Since the 2006 federal election cycle began, Rob Walton has given $135,500 in federal political contributions. Of that total, $12,600 went to Wal-Mart Stores or Arvest Bank Group; of the remaining $122,900, 73% went to Republicans. The only Democrat or Democrat-affiliated group he has given to other than former Arkansas Senator Blanche Lincoln is Barack Obama ($2,300 in October 2008) and the DNC ($28,500 in October 2008).

California: In 2005, Arizona resident Rob Walton donated $250,000 to “Yes on 77,” a group formed in support of California’s Proposition 77. Had it not been defeated by California voters, Proposition 77 would have given authority to redraw congressional and legislative districts to three retired judges, shifting that power from the Democrat-controlled General Assembly and strengthening the Republican governor’s hand.

The meeting, which capped a weeklong slate of events, follows a story by The New York Times in April that the world’s largest retailer allegedly failed to notify law enforcement after finding evidence that officials authorized millions of dollars in bribes in Mexico to get speedier building permits and other favors.
Following the allegations, it’s been reported that federal authorities in the U.S. and Mexico are investigating Wal-Mart for potential violations. Investors are suing top executives. And some shareholders are calling for the removal of several board members, including Walton, Duke and former CEO Lee Scott.
Wal-Mart disclosed in a regulatory filing late Friday that several executives including Duke, Scott, and Walton are the target of 11 “derivative” lawsuits, a type of legal action that seeks to change corporate governance. The lawsuits charge that the executives neglected their responsibilities in handling the alleged bribery scandal. Wal-Mart also noted in its filing that a securities class action lawsuit was filed against the company on May 7.

The Solyndra - Walmart Connection

A lot has been said about the ties of George Kaiser, a campaign contribution bundler for President Obama’s 2008 campaign, to the Solyndra bankruptcy scandal that likely has cost taxpayers $535 million thanks to a Department of Energy loan guarantee. Kaiser’s investment firm, Argonaut Venture Capital, held over 35 percent of the failed solar company’s stock – more than anyone else.
But next in line (with 11 percent) behind Argonaut in the Solyndra stakes is Madrone Capital Partners, which is managed by a trio whom the political Left has attempted to tie to support for Republicans. Of course, “they did it too” is not a legitimate defense, but in this case, it’s not a portrayal of the entire picture either.
Madrone is tied to the Walton family – of Walmart fame – and is co-managed by an in-law, Gregory Penner, who also serves as a Walmart director. He is the son-in-law of S. Robson “Rob” Walton, married to his daughter Carrie. Rob, Walmart Stores’ chairman of the board, is one of founder Sam Walton’s sons. Madrone’s other partners are listed as Jameson “Jamie” McJunkin and Thomas Patterson, and McJunkin is also a director for Solyndra.
Walmart can no longer be portrayed as a “conservative” or “Republican” company. Beginning under former CEO Lee Scott, and accelerating under present CEO Mike Duke, Walmart has become a powerful backer of a host of left-wing causes. Even more significant, Walmart incessantly boasts of its commitments to “sustainability,” cap-and-trade, and even ObamaCare. Press releases about new solar panels installed at the company’s stores are issued regularly. Walmart’s reputation for environmental activism became so great that the company is now the subject of a fawning book titled Force of Nature, The Unlikely Story of Walmart’s Green Revolution: How It Could Transform Business and Save the World, about their allegedly conservationist practices, despite eight consecutive quarters of same-store sales declines.
Holy crap....this is huge. Get ready for the boycott! Last dime spent at Wal-Mart here!
I’ve been trying to direct as much of my household purchasing as possible to Wal-Mart in support of their past conservative leanings and being attacked by unions so much in recent years.
If profits go to the radical left, though, that ends right now.
