The reviews continue to pour in on Clint Eastwoods appearance at the Republican National convention Thursday night, and "mixed" might be a charitable way to put it. One prominent Republican, Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin, said that he "cringed" at the performance.
An unattributed release from the Romney campaign defended Eastwood, according to The Wall Street Journal: "Judging an American icon like Clint Eastwood through a typical political lens doesnt work. His ad-libbing was a break from all the political speeches, and the crowd enjoyed it, the statement read.

Compared to Romney’s typically stiff, scripted, emotionally vacant and awkward speech, Eastwood’s routine was a welcome bit of relaxed, playful zaniness. The stiff country-club Republicans that walk around with sticks up their butts should shut up and let us enjoy something since it’s their fault we’re stuck with the Romulan as a candidate. The libs are only criticizing Eastwood because he wasn’t doing this for their side. They’d be cheering him on, calling him an icon and praising him for poking fun at himself if he had delivered the exact same speech at the DNC about Bush.
I think FR is being flooded by Romney bots... They have one thing in common the like to call people names and love the establishment coolaid.
May I offer that I am not a republican therefor I had no candidate in this charade. The first Nixon then Bush 1 drove me out of the party and the second Bush confirmed that any liberty loving American is nuts to put their hope in a party that is just another flavor of statist.
Pray tell what has your beloved republican statist done to preserve our country, liberty or to honor the constitution... NOTHING. Instead they have grown government expanded dependency, depressed liberty and basically crapped on the constitution all the while pretending to be on “our” side.
There is no point in discussing the dems... commies and perverts are commies and perverts. What makes the Republicans so disgusting is they run around behind a facade of patriotism proclaiming love of country and liberty and they are just short of the democrats when it comes to the destruction of this country and our individual sovereignty and liberty.
I did my duty and fought for this country only to see it becoming the thing I fought against. And all you happy cool-aid drinking frogs are comfy in your little republican establishment pots wondering why it seems to be getting a little warm...
I am not the looser here, the american people are regardless who wins.
PS I am happy to shame Obama any time I can.
LOL.. Boy are you delusional!! Also, do you think the nominating process is over yet? or is Mitt’s nomination still up in the air?
That is absolutely correct.
You know he hit it out of the park when the left is running around screaming “He struck out!”
Couldn’t agree more!
BTTT
No I know we are stuck with a liberal on both sides of the political spectrum. I will vote for Romney but I think it is tragic that the Republican party has gone so far down the tubes with probably zero way of getting back.
Walker’s personality seems about as stiff as you can get. He’s definitely the “Felix” half of the Odd Couple. And he seems to have about as much trouble cracking a smile as Tommy Lee Jones in Men in Black. I guess it’s good that he’s as serious and business-minded as he is in his job as governor. But he doesn’t appear to have much of a sense of humor.
I won’t be surprised if the left starts talking about how Clint played a racist in GRAN TORINO. And they’ll say he was apparently playing himself. They’re so predictable.
“Your shtick is becoming very old, fallingI suspecton a a bunch of empty seats.”
That was a well reasoned argument... good job
Didn’t take me a quarter second to get it. By the way, your fingerprints are all over that picture. Lol.
Glad you admit you believe in the myth of a strong democrat...kind of like a tall dwarf huh? And if you are going to engage in name-calling, at least be good at it. That was pretty lame.
I noticed the prints when I posted it. It would be fascinating to find out whose they are...Possibly the guy who took it...
Oh Dear Lord! This is just too funny!
Clint’s teleprompter stopped working, he did that off the cuff.
Where’ve you been? Sleeping for the past 80 years? Ronald Reagan is too far to the left for people like you.
Yeah, and Michael Moore and Spiked Lee are respectable spokesmen of the donkey party...
I didn't know this until this morning. I actually thought that Clint was 'mocking' Obama, by talking like Obama talks without a teleprompter. Which I think the liberals thought the same thing.... Not only was the empty chair perfect, but the speaking part sounds just like Obama without his teleprompter.
Thank you, Clint Eastwood!!! Like rogue, rough, tough General Daniel Morgan of Revolutionary War, “Cow Pens” battle fame, Clint loves America!!! God bless you Mr. Eastwood!!! I have loved your films for many years, especially, “The Outlaw Josey Wales”, and, “The Unforgiven”. Me, a tough old NY street kid, who punched back when unjustly hit, cried like a baby last night. You are a true American hero!!!
The libs are angry because Clint said Biden was the intellect of the democrat party...
I want that owl!
Sorry, the owl is my muse. How about a turtle instead? I have two.
Like him or not Romney has yet to make a mistake. Even walking in down the aisle last night instead of across the stage was intentional. Looked like he was coming in for a state of the union address as PRESIDENT. Having an elderly icon on stage was no accident. Lack of a “soaring” speech was no accident. People gave a speech reader their votes once. If you are unemployed do you want to be moved by fancy words or do you want a job? Ryan mentioned medicare first. He said basically bring it on. They are defining this campaign not Obama. Start watching the intentionality and thought that this campaign is showing. He isn't chasing Obama. He is acting like a president and mentioning issues on his agenda not Obama’s.
“It was levity. And in itself, powerful. A little awkward, but we knew Eastwood is a powerful actor, and could tone it up if he needed to. But he didnt need to.”
Agreed. I wasn’t sure where it was going at first, or if it was going to get anywhere at all. Then it built, and built, and was funny as hell, ending at a crescendo. Perhaps the first laugh I’ve had in this political season.
I was a bit sad to see him look so old, but that is what happens with those who are tough enough to survive.
It was good, and left wing yelps of pain prove that it was effective.
I didn’t see that the chair had its own teleprompter. This whole Eastwood skit gets better and better! I loved it and I am still laughing today when I recall certain parts of it.
We all know he is the intellect of the Democratic Party.
A face with a grinning mouth.
“A chair and a teleprompter walk into a bar”
———use your imagination!
That’s nothing. Next week an empty suit will use 2 teleprompters to speak to the Democrat Convention.
-——I was a bit sad to see him look so old———
You can’t really what you saw. The man is an actor, a great actor and a director, a great director. He knows about performing and setting up the performance. He knows about being a character, of making everything up.
What he did was to provide classic Shakespearean comic relief. It was all a terrific bit of writing, acting and directing.
Well you can’t curse so this is the most you can do. Anyway that guy or girl I was speaking to is a nasty human being.
So you’ve removed yourself from the game.
Hows that working out for you? Are the things important to you progressing well?
If you don’t play the game you can’t win. The left is trying to make people stay home and not vote.
Eastwood has created a new image of Obama, the estute comedians are going to pick up on this and go with it.
I thought Clint was great. I watched MSNBC after Eastwood spoke, just to see their reaction, and it was great. Rachel Maddow threw a fit attacking Eastwood, calling him a senile old man. Stay classy, Rach.
Whereve you been? Sleeping for the past 80 years? Ronald Reagan is too far to the left for people like you.
Who knows...You think I am old enough for Ronald Reagan? good Lord. Anyway since I have been able to vote, we have nominated Dole, McCain, Romney. Aren’t I lucky to have this group of losers.
The visions of the empty chair are all over the internet now.
Clint opened the door for a whole lot of new fun.
This is why the O idiots are so ticked off. O hates ridicule.
Clint Alinskyed Odoofus.
LOL!
It’s okay, I left it on the front porch for you. Pick it up any time.
Narcissistic personalities don't hold up well to being laughed at. If anything will make Obama crack, it's being laughed at and mocked.
The Dems know it, and that's why they freak out so hard.
I just watch the Eastwood speech again.
Masterful!!
He is one sharp man, very intelligent.
No wonder the dems and the dimwits are freaking out!
LOL
LOL...maybe Eastwood flew in on a Trump plane.
I’m a political junkie, but I find most politicians’ speeches annoying and condescending. The art of giving an engaging speech is lost, in my humble opinion.
-I was a bit sad to see him look so old
Part of being old is the inevitable aging process but the alternative is not desirable!
As long as Mr. Clint Eastwood lives and enjoys life and doing his great work, God Bless him and all those like him.
By the way he helps in composing music for some of his movies including “Unforgiven”! He is a self taught pianist and loves Jazz!
I didn’t watch the convention proper, but I caught part of CNN’s roundtable discussion afterwards and Piers Morgan was really going after Clint for the empty-chair thing. And I was thinking, “You piece of crap. You just did the same kind of thing when Todd Akin cancelled on you.” And let’s be kind. I think Akin’s nowhere near as indispensable as the fan club on FR thinks he is. I just found that, coming from Piers, a bit much to take.
Clint to Obummer: A man’s got to know his limitations...
That is Exactly how it's been all day today w/ every person at my work.
