I'm increasingly convinced that the Washington press corps suffers from histrionic personality disorder. For much of the first half of 2012, the stories coming out of the nation's capital were generally about the weakness of the Republican presidential field, Mitt Romney's difficulty securing his base, President Obama's burgeoning lead, and the economy finally gaining steam. Conventional wisdom seemed to have congealed around the idea that Obama was an almost-heavy favorite for re-election over the hapless Romney. Intrade scored his re-election odds at upwards of 60 percent.
(snip) Even though the economy is not going at full steam ahead, neither is it contracting (at least not yet). It looks as if Europe may hold together long enough that its seemingly inevitable collapse wont be fully felt here until after the election. And most importantly, people dont blame the president for the state of the economy. This really is a unique circumstance; weve never had a situation of lengthy economic turmoil that clearly began before the incumbent took office and then failed to make substantial progress over the ensuing four years. In other words, the traditional relationships between the economy and a presidential re-election effort might not hold.
(snip) The good news for him (Obama) is that this year, unlike 2010, the Democrats have a pretty good argument as well (losing control of the House was the best thing to happen to them in this regard), and it will only be a matter of time before Romney commits some cringe-inducing gaffe that leaves a mark of its own.

Just wait another 4 to 6 weeks. Then panick time. Because Team Obama is out of gimmicks and free gifts to bribe votes.
The only thing I can think of (barring any disaster) is SCOTUS strikes down ObamaCare, then president Obama might stroke their base.
Yeah, let ‘em panic. Who cares? It couldn’t hurt our cause.
I heard Obama telling an audience that he is going to give them $3,000 each if he is re-elected
That is not as good as paying them to go vote, but it is close
Wellll, maybe... but the base is all out of money and steam. They blew their wad last winter with those stupid, stupid occupy wallstreet "live-ins". Remember all the hype about, "I won't have to worry about my mortgage or car payments" and the Obama stash money being handed out. Those people got nuthin, maybe one hit off the crack pipe, but that was it, dey got nuthin...
I dont think our side should assume “we win”. The voters scare the shiola out of me. Ive never seen such a fickle bunch of folks. This is gonna be a battle royale!!!
It’s the same crew who pretend the planet is too warm, men become women through surgery, the women can become fearsome warriors by Exexutive Order, and that islam is religion of peace.
It is not just the economy why we want him out - it is a long litany of things. It is deception when they say it is the economy but since that is affecting everyone - people aren’t watching/don’t care what else he is doing. How many know what he is doing everyday that they are not aware as our freedoms, safety, place in world are being jeopardized - deliberately ignoring the law of the land.
Someone pointed out something that I had never considered. There has never been a President re-elected with less support than the first time he was elected. I am assuming this applies to the percentage of support, rather than raw numbers.
Under this scenario and current economic conditions, I cannot see Obama being re-elected.
Obungler is gonna get his 43% not one percent more.
All those die hard working class Democrats that have supported this idiot in 08 have had their retirements raped (GM Deal) their 401k and TSAs vanished and the national debt skyrocket.
They won’t support him again. Carter cost people big and he paid for it in 80. He’s toast, unfortunately we will not improve much with (Rino)Romney at the helm.
Bribery! Has mitt come out and called it what it is? They need to know and would believe it.
It’ll be panic time next Monday or next Thursday, but the fear is setting in.
I’ve no doubt that there are a lot of quiet, backroom conversations going on. Things are unraveling. Next week we will have two major supreme court decisions and a full house vote of contempt on the attorney general of the United States.
Meanwhile, Romney is squeaky clean and has not been weakened in any way and all his issues (that we know of) have been vetted in the primaries. Whatever surprises the democrats have up their sleeves may have to be used early.
Obama might even be practicing his prime time speech as we write right now.
I agree with your premise, the speech the knowledge of the court decisions, but reality has a way of sucking some time. Next week will be one of those moments, mark my words, next week is the beginning of the end.
“Has mitt come out and called it what it is?”
Mittens might not want to remind people of his own bribery caper with Paul Ryan at Cousins Sub in Milwaukee: Operation Sub-Gate!
Ken Doll handing out free sandwiches to prospective voters three days before the primary.
Rick Santorum was going to win Wisconsin. The RNC panicked.
And let's not forget those who count the votes.
;-)
Let’s hope so.
