Have You Noticed? Secret Service is treating Mitt Romney like a President, not just a candidate

Last night I watched Mitt Romney’s speech from Bucks County, Pennsylvania and noticed something I hope you’ve picked up on: his Secret Service detail is treating Mitt Romney like a President…and not just like a candidate.

What I mean is that the looks on the agents faces, and the way they aggressively keep turning their heads and watching out for Romney, is the same thing they do for the actual President…but it’s not the same level of intensity these guys provide for a mere candidates for office, former presidents, First Ladies, etc. While the Secret Service always strives to do its job well and protect all its charges…the PRESIDENT is where they put their most energy…and I think mentally the agency has moved ahead and realizes that Mitt Romney will become the President-Elect tomorrow.

I never saw them treat John McCain this way. And they never treated Hillary Clinton this way, either. But they did treat Barack Obama this way very early on…way back to December 2007 or early January 2008, whenever he got a full Secret Service detail. They always treated him like he’d be the next president, not just a candidate.

But that’s how they are treating Mitt Romney right now…making it clear to me that the Powers That Be know that Bathhouse Barry is one and done.

Have you noticed this?(continued)

I did actually notice that and was trying to describe it to a friend on the phone. Very intense. Thought it might be because of all the death threats coming from the left in such a steady stream.

Maybe they are desperately hoping that he wins.

While that may be so, it is probably driven more by the myriad of death threats that Romney is alleged to have received.

As corrupt as the Secret Service has become under Obama, I’m sure there is still some sense of pride.

Once a party’s nominee has been chosen, the nominee gets Secret Service protection. This is not out of the ordinary. A few years ago, National Geographic did a special called, Inside the Secret Service. The special included clips from the 2004 campaign. The Secret Service followed Kerry around the country as much as they did Bush. With all the threats against Romney, I’m glad he’s got protection.

Didn’t really grab my attention until recent rally’s..just thought it was because of increase in crowd size but tonight NH rally, they were especially evident..noticed more of them & staying very close to Romney.

There’s a heavy set agent that I keep seeing around Romney. He’s intense. Looks like he’s ready to kick the hillbilly sh*t out of somebody.

The tall guy was giving orders to the crowd and backing them off as Romney was shaking hands after his speech. He was so close to Romney, their shoulders were touching. It was almost jarring and a little scary to see the intensity on their faces. Extremely alert. No smiles. Eyes everywhere.

I beg to differ. A secret service protectee is a secret service protectee. Those guys are some of the best in law enforcement. While they may harbor personal feelings one oway or the other, I do not beleive that any secret service protectee is more carefully or attentively guarded than any other. There may be MORE agents around the POTUS than there are around a candidate...or a foreign head of state...or a former president’s kid, but the intensity of their protection doesn’t get compromised just becuase they aren’t on POTUS detail. An AOP is an AOP.

Realizing all of that, I have seen them in action with Romney all along but within the last few days, SOMETHING changed. It was very visible and very palpable. And evidently, I am NOT the only one who noticed it.

I’m not seeing how they could do “too good” of a job...I’ll bet that job is stressful beyond belief. They probably say the same prayer that astronauts and test pilots do...”Oh God, please don’t let me @#@## up today...”. Even if I could do it, I’ll bet that the stress would kill me in matter of months. And I’ve read that many times they can’t do as good of a job as they would like to do because of logistical constraints or the (probably misguided and naive) wishes of the people that they protect.

I had a friend who was nurse at the State Psychiatric Hospital. Now and again one of the loonies would write some threatening letters to the President.

Secret Service would show up. Her take: They are scary and they don't smile.

Given the recent rise in terrorism, and all the threats, and size of crowds, I expect they have good reason to become more protective. The current regime is about to be replaced. That also means a period of maximum danger.

I'm glad to hear it, but whether it be the President himself or the candidate, the Secret Service will guard it's man.
