SANFORD, Fla. -- A new photograph released by ABC News shows George Zimmerman with injuries on the back of his head.
The network says it was able to verify the photo was taken in Sanford on the night of the shooting using it's embedded data.
The photo was reportedly shot by an anonymous source with an iPhone three minutes after Zimmerman shot Trayvon Martin.
The source told ABC News that Zimmerman told them to call his wife and "tell her I shot someone."
The picture, which shows blood trickling down Zimmerman's head, may bolster the 28-year old's claim of self-defense in the shooting.
It was released right before Zimmerman's bail hearing, at which a judge set Zimmerman's bond at $150,000.
At the hearing, Zimmerman apologized Friday to the Martin family.
"I wanted to say I am sorry for the loss of your son," Zimmerman said. "I did not know if he was armed."
Before Zimmerman's testimony, his family said he is a caring, nonviolent man who organized a campaign on behalf of a homeless man who had been beaten and mentored an African-American boy for two years, his mother testified Friday during his bond hearing.
"I know that he is very protective of people, very protective of homeless people and also of children," Gladys Zimmerman testified by telephone.
Zimmerman, 28, is accused of second-degree murder in Martin's death on February 26.
Zimmerman went into hiding immediately after the shooting. Critics have accused him of racially profiling Martin and unjustly killing him.
His family testified Friday that the image is all wrong, saying earlier incidents of violence cited by prosecutors were misunderstandings or efforts to protect himself or a friend, and that he is no danger to the community.
""I've never known him to be violent at all unless he was provoked, and then he would turn the other cheek," Zimmerman's father, Robert Zimmerman Sr. said.
The new judge in the case, Kenneth Lester Jr., presided at the bond hearing.
His wife and parents testified Friday that the family has few assets. They were unable to say how much money has been raised by Zimmerman's online appeal for financial assistance.
Before his arrest, Zimmerman was hiding out of state but remained in touch with authorities, according to police in Sanford, Florida, where the shooting happened.
Natalie Jackson, an attorney for Martin's family, told CNN legal analyst Sunny Hostin on Thursday that O'Mara called to set up a private meeting between Zimmerman and the Martin family. The family declined, Jackson said, indicating they want Zimmerman, instead, to give a deposition on what happened the night Martin was shot.
Although details of the shooting remain murky, what is known is that Martin ventured out from the home of his father's fiancee in Sanford and went to a nearby convenience store, where he bought a bag of Skittles and an Arizona Iced Tea.
On his way back, he had a confrontation with Zimmerman, who shot him.
Zimmerman had called 911 to complain about a suspicious person in the neighborhood, according to authorities.
In the call, Zimmerman said he was following Martin after the teen started to run, prompting the dispatcher to tell him, "We don't need you to do that." Zimmerman pursued Martin anyway but then said he lost sight of him.
According to Sanford police, Zimmerman told authorities that after he briefly lost track of Martin, the teen approached him.
After the two exchanged words, Zimmerman said, he reached for his cell phone, and then Martin punched him in the nose.
Zimmerman said Martin pinned him to the ground and began slamming his head onto the sidewalk, leading to the shooting
Police have said Zimmerman was not immediately charged because there was no evidence to disprove his account that he'd acted in self-defense.
A police report indicated he was bleeding from the nose and the back of his head.
“Why aren’t the reporters talking to the EMS that treated him at the scene?”
That’s what I want to know. I just watched the “Young Turks” Youtube rants about the police surveillance video and this is an obvious question. The video is blurry and you simply can’t see any detail clearly enough.
If there was an EMS response wouldn’t they clean him up?

Amazing nothing was said about the threats to the Zimmerman family by the Court.
The message? If one is considered to be White, and one interferes with one of Holder's People as they are having teir fun, the full force of the law will fall upon you. To put it more plainely: Anyone that is considered to be White, if tyou resist one or more of Holder's People taking what is rightfully theirs from you, be it your life or property; you are in trouble wih the Man.
If one reads any news outlet except the main stream media, one will see that things are warming up as it pertains to the brothers and sisters playing the Wang Wang Blues on Whitey's noggin.
Unless Whitey says to himself/herself, "The Law can go to hell, if attacked, I will defend myself and mine to the uttermost!" It is going to be a long hot summer [and painful] for him/her.
To me, that does not appear to be Zimmerman’s head in the picture. The head in the picture has a clear “cul de sac” bald spot and hair line. However, although Zimmerman keeps his hair cut very short, from the court room coverage yesterday, he seems to have a pretty full head of hair on the top and back of his head. The only other explanation could be that the camera flash washed out an area of thinner hair, but the top of the head in the picture seems to be completely bald.
Now, based on everything I’ve seen so far about the case, I tend to believe Zimmerman’s account of the incident. However, I’d like more facts about the details of the origin of this picture.
The photo had GPS information embedded in it as all iphone photos do. It was taken in Sanford within minutes of the attack.
Someone here in AZ said then this would fall to the judge to make the determination on how to proceed with a trail. I kind of ignored it as he didn't make any sense.
Does anyone know what happens if we cannot assemble an untainted jury?
Personally, I believe Zimmerman has tangible damages he can sue almost every single media network for, on top of directly endangering his life.
I don't know what the final truth is on the matter, but if he is proven innocent, he will have earned the millions upon millions in settlements the likes of the leftist media will owe him.
Maybe so, but where is his hair in the pic? In the pic, the head appears completely bald above a pronounced hair line. From what I saw yesterday, he has fairly uniform hair distribution over his head. I just want the truth here.
Which means that it was taken by either the police or EMS before EMS treated him.
One would expect police arriving at the scene of a homicide to take pictures of the immediate scene and the people present so as to immediately preserve visual evidence of things like injuries, state of the victims/perps, lighting conditions, etc.

Mark Levin says that his jaw dropped when finding out that Florida state prosecutor Angela Corey left out vital evidence in her affidavit that favors Zimmerman’s side of the story, the photos of his bleeding head wounds. Corey clearly had access to all of the evidence as she pushed for a 2nd degree murder charge and still left it out. Looking at everything public to date, including Florida law, Levin says this doesn’t even come close to a 2nd degree murder case and that Angela Corey is a disgrace for pushing for it in her affidavit while leaving out vital evidence.

It’s consistent with the earlier video stills that showed the back of Zimmerman’s head. Apparently he’s got a patch of fairly thick hair on top/front and a large bald spot on the back. This is not uncommon. I don’t see much reason to doubt this new photo.
Agreed. I’m just saying, from what I’ve read, he has been a Obama supporter. Obama’s minions are using Zimmerman as an unwilling sacrifice (or means) to further their political ends. I wonder if it has changed his thinking any?
The sad thing - it could have been any one of us. Those who are using Zimmerman don’t care who they use. What makes me sick is how they have already convicted Zimmerman and are now waiting for the execution.
The incident happened well over a month ago.

The MSM and the left are liars. They used the fact a second ambulance was cancelled for Zimmerman as proof he was not injured. Guess who cancelled the second ambulance.... The first ambulance who, because Trayvon was dead, was able to move on to Zimmermans injuries.
And a big, fat F U to Obama, Holder and anyone else in the d@mn democrat party who is hiding evidence and pushing for race riots these days.
