Best Debate Performance By a GOP Presidential Candidate in More than Two Decades OCT 3, 2012 • BY WILLIAM KRISTOL

With Mitt, at last, Republicans can sleep easy. Agree with him or not, this is a man who’s not about to be stumped. Romney’s verbal repertoire even extends to a capability that Republicans had forgotten still existed: nuance. Romney displayed his adeptness in the New Hampshire debate three weeks ago when parrying a challenge about the complexity of his 59-point plan from Herman Cain.

Without hesitation, and with no hint of condescension, Mitt explained “that simple answers are always very helpful but oftentimes inadequate.” Not exactly an answer that Bob Dole would have come up with on the spot. And he showed that he could stand up for himself as well, going toe-to-toe with Rick Perry last week in Las Vegas in the epic battle for the microphone.

Romney’s debate performances the first time around, in 2007-08, were not always so well honed. To his credit, he used his four years of practice to master the craft. This kind of hard work and discipline in an executive may be exactly what the American people are looking for this time.

Followed by Ryan vs Biden next week!

Even if Biden has all the questions in advance and a teleprompter, that's still gonna be a bloodbath.

I have a feeling that it will turn into Ryan vs the Moderator while Joe just sits around with his hairplugs falling out.

That's good to make tonight's debate even worse news for Democrats

How can one prep Biden?

!!!!Ha, Ha, Ha,.... I can’t wait for the Ryan, Bidden debate. This should be the biggest comedy hit of the year. If Bidden’s brain is already pea soup, what will it be after Ryan gets through with him???

Yep, I have watched them all. Best debate performance by a GOP candidate since Reagan.

Have received no emails from the Obama camp since the debate? Suspect they are working overtime on the spin to explain what happened.

(I get all the O emails since signing on to his website in 2008. They think because I went to the website I am a supporter, they are very wrong)

Don’t think I watched much of the 2008 debate. I watched all of this and was enthralled the entire time.

So nice to see a Republican candidate who can debate finally. He did what he had to do to counter Obama’s lies.

He needs to be aware Obama may be on his game in the future, but after tonight, I think he will be ready in case the “2008” Obama shows up in later debates.

Welcome back to the party Billy-boy. Maybe you'll join us in trying to get the Marxist out of the White House instead of attacking your own side in an effort to win the approval of the liberal establishment as a "good conservative."

Bill Kristol is a putz.

I have no doubt Obamugabe had inside info on Lehrer’s questions. For the next debates, I expect him to have not only the questions but typewritten, easy to read, “when they ask this, you reply like this” answers on the papers on the lectern.

"How can one prep Biden?"

I imagine Biden's prep will be a week long drunk and we will see him stagger onto the debate stage at Centre College in Danville, Ky and fall on his face. He has had four years to do and say anything he wants. Going into the debate soused like a clown would be just his idea of a good time.

I know what I write is a fantasy. Seriously, even Ryan says, "You're not going to rattle Joe Biden. Joe is very good on the attack. Joe is very good at trying to confuse the issues." We must take Biden as a serious threat and hope Ryan can take him to the wood shed.

I’d love to be a fly on the WH wall tonight. I wonder if O actually throws stuff at his staff or just screams and fires people.

Oh the joy!

To be honest, I watched Obama in 2008 debates and was surprised when he got such rave reviews. I thought he was pretty much a dud even then.
