In 2011, death row inmate Abdul Awkal sued an Ohio prison because he was receiving non-halal food while in prison. As a consequence, the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction banned all pork products in prison.
This year, prisoner James Rivers filed a lawsuit arguing that pork should not be outright banned. He reasoned that, should Muslims not want to eat pork, they had the right to, but that it was discriminatory to ban pork for everyone. Additionally, the prison did offer meals without pork products in them before the ban.
To reinforce Rivers's lawsuit, prison authorities argued that the change to all-halal food could potentially "bankrupt the system." Despite all of this, a federal judge has thrown out Rivers's case, refusing to even hear it in court.
The judge stated that forcing non-Muslims to adhere to a Muslim diet is not the establishment of a religion because everyone eats the same food. He did not comment on the fact that, before the lawsuit by Awkal, all prisoners ate the same food in the first place.

Separate quarters for shar’ia compliant prisoners. Make sure they have relatively easy access to various utensils (spoons, screwdrivers, table knives, etc.) that can be sharpened and used as a shiv. Loose housing, no cell confinements, deposit whatever food they are to have for the day at a secure drop point, let them prepare and/or divide it up as they agree among themselves. Make sure there are absolutely no weak points (along waste disposal pipes or incoming plumbing, for example) where they could wriggle out. Prison guards are in no instance to ever enter the confinement area, even to retrieve a corpse. The tops of all wall will be secured with the most reliable technology known to prevent any escape attempts over the walls, and the ground beneath will be scanned with “downward-looking” radar to detect any attempts to burrow out. Prisoners are held accountable for any repairs to damaged facilities, and undertake the work themselves unsupervised.
And no pardons or commutation of sentences, ever. Rather like trapping alligators. Alligators are NEVER rehabilitated.

Abdul Awkul was not muslim when he went in. Almost certainly the NOI recruited him in the joint.

I got a feeling he’ll be getting plenty of ‘Pork’, if you know what I mean.
Does that mean that all of the prisoners will be denied food and water from sunup to sundown during Ramadan?
