reign to do what he wants, unshackled from ever having to face the voters again literally scares the shit out of me.

With Romney we'll have "common sense" gun control and "stopping dependence on foreign oil" global warming socialism, and like you said, it will pass because Congress will be more compliant than if we had a conservative candidate getting conservative voters out in November.

But I'm not worried about a Romney presidency, he will lose to Obama.

And with that logic, the GOP-e will ensure that a prominent conservative NEVER makes it to the top of the ticket...EVER

If they can scare you into voting for whomever the nominee is, then there is no checks and balances to them or any incentive to promote conservatism.

I won’t support Romney or vote for him, because he is Obama-lite and the epitomy of the GOP-E.

YOU SAID: FOR SCOTUS ALONE THIS IS A STUPID MOVE

Please tell me what makes you think Romney would actually appoint a conservative to the bench given his record of appointing liberal judges in Mass?

Not only that, but even if the Republicans take over the Senate, I can easily, EASILY, name 10 RINOs that will cave in and ensure that a justice deemed “too conservative” won’t get a fair hearing. A Romney won’t have the backbone to stick with it. He will appoint someone that gets approval of the Dems or the RINO-Senate, then blame whatever bad happens on the Court on the Senate instead of himself.

Now, do you really think this country can survive another 4 years of this POC in the White House? If not, you'd best be prepared to swallow your pride on the Republican Presidential Candidate and work towards electing a Conservative House and Senate because that's the only way we start taking this country back at this point.

Suggest you channel your energy properly here.

A Hydra Is In The Mourning After Pill
OBMACARE is a 1.76 Trillion $ Hydra a 9 headed snake
which Can only be Destroyed By A Firebrand
by L.J .Keslin http:// www.theusmat.com

Of the three GOP candidates remaining opposing Mitt Romney . Only one man had the courage to take on a what they call a third rail issue...Eugenics... One of the heads on the Obamacare snake and has had his character asassinated for it... He’s been pummeled from both sides called , a women hater ,, a religious nut, ..a one trick pony, Santorum spends an hour discussing oil and the economy then 10 seconds comenting about pornography but guess what MSM and Santorum detractors will talk about... certainly not ,what’s really in the 1.76 trillion dolllar wonder called Obamacare ,,...!; Population control.... and all that goes with it. Including cost, 1.76 trillion.

To pay off a trillion dollars at $1.00 a second would take 31,668 years. At 1 billion dollars a second only 998.99 years*.. Not including interest. There is no way to “fix” Obamacare.. This is a Christmas gift that must be returned by someone determined to do so not just exchanged .* A billion seconds=31.7 years+

Two groups late in the last century led in Eugenic development. The Nazis and the Communists. Few know or remember how the Nazis began. First citing “health risk” “nicht rauchen” baning cigarette smoking, Then terminating Down Syndrome children, and then on to mentally defective children and adults,. then on to besides murdering opponents, races. All done to make the German Reich healthy and last a thousand years.

So you go to the MSM (Main Stream Media) the so called “gate keepers” for information about these things and you find closed gates .. The sorcerers in the media magically reduce a 2000 page Hydra , a Greek legendary nine headed venomous serpent that must be slain by a firebrand ,and morph it into the mourning after pill and a “womans health care issue.”
The “gatekeepers” never tell you that Obamacare bill creators and the Amish are exempt from being in Obamacare. The drafters are on record actually calling it population control and demanding Catholic bishops support it.* Their statements are out there .But not mentioned by the so called gate-keepers but by the AM the alternate media, meaning radio talk shows like Limbaugh’s and websites like Britebart’s Government . Places Obama wants to shut down and will once re-elected *Joel Pollak Britebart Government .

Women surrender their rights when they buy into this monstrosity . That is what’s in Obamacare which is deceptively titled “The Affordable Health Care Act” .Yet Obamacom tzars who hail from that foreign land, the deep swamp of Acadamica are all preaching the utopian wonders of Eugenics. Why it’s the final solution (remember him ?) population control. Which is part of the Obamacare package.
Let’s hope Santorum decides not to shy away from this issue miss characterized as only a social issued. It is both a social and financial issue $ 1.75 trillion is in no way a minor expenditure. Population control affects US from the cradle to the grave. .but Santorum can not speakout and act against this despicable movement ? Particularly when that is being shoved on religious groups by the Demo-Coms . Especially when they are ignoring constitutional rights...

Recently private job creation projects rejection by the socialists controlling new demo-com party should send a signal to the Republican bleeding heart establishment . “Bi-partisanship” doesn’t exist with the socialists who have taken over the democrat party and to the GOP leading presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Mr Romney should start realizing Obama is a “socialist”.. Everyone including the monthly liberal magazine Newsweek knows he is but Mr Romney just can’t seem to get around to saying it . Preventing an iron mine in Wisconsin for a desperate area in need of jobs or preventing the Keystone pipeline transfering oil from Canada to American refineries decisions which would have provided employment to thousands and reduced gas prices. was not on the new demo-com agenda.which has taken over. Common good is not their concern but their welfare is.. not ours .

Am pritnig this up and Will be using this in the 3rd dist where I live I enourage you to do the same

Judges appointed to the SCOTUS by Mittens will not be rubber stamping everything voted into law by Obammy.

Presently Obamma think their is an open season on the US Constitution. He just needs a Majority of the SCOTUS to agree with him.

If and when Obammy gets his Majority in the SCOTUS expect a Methodicaly dismantling of the US Constitution. If you want sharia law as the law of the land in US go ahead and vote Obammy. Currently the SCOTUS is impeding his plan.

The level of mathematical illiteracy in that piece makes me unable to read it.

At first glance it’s pretty clear that paying something off at 1 billion times the rate means it takes 1/1000000000 the time. So 31668 years / 1 billion is quite obviously not 998 years. The writer must be a dolt to expect to be taken seriously.

For those who want simple math:

$1000000000000 being paid off at $1000000000/ second takes 1000 seconds. This translates to 41 days.

Of course there’s not enough GDP on the planet to pay anything off at $1B/second. That comes to $31.5 quadrillion a year. World GDP comes in at $63.12 Trillion.

If we use that number, the whole world puts out about $2001 per second.

This amounts to 1/500000 of a $billion/sec.

People need to accept the simple fact that some of our top republicans are democrats. John McCain provides a great clue as to what would happen under a Romney administration in crying that we need to get off the contraception mandate.

His death star PAC ads have driven the GOP base from the primaries.
Mittens needed to demoralize the GOP base to win the primaries .
He plans to keep Obamacare in place , ram thru cap& trade ,
Pro amnesty , pro abortion .
But it’s worse because he plans to use the GOP to do it .

The Newters are still courting the delusion that he can win.

He would not be chosen at a convention, either. He has too few wins and came in behind Ron Paul in many races.

We lose because people pick a person with no chance and work to destroy the ones who have a chance.

Or maybe they need someone to bash and would be bored without bashing.

How naive are you .This comment was fed by Romney smear team to destroy Rick .
Romney bits needed a diversion after his Aides huge plunder .

It’s called a diversion tactic and you feel for it .

Funny, you had no problem posting his columns when he was an attack dog for Perry.

I noted his fickleness dirtboy in my first post, which was the point of my comment.

I also noted it way back when he left Gov. Perry (and was laughed at by posters who said, "No he's in the bag for Perry!").

Next he went for Cain (I believe), then Newt, then Santorum and now has knelt before Romney, like a good little boy.

I really don't understand your continued animosity toward me.
