The reviews continue to pour in on Clint Eastwoods appearance at the Republican National convention Thursday night, and "mixed" might be a charitable way to put it. One prominent Republican, Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin, said that he "cringed" at the performance.
An unattributed release from the Romney campaign defended Eastwood, according to The Wall Street Journal: "Judging an American icon like Clint Eastwood through a typical political lens doesnt work. His ad-libbing was a break from all the political speeches, and the crowd enjoyed it, the statement read.

An empty chair has now become the symbol of the Obama presidency. Not too bad, Clint. Not too bad.
No, he finally gave Romney what he didn’t have—relevance.
Eastwood was the sage truthsayer. In this case it took an old man to say that the emperor had no clothes.
The Demoncrats want us to worship their "dear leader", as people in third world countries so often do. Eastwood, a mere man capable of being at once "good, bad and ugly", showed us that there is only One Person who deserves to be worshiped, and He does not "sit" in the Oval Office!
Romney, I believe, cares not a whit about being "worshiped"; but he does want to do what we elect a President to do: Lead!
My prayer--earnest and heartfelt--is that God give him that opportunity, instead of the "naked emperor" and "empty suit" who currently occupies that Office.
If I knew how, I’d post a picture of an empty chair. That banner has to keep flying. Clint was awesome! The MSM is stuck between screaming about a Hollywood insider or protecting their precious little baby-boy O. Loving it!
Plus, has anyone noticed that Clint doesn’t feel the need to get in the middle of the media’s whine-fest to “clarify” anything? In fact, I’m not sure any media-bots have even approached him...
I enjoyed the speech, because it wasn’t your usual political nonsense your used to hearing, it was something straight from the heart, no script, just straight talk..and the chair routine was HILARIOUS because it described Obama perfectly, an empty chair = empty suit, it was GREAT
Only a few million people watched the convention. OTOH millions are hearing the messages from Clint via Youtubes, twitters etc. Such statements as: “24 million people out of jobs”, and “When somebody can’t do the job we gotta let ‘em go” or “You don’t have to vote for somebody just because..”
So you see, this is really a very good thing in the end. All the media talking about Clint instead of destroying Romney. Meanwhile Mitt is going to Louisiana and Obama is in a panic having to follow him.
And now we have tons of different pics of chairs to associate with dear leader. Maybe there will be a first prize for the best invisible prez in the chair.
The way things are going, I would not be surprised if Romney is our President the following election morning. I would not be surprised if Obama gets a second term. It is such a weird time for America. I mean after 2008, nothing surprises me. We have had 3 very weird election cycles (Presidency). Gore almost winning 2000, Kerry getting uncomfortably close and Obama actually winning. Three very weak Democratic people and they won or almost won. We are living in a very weird time.
You are absolutely right. One of my prayers has been that after Obama is defeated, he would never again have a platform from which to spread his evil ideas. Public humiliation and making him the laughingstock of American politics is very effective.
Bingo. You are so right.
If ONLY he had been talking to a propped up empty suit!
No, speaking in primetime before Romney was the prime spot, and it only amplified Clint’s message. Perfect.
Clint ROCKED and he also made the democrats MAD!
He hit a GRAND SLAM!
Even the Marxist had to reply with his own idiot tweet...LOLOLOL.
from people who don’t matter...
These same people were/and still are drooling over Obama. Big Fn’ deal.
SNL will come to the rescue of the Obama goons. And that concerns me. I do relish seeing a reenactment of Clint, however, cuz they’ll make fools of themselves trying.
When Clint took to the stage... Yoda said, “Strong in this one... the testosterone is”.
Some of you anti-Romney folks are really sore losers. In that department, you put even Al Gore to shame.
You couldn’t hack it by finding a decent candidate to run against Romney, and now you want to blame everyone else for your own failure. And in that department, you put even Obama to shame.
Too funny and you are absolutely right.
Your “shtick” is becoming very old, falling—I suspect—on a a bunch of empty seats.
Yeah I saw that tweet..funny coming from a guy who supposedly said he was NOT watching the Convention but just had to tweet about what an 82 year old actor said. You want to know why the left is so pissed off, because SOMEONE dared to say the truth about their empty chair in chief..dems hate it when someone trashes their commie messiah. God Bless Clint for having the balls to tell it like it is
Ditto that ... I also thought that his hesitancy and stuttering (affected?) was a mock of Obama who can't give a coherent speech without the teleprompter. Good job, Clint!!
I think great performances have those moments. I remember Jimmy Stewart on Carson and he would take forever to tell a funny/touching story. It’s an emotional journey that is part of the skill.
Devastating visual for Obama, I thought.
Dittos to you and your comments. Clint said in plain speak what the undecided voters need to know. Mitt followed on with additional points that people should understand. The voters were happy when they voted Barry in, after that, not so much. We want our country back and these people work for us, not the other way around.
It's exquisitely packaged and would make a lovely gift for that special someone in your life. Available at Walmart, Amazon, and fine stores everywhere.
The empty chair wit a Teleprompter to represent the Empty Suit Obama, How great is that?
I can’t wait till Romney ridicules zero to his face in a debate.
You nailed it, Hattie. Great post!
My dumb @ss brother calls me this morning at 6am to ask if I saw Clint speak. I says, “Yeah, why?” He says, “It was terrible. You should have heard what Billy Crystal said about it!” I says, “First off, Billy Crystal is an idiot, and for that matter so are you if you didn’t understand what Clint was doing. He was mimicking the Jimmy Stewart character in Harvey?” He says, “I don’t care if he was mimicking Ernest Borgnine. It was terrible.” I says, “Then you’re an idiot for sure.” Sounds like Walker didn’t understand the backdrop either.
A lot more people can relate to Clint Eastwood than they can anything they see coming out of the two “Political Conventions”. Eastwood was great and he was funny and accurate.
The visuals were terrific. Talking to “the empty chair” was fantastic. It apparently got to the thin skinned Kenyan so it was very effective.
You want to rate Clint’s speech? Look no further than howling level of the left, Obungo and the mainstream media.
Way to go Clint!!!
You have a point. However, consider how many people didn’t watch the convention, but are hearing the buzz about Clint’s speech, and now will go and watch the clip on the internet?
They may not hear or see Romney, but they sure as hell will get the message Clint portrayed. And looking at who Mitt is, is just as important, as realizing how BAD Obama is, in this election, IMO.
EASTWOOD: Thank you very much. Thank you. Thank you
very much. Save a little for Mitt.
I know what you are thinking. You are thinking, what’s a
movie tradesman doing out here? You know they are all left
wingers out there, left of Lenin. At least that is what people
think. That is not really the case. There are a lot of
conservative people, a lot of moderate people, Republicans,
Democrats, in Hollywood. It is just that the conservative
people by the nature of the word itself play closer to the vest.
They do not go around hot dogging it.
So — but they are there, believe me, they are there. I
just think, in fact, some of them around town, I saw John Voigt,
a lot of people around.
John’s here, an academy award winner. A terrific guy.
These people are all like-minded, like all of us.
So I — so I’ve got Mr. Obama sitting here. And he’s — I
was going to ask him a couple of questions. But — you know
about — I remember three and a half years ago, when Mr. Obama
won the election. And though I was not a big supporter, I was
watching that night when he was having that thing and they were
talking about hope and change and they were talking about, yes
we can, and it was dark outdoors, and it was nice, and people
were lighting candles.
They were saying, I just thought, this was great.
Everybody is trying, Oprah was crying.
I was even crying. And then finally — and I
cried that hard since I found out that there is 23 million
people in this country.
Now that is something to cry for because that is a
national disgrace, and we haven’t done enough, obviously — this
administration hasn’t done enough to cure that. Whenever
they have is not strong enough, and I think possibly now it may
time for somebody else to come along and solve the problem.
So, Mr. President, how do you handle promises that you have
when you were running for election, and how do you handle them?
I mean, what do you say to people? Do you just — you know
know — people were wondering — you don’t — handle that OK.
know even people in your own party were very disappointed when
didn’t close Gitmo. And I thought, well closing Gitmo — why
that, we spent so much money on it. But, I thought maybe as an
— what do you mean shut up?
OK, I thought maybe it was just because somebody had the
idea of trying terrorists in downtown New York City.
I’ve got to to hand it to you. I have to give credit where
credit is due. You did finally overrule that finally. And
now we are moving onward. I know you were against the war in
and that’s okay. But you thought the war in Afghanistan was OK.
know, I mean — you thought that was something worth doing. We
check with the Russians to see how did it — they did there for
But we did it, and it is something to be thought about, and
think that, when we get to maybe — I think you’ve mentioned
something about having a target date for bringing everybody
gave that target date, and I think Mr. Romney asked the only
question, you know, he says, ``Why are you giving the date out
Why don’t you just bring them home tomorrow morning?’’
And I thought — I thought, yeah — I am not going to shut
is my turn.
So anyway, we’re going to have — we’re going to have to
little chat about that. And then, I just wondered, all these
— I wondered about when the — what do you want me to tell
can’t tell him to do that. I can’t tell him to do that to
You’re crazy, you’re absolutely crazy. You’re getting as
Of course we all now Biden is the intellect of the
Kind of a grin with a body behind it.
But I just think that there is so much to be done, and I
that Mr. Romney and Mr. Ryan are two guys that can come along.
never thought it was a good idea for attorneys to the president,
I think attorneys are so busy — you know they’re always
to argue everything, and always weight everything — weigh both
XXX I think attorneys are so busy — you know they’re
always taught to argue everything, always weigh everything,
weigh both sides.
EASTWOOD: They are always devil’s advocating this and
bifurcating this and bifurcating that. You know all that stuff.
But, I think it is maybe time — what do you think — for maybe
a businessman. How about that?
A stellar businessman. Quote, unquote, ``a stellar
And I think it’s that time. And I think if you just step
aside and Mr. Romney can kind of take over. You can maybe still
use a plane.
Though maybe a smaller one. Not that big gas guzzler you
are going around to colleges and talking about student loans and
stuff like that.
You are an — an ecological man. Why would you want to
drive that around?
OK, well anyway. All right, I’m sorry. I can’t do that to
I would just like to say something, ladies and gentlemen.
Something that I think is very important. It is that, you, we
— we own this country.
We — we own it. It is not you owning it, and not
politicians owning it. Politicians are employees of ours.
And — so — they are just going to come around and beg
for votes every few years. It is the same old deal. But I just
think it is important that you realize , that you’re the best in
the world. Whether you are a Democrat or Republican or whether
you’re libertarian or whatever, you are the best. And we should
not ever forget that. And when somebody does not do the job, we
got to let them go.
Okay, just remember that. And I’m speaking out for
everybody out there. It doesn’t hurt, we don’t have to be
(AUDIENCE MEMBER): (inaudible)
I do not say that word anymore. Well, maybe one last time.
We don’t have to be — what I’m saying, we do not have to
be metal (ph) masochists and vote for somebody that we don’t
really even want in office just because they seem to be nice
guys or maybe not so nice guys, if you look at some of the
recent ads going out there, I don’t know.
But OK. You want to make my day?
All right. I started, you finish it. Go ahead.
AUDIENCE: Make my day!
EASTWOOD: Thank you. Thank you very much.
“Clint Eastwood delivers his carefully crafted
monologue to the Empty Chair...”
Great pic, thanks
The Romney-Ryan press release says it quite well.
Look, what Eastwood did is TAME TAME TAME compared to the comments made by Obamugabe’s Hollywood friends and Bill Clinton’s friends.
So the media and all the handwringers on the left can shove it. Hard and deep. Then turn left and twist.
He took the air out of Mitt's speech?
Did you happen to notice that Clint did far worse to Obama?
Around MA, the term empty suit has been used for Romney. Just sayin’
“Extreme criticism?...LOL! Clint cracked the democratic coconuts wide open!”
Another great pic!! thanks
You made some excellent points. I guess I am just mad because Romney started talking at 1050 or so and I was exhausted. I heard 15 minutes and fell asleep. I thought that Clint’s performance could have been earlier in the night....I thought Rubio talked forever (did he speak earlier?) and the Main person I wanted to hear from I didn’t. It pissed me off a little. That is my whole truth about last night.
I think if the people watching knew he was using the Jimmy Stewart character in Harvey they’d enjoy it. The more I’ve watch it the better.
You're giving yourself away...ALL democrats are weak (and cult's don't deserve capitalization).
Clint Eastwood addresses TOTUS and COTUS
You’re giving yourself away...ALL democrats are weak (and cult’s don’t deserve capitalization).
God what an idiot. You say all Democrats (Proper noun you dofus) are weak...Well if you learned to read a post, I was talking about the 3 last Democratic Presidential Nominees. God why do we have stupid people on Free Republic?
Which is why I continue to believe he was a plant who trolled all of us.
Now I wish I had watched.
You are wrong if you think Romney and Obamugabe are the same. They’re not the same.
Jimmy Stewart with the invisible 6 foot tall rabbit Harvey
Clint Eastwood interviewing the invisible Obama
Which is why I continue to believe he was a plant who trolled all of us.
Yep. It is amazing how some liberal FREEPERS get behind the strangest people. They loved the “I am a Witch” person until they didn’t. They loved Joe the Plumber until he didn’t show up for one of McCain’s events and made McCain look like an idiot. Anne Coulter used to be a star around here now she is vilified because she wanted Romney....Hold the phone....Romney was chosen and now the FREEPERS demand lockstep force voting for Romney. There are numerous examples. They didn’t like Clint Eastwood until they did...the gay marriage support threads that Clint Eastwood believes are incredible...plus clint believes in killing babies no matter what. One thing for sure....principles went out the window in 2012.
