Posted on 10/21/2012 8:19:48 PM PDT by moonshinner_09
Latino workers in the Phoenix area are fighting back against the bullying sheriff of Maricopa County, Joe Arpaio. Theyve registered over 34,000 new voters for the November election.
The Adiós Arpaio campaign is part of a strategy by the hotel union UNITE HERE to turn around Arizonas anti-worker policies, in a right-to-work state where Latino workers have only recently begun to flex their political muscles. Maricopa County contains 60 percent of Arizonas population
Organizers say they feel a seismic shift in the political landscape. Ive never been part of something historic before, said Lucia Vergara Aguirre, president of UNITE HERE Local 631. The union has been growing, representing workers at the Phoenix airport complex and at several downtown hotels, and has other organizing drives underway.
The campaign could have national importance in drawing the line against politicians who use anti-immigrant rhetoric to gain office. UNITE HERE members have been taking time off to work on the voter registration campaign. Fifty volunteers from the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, along with labor activists from Texas and New Mexico, traveled to Phoenix to bolster the effort.
But a phalanx of Phoenix high school students has formed the backbone of the campaign. Theyve been coming into the union office after school and working four shifts a day on weekends, heading out to register people in grocery stores and on doorsteps, making inroads in a Latino community that has not traditionally registered to vote in high proportions.
All these students committed because they have the same issue inside, that they cant stand discrimination against Latinos, said Carmen Robles, a Tempe High School student who, at 15, leads one of a dozen student voter registration teams. Hers is jokingly called the T Party, for Tempe.

Arpaio will be re-elected with room to spare.
Arpaio will be re-elected with room to spare.
The commies and freeloaders don’t like Joe.
What's with this word 'Latino'? Why not Mexican Americans? Why does it have to infer a reference to illegal greasers as Latino's?
The illegal aliens hate America and its laws. They’re only here for the money, the handouts and the freebies.
Why not call the illegals wetbacks because the illegal Mexicans wade across the Rio Grande river to enter US illegally and in the process get their clothes sopping wet..
First...why would any American join a union that supports any type, form, or person who is an Illegal Alien. Are people so White Guilt Liberal that they would be a member of a union who is trying to make you un-employed? Are people really that stupid?
As for Arpaio...hope the citizens of Maricopa County re-elect him, and send a message to the America-Hating Pro-Illegal Alien goofballs
We do need to keep the language and not loose it to the leftist. Immigrants come here to become americans and as such would not behave in this manner. The people this article refers to are not immigrants in any form they are invaders from Mexico, El Salvador , Guatemala and other south of the border countries. They come here to conquer the country by breeding and taking control of the culture and politics by amassing the vote through the anti american democrat party which makes it easy to commit voter fraud.
We are at war for the life and culture of our country and dont even know it.......
Ours is, so far, a free country; and I'd suggest all Freepers to send Sheriff Joe some financial help to keep our country Free.
Go Joe!!! .
"Discrimination" to the Robles family means that the gringos have a border and they enforce it.
Bring it on, morons. Arizona isn't California, better get set for a real rumble.
Bad-mouthing 0bama again? LOL!
The latest two polls showed Arpaio's lead shrinking from 12%, to 6% to now just 4%, as millions in advertising and ground troops funded by George Soros' "Law Enforcement PAC" have hit the Sheriff hard. Please help him out HERE. This is the closest election he has ever faced.

Not sure about the web page that you posted above.
I checked a web site http://www.sheriffjoe.org/ that appears to be an official Sheriff Joe webpage and another link from there called “Donate” says that they are only accepting donations by mail.
Before donating online the web page that you posted above, I would contact MCSO directly and find out exactly how to donate to Sheriff JOe.
Maybe the web page that you cite above is a fake one that may well redirect your contribution to the bad guys. I dunno.
Why don’t these illegal cowards go back and fix their own country.
I did check with them and have donated to both web and by mail (I will only donate up to $50 online, anything higher I send my snail mail). Notice on the online page it has the same mail address for donations as the general one you cited. I really hope this poll is wrong, but something very strange is happening in Arizona, with Obama within 2%, and Carmona and Flake changing leads every few days. Soros and the unions are spending a fortune trying to turn Arizona blue.
/Why dont these illegal cowards go back and fix their own country./
THE KITTY SPEAKETH..’AND SHE AINT WRONG’
Arpaio will be re-elected with well over 60% of the vote. I’d much rather see these union goons and Reconquista/La Raza/MEChA types chasing that white whale than walking suburban precincts for Obama in Nevada or New Mexico.
Notorious is not a word I would use for America’s Sheriff.
” Arpaio will be re-elected with well over 60% of the vote.”
All you need to know!
Sounds like they're taking a page from the Community Organizers' Handbook...
The coal miners endorsed Al Gore. 'Nuff said.
Maybe they hate this country or they have vested interests.
I agree, someone has been pouring TONS of money into the Arizona elections for the past month. Most of the money against Arpaio and Flake.
