Vanity

Posted on 07/20/2012 11:02:14 AM PDT by Errant

Asking yourself why no concealed carry permit holder was present to stop the shooter? Maybe this is why:

Aurora, Co
1. "Dangerous weapon" includes firearm
2. Revocation of license for furnishing a firearm to a minor or someone under the influence.
3. Window displays cannot include firearms with barrels less than 12 inches long.
4. Unlawful to carry concealed "dangerous weapon"
5. Unlawful to discharge firearms, unless by law enforcement on duty or on shooting range.
6. Unlawful to possess firearm while under the influence of intoxicant
7. Unlawful to have loaded firearm in motor vehicle.
8. Unlawful for a juvenile to possess a firearm.

From your link:

In 2003, the state legislature and the governor deemed that the power to address gun violence in Colorado through laws SHALL NOT be in the domain of the affected communities,
rather it should rest only in the hands of the state. By this legislation (SB03-25),
all of the ordinances on this list have been declared unenforceable.

What you quoted was simply Aurora claiming no concealed carry without a permit, however, State law provides for concealed carry, even in Denver, State parks, etc.

Colorado has one of the best concealed carry laws around in that outside of schools we can carry in bars, parks, cars, etc., and anywhere private property owners do not state no guns allowed. This theater, it appears, does not allow concealed carry.

Also, this is a major mall for gang activity. They have been fighting it for 20 years. They just spent millions refurbishing it and trying to get rid of the gangs.

Obviously, whoever is responsible for these laws, both wanted it to happen and planned for it to happen!

Would a CCW have helped? I dont know. What I do know that It would have been better than a bunch of unarmed targets running around while this Douchebag riddles them with bullets.
A old saying” One man taking one well placed shot can change history” comes to mind.
When A moron becomes unhinged, there isnt a thing anyone can do if his mind is set on killing. But maybe one armed citizen could have saved one life.
Prayers to the families of those killed and wounded. the pain they must be feeling is beyond imagination.

The question we should be asking is...

Where ccw allowed in the theater? Or did they have one of those NO GUNS ALLOWED signs on the door?

Cuz we all know. Criminals check their guns when they see those signs /s

Errant, state law overrules this municipal statute. Licensed carriers may carry concealed in CO. If the theater has a sign posted saying No Firearms, then it is not legal to carry in the theater.

Cinemark theaters do NOT allow firearms, even legal ones, on their premises.

“USA morphs into Israel before our very eyes.”

? I’ve been to Israel one time, but everyone there seemed to be armed.

Good thing they had those laws. Now this guy can be charged with violating all of those. Plus killing 12 people. (sarc)

Luby’s was a scary event. One good thing that came from it was it helped strat the concealed carry campaign.

I carry even when they post not to. The only thing they can do if they find out is ask me to leave and I would. However, I also would never go to any place this dangerous. This area of Aurora is a sh*thole to say the least. It gives me the creeps just to go there. I have several places there I have to go but I can’t wait to get out. It was my old stomping ground 25 years ago but even then it wasn’t my favorite place. It is a middle income kind of place overall but it also has all kinds of problems. The outer areas of Aurora are nice neighborhoods as they are new and upscale, however, the interior looks normal but has a very high crime rate.

Permits and legislation are a lot like restraining orders. They’re pieces of paper. Women with restraining orders are killed all the time since pieces of paper don’t protect anybody.

All the gun permits in the nation are utterly useless since we already have laws against murder. Pieces of paper don’t stop crazies, or hired assassins from acquiring guns or other dangerous weapons.

Willingness to obey laws of any kind are in the mind. Pieces of paper aren’t going to change that.

Where in the world did this guy even get teargas? Is it that easy to make from the kitchen cupboard?

If guns and other weapons ceased to exist, there will always be somebody willing to invent and create a weapon out of something.

Yes, prosecute the man/woman who did the deed but you don’t take down the nation when one violates freedom.

i suspect more ccw folks will start to carry in these areas anyway, just very discreetly. doesn’t help to have it in the glove box at a time like this.
unfortunately in our current leagl system, judged by 12 may be worse than carried by 6.

You have to blame the movie theater on this one. They are the ones who turned their audience into a defenseless shooting zone.

When not considered concealed ...

“Colorado allows a person to carry a firearm in a vehicle, loaded or unloaded, if its use is for lawful protection of such person or another’s person or property. [C.R.S. 18-12-105(2)] Colorado law also allows a person to possess a handgun in a dwelling, place of business, or automobile.”
