An eyewitness says:
"It was pretty freakin' real when all the dogs started barking right before it hit, then EVERYTHING shook. We were in the field just outside the barn & the barn continued to shake for a couple minutes afterward. We are about 50-60 miles or so from where it hit."

Hour from there, Heard nothing. And yes I was awake and outside. It was Sunday getting ready for Church, no one in Church said a thing about it. We all live 40 to 60 miles from the area.

223,693.629 mph is still under the speed limit.
You know. 176,000 mps. It's not just a good idea. It's the law.

Yes. Yes I did. Sorry you missed it.
It was heavenly. In a noisy and sulphurous way (later).

Rain of Iron and Ice
by John S. Lewis
On November 27,1919, a meteorite fell into Lake Michigan near the Michigan shore. "Residents of Battle Creek, Kalamazoo, South Bend, Grand Haven, and other Western Michigan cities fled from their homes in panic, fearing an earthquake. Houses were shaken, the country was illuminated as by a bright sun's rays, so all-enveloping it was impossible to tell from which direction the flare came, the earth trembled for half a moment and then came a deep prolonged rumbling as of a terrific explosion." Sorry. I knew it was noisy, and the catz left the room, but I thought I was alone.
I should have known when the grand piano soundboard resonated that there would be repercussions. ;)
Dinner was good. Truly good. God bless that 90 year old woman that taught me the technique. And helped me learn my polite spanish.

It is good to have a well travelled chef in the house. Even if you live alone. ;)
Fires, metorite strikes, and life carries on (well) with locally shot pig and provisions out of the garden.
One must have priorities.
At Armageddon, I'll be the guy in a starched chef's jacket taking over for missing staff and personally passing trays.

You’re off by 10000 MPS.
It’s 186,000 MPS.
Just sayin’.

I never heard about that! Too bad my mom was too young at the time to remember it or I’d ask her about it. (She would turn two in three days.) We are life-long Michiganders. Perhaps it was you who posted the article that suggested that the great Chicago fire, the Peshtigo fire, and the other fires that broke out simultaneously in1871 were I fact caused by meteorite strikes? My husband and I lived in Menominee, MI for four years. It’s just up the road from Peshtigo. That fire is pretty important history to that area.

The Blob/ Scared the hell out of me. They have ‘Blobfest” in Boyertown Pa in the original movie theater that the people ran out of. They recreate the mob stampede every year.

Yah...it was a good movie for the times. It got my adrenaline going, for sure! Especially when the old man played with it. I knew then the movie was going to have less folks in it at the end than it did at the beginning!

I probably have posted that (Chicago and Peshtigo fires caused by space debris), now that you mention it. I think the author of a book about it was from Michigan.
I wish I’d asked the remaining relatives old enough to remember that year about this, but (alas) I never got around to it.
