Biden: Trayvon Martinís Death Should Spark Gun Law Debate
The Blaze ^ | 04-01-12 | Madeleine Morgenstern

Posted on 04/01/2012 11:20:10 AM PDT by Lazlo in PA

Vice President Joe Biden said the death of Florida teen Trayvon Martin should prompt a debate about gun laws, particularly the state’s “Stand Your Ground” statute.

“It’s important that people be put in a position where their Second Amendment rights are protected, but that they also don’t, as a consequence of the laws, unintendedly put themselves in harm’s way,” Biden said in an interview broadcast Sunday on CBS’ “Face the Nation.”

Biden, a former chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said any such discussion would be a state issue, not a federal one. Still, he expressed doubt over the idea that carrying a gun makes people safer.

“The idea that there’s this overwhelming additional security in the ownership and carrying concealed and deadly weapons…I think it’s the premise, not the constitutional right, but the premise that it makes people safer is one that I’m not so sure of,” Biden said.

George Zimmerman, a 28-year-old neighborhood watch volunteer, has claimed self-defense in shooting Martin, who was unarmed. Zimmerman remains free, claiming protection under “Stand Your Ground,” which permits using deadly force rather than retreating in a fight.

I was wondering when these clowns were going to get around to pushing their gun grabbing agenda over this shooting. These people are so predictable.

According to DOJ crime statistics, guns are used 2.5-million times per year to prevent robberies, rapes, murders, carjackings, home-invasions, etc., 99% of the time without a shot being fired.

Agreed. I was also wondering when they were going to get to their “guns are bad” knee-jerk reaction.

So here’s the answer. When this 6-foot-plus 17-year-old jumps me in the dark and is punching my face and slamming my head against the ground, I need a gun for self-defense.

We SHOULD debate this. Bring it on.

To me, it's simply incredible that the bolded part of the quote was uttered by a liberal. If you had told me in the 1990's that this would be said by the likes of Biden, I would have laughed you off the stage.

Some progress has been made.

I agree. Just looking at the statistics and the fact that many states are expanding rights for gun owners, the gun grabbing lobby has been thoroughly discredited. I was equally surprised Biteme had to add this qualifier before he jumped into slamming the gun laws.

Why are they bringing “Stand Your Ground” into this? This wasn’t a stand your ground case - you never had a duty to retreat when doing so is impossible as with a thug slamming your head into the cement!

So why? Because it’s a toe-hold issue. One of the last big legal fights. And they’re losing. So they need to push back.

See my tag. BTW, the predator class includes the leftists who (1) enable thugs and (2) count on the thugs’ votes...

Gun control. This is what it’s been about from the beginning.

This chaos is orchestrated by the WH in conjunction with the media - it has always been about gun control. They all want it.

They think that their messaging problem is because what appeared to be an open-shut case, is not an open-shut case.

However, the real problem is that this WH is about as stupid as it gets and couldn’t pull off a sweater; let alone political theater.

Just like Fast-n-Furious.

Slow Joe:

Was Trayvon trespassing on private property (gated community)? Yes.

Did Trayvon assault Zimmerman? Yes.

Did Trayvon simply walk away or call the police? No.

So all the Trayvon protesters don’t understand 1) private property, 2) assault, or 3) avoiding confrontation?

Face it. Trayvon did all the wrong things. Period.

Oh, and F*** you Spike Lee, Will Smith, Bobby Rush, MSNBC and anyone that doesn’t believe in due process!!!!!!!!

unless Biden can explain to me, how Martin went from ‘walking away fast’ and ‘lost him,’ to being thisclose next to Zimmerman confronting him “why are you following me” in the space of about 60 to 90 seconds, all the while Martin’s girlfriend was on the phone, then he needs to shut the hell up and go back to his cave.

Biden: Trayvon Martin’s Death Should Spark Gun Law Debate

Hey, Joe Biden, here's the sort of debate it should spark: an inner debate along these lines, "I've seen a stranger following me but I've given him the slip. Do I a) lie low, continue to elude him, and call 911 or b) jump him and start beating the crap out of him even though he could be armed?"

So if Travon was so upstanding and undeserving of assault, perhaps the law should have not hindered him from carrying lest someone shoot him without cause.

The dem’s use of this incident is two fold:
Incite racial violence against “Whitey” and kill as many as possible and when large numbers of commander zero’s foot soldiers end up DRT cry out for stricter gun control laws.

Was Trayvon trespassing on private property (gated community)? Yes.

Wasn't he living with his father (who owns property there) at the time? How is it trespassing? Strangely enough, what the idiot Biden doesn't realize is that the situation would have been amicably resolved if Martin had been carrying a gun too. He could then have stood his ground and shot Zimmerman in the process. Then since Martin is black, the left would actually be supporting the use of guns for self-defence!

“...Martin, who was unarmed.”

That is exactly what I think when these liberals make this stupid call for more gun control. If Martin had a gun he might be alive now instead of being gunned down by this Zimmeerman fellow, who as far as I can tell from the LSM, is a raving KKK lunatic, wannabe cop that terrorized this neighborhood and gunned this poor defenseless little child down in cold blood as he lay on the ground screaming for mercy.

My thought, exactly.

So far, everything seems to be backfiring on Obama and the Dems. Sandra Fluke? Boomerang - as the "ordinary law student" turns out to be a 30-year-old feminazi activist who matriculated for the sole purpose of pulling a political stunt. Trayvon Martin? The "innocent young kid" turns out to be a violent teen thug with gold teef, tatoos and attitude - plus a string of high school suspensions for serious misbehavior. And now the tyrant-wannabees of the Obama Administration want to make this election a referendum on gun control? Please, make our day!

If nothing else indicates that the Obamists inhabit a parallel universe, these three examples prove it.
