UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has called for this summers Rio+20 summit to create a sustainable development index to replace GDP as the main measure of a countrys advancement.
Addressing a group of mayors and local government officials at the UN in New York, Ban called for an outcome from Rio+20 that is thus both practical and transformational.
We need to move beyond gross domestic product as our main measure of progress, and fashion a sustainable development index that puts people first, said Ban.
The Rio+20 event marks the 20th anniversary of the Rio Earth Summit that saw three new UN conventions established to tackle global environmental issues, namely biodiversity loss, desertification and climate change.
The agenda of the conference is still being thrashed out, however a broad scope of issues will be covered including sustainable energy and the green economy.
We expect the conference to agree on the need to launch a process to elaborate Sustainable Development Goals that build on the Millennium Development Goals, added Ban.
Energy, water, food, biodiversity, climate change adaptation, exposure to natural hazards, consumption and production patterns, social protection floors and jobs, especially for young people these are all closely linked. Our challenge is to connect the dots, so that advances on one can generate progress on others.
The original draft outcome document has ballooned from 19 pages to 278 pages following two rounds of discussions.
The draft, once complete, will form the basis of the talks in Rio.
Thats all? Our congress could have gotten in at least a thousand...
Because of all the Sercret Service whoring around, what is not mentioned in the media is
EXACTLY what did the feckless loon, Obumbles, promise in this round of talks?
Big expense account party in Rio for the usual drones
i guess we’ll have to ratify it “to find out what is in it”...?
They won't call it such, but it will be a "socialism index" and it will be constructed to make the US look like they are greatly lagging behind the rest of the world.
The "socialism index" will be a tool used to increase the power of the US federal government, which will in turn increase the power of the Democratic Party, which will thereby increase the power of the global marxists at the UN.
"Oh my God!! According to the UN sustainable development index, the US is the behind even nations like Sudan and North Korea in providing basic mental health needs, gender equity programs, freedom from guns, and douchnozzle recycling programs!!!"
CNN is probably already scripting their two-hour special to highlight the need for more federal programs to address our lagging sustainability development numbers. My wallet just jumped off the roof, rather than face the coming gang rape.
Global Warming - GONE
Climate Change - GONE
Sustainable Development - ALIVE AND WELL
Get used to hearing about SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT, the left's latest version of the same old plan to take total control of your life and destroy your wealth and liberty.
and also makes it easier to make socialism universal.
I guess all those millions of acres of Palm Oil Trees in Asia, Africa and South America will have to go.
...But they were for green diesel fuel for the rich developed countries....../snicker
