The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is inviting public comments on its new rule regarding shotguns. It plans to ban them.
There will be a ban on imports. (Note: watch prices rise on those already in the USA.)
The basis of this ban will be the guns’ semi-automatic status. It the magazine has more than five rounds, the weapon will be banned.
Why? Because the BATF designates these as “military.”
Somehow, I cannot see Sergeant York with a 7-round shotgun taking on the Germans.
Gen. George Patton wore ivory-handled revolvers. I wonder if these are scheduled for a ban.
The guns must be used in sport, only.
Yet there are shooting competitions involving held by national shooting clubs.
Dudley Brown, Executive Director of Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, said if the ATF succeeds with the banning of tactical shotguns it “will be the most dangerous interpretation of the 1968 Gun Control Act ever envisioned and will outlaw thousands of perfectly legitimate home defense shotguns.”

Who knows? I carried my .22 rifle through the halls of my High School, because the range was in the basement. Nobody said a thing. That was the mid-70’s.

Make Constitutional Carry legal for all States.
Repeal parts of the National Firearms Law of 1934 so we can legally own full-auto firearms again just like the Swiss do today.

I believe you mean a Winchester Model 1897 rather than 98. A John M. Browning design BTW.
I have an 1887 Winchester lever operated 12 gauge, also designed by Browning.
Does the BATF have any shotguns with more thatn 5 round magazines? If so, what’s a civilian agency doing with “military” weapons?
Both the 1887 lever gun and the 1897 pump are used today for Cowboy Action shooting and new replicas are currently made by Norinco.
I must have missed the “military arms exclusion” in the 2nd Amendment. So I wonder what the ATF thinks of my military rifles...

You’re probably right. The gun was given to me by my father, and I’m going from memory from when I looked up the history of it a while ago.
