Most preppers should be familiar with the rule of three this means having one main method of an important function and a backup for it and a backup of the backup. It doesnt necessarily entail 3 versions of the same thing but distinctly different ways of accomplishing a priority task.
In the case of personal security arrangements, the main or level 1 version would be firearms within easy reach within a structure. These would be the primary weapons used for hunting and defence.
And while its been said that the time to hide weapons is the time to bring them out, the rule of three would dictate that a level 2 backup of the primary firearms should at least be considered. There are no guarantees as to the future but unknown threats such as governmental seizures or devastation of a structure must be considered in all plans and preparations.
Level 2 backups should be outside the immediate area but easily accessible in an underground or similar storage cache. The weapons should be set in waterproof PVC piping or the similar waterproof containers with additional scrap metal and scent distraction materials scattered about to foil determined searches. The presumption here would be that even with destruction of a home or bug out location or search and seizure operation a set of weapons would still be immediately available to the prepper.
Level 3 backups are a step removed from level 2 in that this backup is set at a distance and without a personal connection to the prepper. This means an underground cache on raw land unlikely to be disturbed in the near future. No personal connection means weapons purchased privately beyond the governments prying eyes.
Advantageous level 3 locales would be places where the cache would likely remain undisturbed, has a ready supply of decoy material nearby and relatively accessible. Long lost junkyards or metal dumping grounds would a good choice as well as rural backwoods with their requisite amounts of discarded trash. Such places would readily discourage searches with metal detectors and in the case of rural road frontage be of such vast amounts as to make detection of the cache highly improbable. Weapons destined for level 3 caches should be of the lower cost realm and lacking a pedigree lest they be inadvertently discovered.
Just as an aside, when data is stamped in materials such as metal, the stamping process tends to place the molecules a fair distance beneath the data under stress. This stress can manifest itself in form of visual indications even after the data has been abrasively removed. Grinding the material down to remove the indications of the data leaves the stress in molecules below and certain chemicals acids and the like can be utilised to determine what the data was while still present on the surface of the material. Given this interesting phenomenon, it would seem like applying additional stress on the molecules would cause this not to be the case. Writing over the data would scramble the stresses within the material while rendering the data unreadable. Hammering the data in the same region would not only remove the original data but also remove the original l datas stress indications deep in the material. In most cases areas with a great deal of metallic debris would be less than ideal for searches of this attribute of the cache. By the same token, the inclusion of chemical propellant components should suffice the placement of similar component with similar chemicals in the surroundings. Several handfuls of spent casing from the local range should do the trick and would satisfy both decoy requirements.
In summation, it should be incumbent on the prepper to have 3 personal security backups as with every other functional task such as the procurement of water. For most preppers, firearms are a priority are a foundational basis on their survival. Loss of personal security arrangements renders all other preps useless.
Data fusion - taking the stressed data and comparing it with location-registered optical data and then doing a simple subtraction could yield disaster. You'd be surprised what can be done with image processing. The best option is to buy legally, but look for non gun store Form 4473 purchases.....look to Craigs List, etc. for private purchases that aren't documented where the seller has to maintain them in perpetuity.
2 in the chest + 1 in the computer.
Every time I have hidden something lately, i like to never find it again due to “old timers disease”.
Hiding something remote to my AO without several sets of explicit instructions as to how to locate will only result in loss equipment for me. Of course having “treasure maps” scattered about nullifies the hiding.
Truly frightening effects are easy to accomplish with nothing more than wire cutters, a screw driver and an Alabama Speed Wrench.
u beat me to it. Rule #1 - belt fed, Rule #2 magazine fed, Rule #3, single load. lol.
If the authorities are coming for you, it’s already too late.
Or buy a welder.
Equal inventory outside enemy territory 3hrs to the NW.
Equal inventory outside of enemy territory 3hrs to the SW.
I keep a couple handguns, two rifles, one shotgun at home (plenty of ammo). I have some on family property 5 hours away in the woods (lots more ammo) and a couple stashed within an hour.
Personally? I’d seriously think about moving to somewhere more protective.....who knows? It may eventually come to a North and South United States again. I know it wouldn’t hurt my sensibilities.
“Rule of three” for guns?
I lost all my guns in a tragic trimaran accident.
I’m considering taking up beekeeping.
In many parts of the country it could become city-state vs country-side...Feudal-like...
Although not here in MD or other states like CT, MA, CA,etc where the overwhelming portion of the populations of cities and urban areas are fully communist by now.
I expect things to get very ugly in what used to be our country. These are good questions to ask yourself, but I will also keep the answers to myself.
Burying BBs in sand is fun. They fall through the screen scoup :)
i lost all my guns in a boating accident while sailing 50 miles off shore...
i miss all those guns.
Caching things so that you can get to them later reminds me of a joke for old people.
Would you rather have Parkinson’s of Alzheimer’s?
Parkinson’s. Its better to spill a little of your drink than forget where you left the bottle.
Catholic High School Girl’s In Trouble.
nothing says great time, like blasting a belt fed liberator at communist wannabees.
I’d suggest putting a rubber band around your finger to remind you, but I tried that and my finger rotted off (I forgot about the rubber band).
I keeps saying I need a welder. Then I think what for to build a welding table?
My rule of three is long range, medium range, and short range.
I’ve got a .270, a 9mm pistol, and a 12 gauge. Each are loaded (but not chambered), and I use hollow points on the 9mm, and tungsten shot on the 12 gauge.
Most folks’ll turn around when the .270 goes off. I know the deer run faster, and the dogs howl, at least.
The 9mm is a lot quieter; you almost have to be listening for it.
The shotgun? Well, she’s my baby. And thanks - you just reminded me I need to clean and oil her down.
If we degenerate to govt. thugs coming to your house looking for ANYTHING, might as well fight and hope for the best, even if you are 99% sure you will lose(depending on their numbers.)
1. They aren’t going to believe that you don’t have something hidden.
2. They will kill you anyway,to minimize their future risk if you have already been labeled as a dissenter.
A more likely scene is a social and economical meltdown, where the “public servants” and govt thugs will be trying to preserve their own butts. Just keep your powder dry, store a little extra food and drinking water, and defend what is yours and those you love with your life. I believe there is such a thing as “over-prepping” and it creates fear and paranoia in itself.
Combine that with a pre-70's 5th grade education and there'll be hell to pay...thermite and nitrated propellants were covered in my 5th grade natural sciences text. My daughter's 21st century version included thinly veiled advertisements for skittles and m&ms instead of the meat...
Dont forget to use steel, aluminum and brass to throw them off.
That is always the best all around, but the assumption has to be made that this course of action may not always be available.
Besides, If you need to do that its like the old saying anything hitting once is worth hitting multiple times.
Realize that at some point they will be coming for everyone. With a raft of laws to make the innocent lawbreakers.
Ohh nooo.. I hear thats a happening all over de place.
That sounds evil - and I like it.
Parasites dont like it when you cut off their food supply thats why they dont want you to be able defend yourself.
Obammy said himself that rich folks espouse non-violence cause theyve already got theirs.
They will first try to get people to register their guns as theyve done elsewhere.
This they can do incrementally with a carrot and stick approach.
Thermite, boy does that bring back memories. The potassium and magnesium were entertaining as well.
If it is time to bury the guns, it is time to use them.
You bury them when laws are passed to ban them. You dig them up when they start coming as in Obamagabe’s Black Shirts, the civilian army he says he wants.
They already did it. For water.... Just got a misdemeanor for apparently watering my yard at an unauthorized time. No witnesses, just an affidavit from an employee. Pay the fine by mail or come to court, plead innocent and get another court date, at which time your fine goes up if found guilty.
If they can do this and get away with it, what is next?
I only used the North/South as an illustration. Of course, you are right. The ‘division’ in this country is urban and semi-rural/rural....
Wow, I believe I would give them a court fight over that. You paid for that water, if you are on a public water supply. Being a public utility, they might restrict the AMOUNT you can use, but I don’t see how they can restrict the TIME you choose to use it. (legally) Now, if it is a Homeowners Ass. rule, they could probably do something if you agreed to restrictions in your contract, but I’m not sure about it being a crime?
