Clint Eastwood's Convention Schtick Draws Extreme Criticism
Nationaljournal ^

The reviews continue to pour in on Clint Eastwood’s appearance at the Republican National convention Thursday night, and "mixed" might be a charitable way to put it. One prominent Republican, Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin, said that he "cringed" at the performance.

An unattributed release from the Romney campaign defended Eastwood, according to The Wall Street Journal: "Judging an American icon like Clint Eastwood through a typical political lens doesn’t work. His ad-libbing was a break from all the political speeches, and the crowd enjoyed it,” the statement read.

Clint was Clint, and that was perfect.

He didn’t grandstand the way Liberal actors do.

“. He TOTALLY took the air out of Romney’s speech and anything else Romney.”

How so? He was there supporting Romney. Romney isn’t shooting for the cult like following that BO did.

Not true. And besides, I kind of like that they can't shut up about Clint. That just means more Independents will know that he's NOT voting for Obama. I think the RNC should craft an ad showing Clint saying "you have to let him go"

The empty chair/suit description seems to be sticking and it’s driving the left crazy. (imo) It’s not supposed to be this way. They’re of superior intellect in their own minds.

Who knew Clint Eastwood was a Tea Party guy? I have a theory…………….. that Clint Eastwood just ended the GOPe era of wimped out communications. In one segment he put to rest the whole new tone (please don’t call me a racist) meme.

He stood up and never backed down from a truth we all recognize but have allowed to be compromised. Namely, when you can’t do the job, we have to let you go. No animosity, no fear, just a fact.

The sarcasm had a role as well. Someone with some perceived credibility by the left needed to mock Obama openly and laugh at his incompetence. And mean it!

The fact that there were some stumbles, a few um’s and ah’s made it even better. In his honest delivery Clint will ultimately serve to be the best way to expose the predictable response of the main stream media. We know how they will be offended.

But the real reason they’ll be ticked off, is because they just got out Alinskyed by an American icon who was laughing in their faces at them and their protected, but incompetent President.

Clint is a moviemaker and the empty chair was very visual.

Libtards are sniping because Clint will not be in their arena in Charlotte. No doubt they’ll turn out a parade of their own celebs who will once again show that they don’t understand reality but will receive nothing but accolades for their (snicker) “insight”.

I agree with you the GOPe does exist. I disagree with you when you blame others like an Obamanite.

WE are responsible. We lost. The sooner we realize that the sooner we can re-tool and get back to working for another 2010 WIPEOUT.

EARTH TO BRETO, you cannot expect to win a primary with two candidates splitting who do nothing but split the conservative vote which allows the opposition (GOPe/RINO) to win.

Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin, said that he "cringed" at the performance.

That's the first time I've heard anything from Walker that was disappointing, and surprising. Eastwood did a great job, but the viewer did have to hone in on what Clint was doing with the empty chair.

It's only a big deal because a ‘rat president was the target for once. Saturday Night Live built a whole shtick based upon mocking Republican presidents, what makes them think a ‘rat president would be off-limits?

I completely disagree.

Eastwood actions got people to tune in who otherwise wouldn't have.

And on top of that both Rubio and Romney looked better by comparison because Eastwood set the bar so low. In fact I think Eastwood appearing actually made Romney look younger by comparison also.

Everyone is talking Clint Eastwood and not Romney’s speech.

Everyone? Who is "everyone"? My experience so far today has been along the lines, Did you watch the convention last night? Wasn't Eastwood hilarious? Sure was. So, what did you think of Romney's speech...?

Anecdotal, I know. But anyone that obsessed by Eastwood's performance last night, to the exclusion of all else, is not the kind of political junkie who would otherwise be dissecting Romney's speech today anyway.

I enjoyed it! Especially the part about Zero flying hither and yon in that gas-guzzle AF1 to do unimportant things. Oh, and the part about firing his sorry a$$. Now get off my lawn!
