Obama makes me miss Carter.

This is the period of time that I'm thankful to God for President Bush's leadership and direction.

Yes, President Bush made some major errors in office; mostly not fighting back against the vicious assaults made on him on a daily basis, particularly in his second term.

But President Bush did alot of things right as well. He refused to sign the "Small Arms Treaty" with the marxist U.N., he refused to sign the keyoto (sp) treaty, which is 'cap and trade' in its essence. He lowered taxes, and his most lasting legacy: the appointees to the SCOTUS.

When the other Bushs are mentioned; he will never come to mind. His own mother and father distanced themselves from "George" on a Larry King show. Essentially saying that "George" is more conservative and sees things differently than them.

Yes he made errors but he did alot right. Did anyone ever doubt his love of country; his love for the military? His determination in keeping us safe? Remember how it felt to be proud? To feel secure? Remember taking our economy and our own jobs and situations for granted? Remember hearing, in all the daily media noise, that unemployment was steady around 4.5%? Remember how we rebuilt after 9-11? Not only do I miss that but as someone else on this thread said, I miss America.

I remember after the 2000 election, the common mantra by (some) the media was that the adults are back in charge. Remember that disgrace called Clinton and his trash pried all the 'W' keys from keyboards (or was it GWB keys?).

A true class act and a true leader and yes, he is missed.

but as someone else on this thread said, I miss America.

Yeah, I do too. But in November 2010, we started taking it back. This November we'll take even more of it back, and we'll continue to take it back.

I agree with you that the worst thing Bush did was not fight back against the leftists. To this day I don't think he understands that it did NOT preserve the dignity of the office, it brought us Obama and the takeover of both houses of Congress. When he didn't stand up for himself, he didn't stand up for the country.

That said, I still thank God that he was president after 9/11. He did a magnificent job. Remember his speech to Congress after the attack? Brilliant. I'll never forget that.

Absolutely! Amen. That's the main point of the OP's post, after all; I seriously doubt that trebb was trying to wall-paper over President Bush's bad decisions... but is it so very hard to admit that President Bush is a good and honourable man, and that his character (not to damn with faint praise) makes those of the presidents before and after him seem downright maggot-ridden, by comparison? God bless and keep him, and I miss him, too.

Whoops... I should have specified:

his character (not to damn with faint praise) makes those of the presidents immediately before and after him seem downright maggot-ridden

I didn't want to lump President Reagan (God rest his soul!) and others in with that bunch...

I miss Bush

I miss his character. That said, I miss neither his policies nor his political instincts, in the least.

Bush bears much blame for the election of the current occupants of the the WH.

We stayed in our little holes.

Conservatives do that too much. They tend not to fight even when the fighting is easy.

As a little aside--but sort of on the point--I was looking at Ted Nugent's Facebook fan page yesterday. We all know what he's been through lately, and what a standup guy he is, but his Facebook page has been overrun by the most vicious liberals (but I repeat myself) you've ever seen. Ten vicious, multiple-posting libs for every conservative. And when someone posts in support of Ted, it's usually one feeble post--then that poster runs off while the leftists take over again.

A bit off the wall as an example maybe, but I think it makes your point. I know conservatives are busy living adult lives and making money to pay our taxes, but jeeeez, stand up once in a while. It's like Breitbart said, the leftists took over the country while we were sleeping.

Bush was fantastic following 9/11 and was quite humble throughout both terms. He went off the rails in his final 3 years, but it’s day and night (insert racist accusation here) comparing 0bama to Bush.

Spot on Cinnamontea.

Regarding the fighting back; something else I’d like to add for consideration. Someone else mentioned that there was no Reagan fatigue when he left office and that is absolutely true.

But the reason behind that, is that President Reagan would always go directly to the American people for assistance. When congress would fight him, President Reagan would simply address the Americans on TV and phone calls from his staff requesting that we contact our various members of congress. It was very effective and we never doubted that he was literally ‘fighting’ with the maggots.

President Bush, should have fought back and he should have come directly to us instead of allowing the lies to compound. But he didn’t and that is a huge reason there was the so called ‘Bush fatigue’. He listened too much to Rove and other milquetoast limpwrists and it caused a major backlash imo.

I will be forever grateful President Bush was in office during 9/11 and that he took steps to put a structure in place to deal with Global Terrorism. However, my gratitude stops there.

He was wrong about DHS and TSA. He was wrong to allow TSA to become unionized - he was wrong in the power he allowed them to gain.

He was WRONG in not answering his Democrat critics and allowing the sheep among us to be further polluted with Democrat Media Lies. He was wrong about compassionate conservatism and about believing there is honor and good in Democrats - that he could work with them to better this country - he was just plain wrong!

He concentrated on protection from Islamists from without, and he neglected the real danger from the Islamists, Democrats, Socialists, Communists and perverts from within. He was just plain wrong.

NAILED IT!

I came away with that same sense after reading cheney’s : “In My Time: A Personal and Political Memoir.”

Pres. Bush moved away from cheney and to Condi et al. in his 2nd term.

Which is why I cannot stand the Freepers around here who keep touting their push for another 4 years of Obama due to their contempt for Romney.

Comparatively speaking, it is ROMNEY who will do a better job with our Soldiers and Marines, and our National Security as well.

To see Americans stand idly by as a Kenyan communist continues to destroy our Defense Department is making me physically ill.

Regardless of how some might feel about his policies, and their lack of conservative principal, W is a good man.

Regardless, he should have stuck with baseball and stayed out of politics. A lot of what's wrong with this country today is because of him, his GOP-e family, and his GOP-e friends.

No, none of us asked for the job, and got the job, of being the titular head of the conservative party. And make no mistake, Bush asked for the job and promised to lead as a conservative. For that, he and he alone is to blame.

Sure, voters were part of the problem, but when you ask for the top job and get it, you are demanding credit/blame as it falls out.

But you are mixing apples and oranges when you lump the MSM in with the blame. The MSM never asked to lead us. They never told us they were conservative. The damage they did was not the damage of a weak leader, because they were never our leader. The damage Bush did was the damage that can only be self applied. He self applied it and Obama is the stain we all got as a result.

“Pres. Bush moved away from cheney and to Condi et al. in his 2nd term.”

I would also include the complete ascendancy of Rove during this time as part of the problem.

As far as Ms Rice, numerous people have told me there was a lot more to that story!

One of the big weakness of the the GWB Presidency was succession. While I would gladly accept Cheney as dictator for life, everyone realized he was simply too old and too ill to run for president. I have heard from several sources that the plan was for Condi to become Sec of State during the second term. After the mid term elections, Dick C would be too “sick” to continue and Ms Rice would become VP. This would set up the nightmare scenario for the democraps in 2008 when they would have to run against a woman, and and African American. Unfortunately the democraps succeeded in roughing up Ms Rice during her confirmation hearings, and she decided she was through with politics.

Even if that scenario had held, I still have some mixed feelings. Ms Rice is dead on conservative on some things (2nd amendment for one) but also has some other screw-ball notions. Of course, we are all going to have to hold our nose and vote for mittens, and she is virtually Rambo by comparison.

One thing is for sure - we ended up with a lame duck president AND a lame duck vice president. Nobody was running for anything, so nobody did anything to defend the administration. And that did make it easier for the democraps and zero to win.

I’m not sure of your point. Is your point that Obama is worse than Bush? Well of course. No one is arguing that, at least not me.

But if your point is that you refuse to understand Bush’s flaws and his weakness and his misguided notion of leadership and how all of that set the table for Obama, then you are refusing to deal with events as they are. Bush’s New Tone and McCain’s reach across the aisle capitulation are EXACTLY THE SAME THING and they gave us Obama.

It’s your right to not understand that because of some kind of nicey nicey that you have projected onto a man you do not know - but I do not recommend exercising that particular right.

You nailed it with the Rove ascension.

You will like this about Rove (and somewhat about Bush)
