Since the secular government of Gaddafi was overthrown by Islamic fundamentalists armed and funded by the United States, who do not tolerate homosexuality, sending an openly gay ambassador was an assassination staged to happen..perhaps he was naive, but whoever sent him on this diplomatic mission, sent him to DIE.
Why don’t we use tax dollars to promote values of free speech and democracy instead of sodomy? Better still, develop our own resources and get out of the dump that is the Muslim world and close the door behind us.

Exit question: Has anyone come up with a solid explanation yet for how this militia knew Stevens was at the consulate that night? He wasn’t based in Benghazi, remember; the embassy is in Tripoli. He was there temporarily, and yet somehow the local jihadis caught him at just the right moment. Amazing how they managed to put together a “spontaneous” attack on a night when Stevens just happened to be in town, huh?
Based on an interview (with his parents) I saw on a local news station, this guy had been stationed at several different posts in Arab countries. So, this wasn’t his first rodeo (so to speak).
I also think it’s a huge mistake to send a female SOS to deal with muzzie countries. Trying to force them to deal with women, whom they denigrate, is just asking for trouble. I have no problem with a woman SOS, but perhaps an appointment of a man, subordinate, to deal with muzzie states would be a wise idea.
