This is an issue that I've been mulling over for quite a while. I wrote more about the way I'd set this up, but I wanted to get some of your feedback first. Let me know what you think.
Enough is Enough: Has the Third Partys Time Come?
Weve lost our way. The American political system is a mess. The divisiveness between Republicans and Democrats seems insurmountable and its getting worse every day. I could get into the reasons that this is happening, but I doubt that would change a thing.
It is very painful for me to see this country literally becoming unraveled at the seams especially when I look at my own childrens future. Ive watched friends and even family members break ties over political differences. I have watched good, smart people enter politics and seen them change for the worse over the years as theyve become part of the political machine.
Political seniority often leads to leadership positions but has nothing to do with performance. Casting a favorable vote for something you may not even believe in, just to gain a committee chair or for some other future favor, is rampant in politics.
Its a very dirty game and its the reason so many really talented people never get involved in it. Its also the reason my sister Sarah Palin, has been so viciously attacked over the years. She refused to play the game. She has always stuck to her principles and because of that, she is viewed as a threat. Ive watched people in both major parties do everything they can to demean and destroy her. And all for what for trying to limit the size of government? For asking all of us to do our share? For insisting we spend less than we take in? For ending crony capitalism? For going above and beyond to support our military? For utilizing our natural resources in a responsible way? For praying? The list goes on.
Lets face it. As it stands now, its impossible to be elected to a high national office without being a part of the Republican or Democratic Party. I propose that the disgruntled citizens of the United States
Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians
persons of every race, religion, economic status, and whoever else is interested, join together and form a new party. Id simply call it, the American Party.
I agree with that, but the Big Republican E was a fail on defending her before the primary flirtation, back when she was with RINO McCain rolled by Couric. She was too conservative to bother with rehabilitating.
The party is purging the base. Palin was a clue.
That is the meat of it, we just watched a presidential election, and I still don't know what the GOP candidate was about, or for, or why, or what, or anything.
Most people can give a few sentences or even a paragraph or two of the democrat position on most things, but they draw a blank on the republican position outside of, "they're against it".
Uh, I don't think they exist any more. I haven't heard of one in about a decade now.........
Well mister liberal, your memory is faulty.
Palin ended up not running in 2012, but she maintains her position as the most important republican in America, and the one who has done the most to shape the party in her image, during the last 4 years.
Many, if not most of the names that conservatives turn to in the Congress and the Senate and among Governors, have strong ties to Palin, and have benefited from her involvement in 80 or so races since December of 2008, when she came out swinging while the rest of the conservative movement was broken and demoralized, and AFRAID, within 2 weeks of the election of 2008, Palin was going full force to rebuild and reinvigorate the right.
After a few months of Palin standing alone and surviving, more and more conservatives started growing bolder in the face of the new, Obama media and the ascendancy of the left.
The answer is for somebody in the Republican Party, with charisma and political savvy to rise and take over the party, And right now I see nobody that fits that description.
Good grief, how many more repeats do we need of 08 and 12, with 7, 8, 9 “candidates” for the media and each other to destroy??
I’ve been a Republican for 60 years, but I quit Nov. 7, 2012, and I’m too damn old to wait around for more time-wasting. I’d like to help get my country back and I can’t help if I’m dead. So PICK a third party, and “infiltrate” that and support it. It doesn’t work with the Republican party. Like many of us say, they don’t call it the Stupid Party for nothing. I felt sooo good voting for my first Libertarian (local) last year. I’d like to feel good once more; any party, please!
She has been a trooper in backing, and getting conservatives elected, she has been solid in trumpeting conservatism as a message, far better than 90% of our so called "conservative pundits" and 99% of our so called "conservative office holders".
Demeaning her and what she has accomplished is senseless, it makes those who do so appear small, contributing to the conservative self marginalization in an unnecessary way.
I've noticed the comments following yahoo news articles that people are quite divided along party lines UNTIL the subject of DC Establishment(career politicians) comes up. The thumbs up on these comments overwhelm the thumbs down every time. Washington is hated by a large majority of the American people. A candidate that can run from the outside and against the beltway stands a very good chance of catching on. Sarah Palin already has those creds, if she decides to use them.
I LIKE THAT! Commonsense is what most of us live by and is in short supply in government. Sarah Palin always talks about commonsense conservatism, commonsense solutions, etc.
It’s time for a third party!
When it came time for the fiscal cliff vote in the House, less than half of the Republicans voted for it.
So what is the difference if there is a Republican or Democrat Speaker of the House, if the outcome is the same?
It is too late for a third party, IMHO.
The “Obamaites”, being Alinsky devotees, will only “tea stain”, lie about, and ridicule ANY group or “party” that challenges them. - With the help of the Obama-controlled media, which a lot of people listen to, it’s likely to stick. . and they’ll keep on “Lettermaning” and “reporting” the slander until they think it’s sticking. - Give up? Never!
Yes, I agree. The new party should organize itself so conservatives can back a single, strong, small-government candidate before the GOP primaries.
It should build a state-by-state, national structure and influence elections that way before taking on the other parties directly in a three-way election.
You missed the point. Indeed the culture war is worth fighting but we are talking tactics here, not strategy. Culture war is part of the strategy not the tactics to achieve the goals. Without the proper tactics the strategy is lost.
Go ahead and make your points. It’s important to get individual views on the subject of what a third party should stand for.
It’s my view that if the new party controls the money, they will control the issues and not vice versa.
One has to look for weakness and that weakness is in the house of cards that make up the federal budgets and debts. The wedge issues will be taken up by leftist media and conservatives will likely come to an impasse. So it’s only logic that one approaches with a new party that is geared to overcome the weak aspects of the current regimes.
Asia is polluted and unmanageable except by force and coercion. It’s growing economically but has little to offer to be a world leader. It’s not popular in any way.
The US is not fading, it is being hobbled by leftist interests that find advantage in seeing the USA as a non-competitor.
The American civilization could quickly make mince meat of competitors in world markets by simple tax and regulatory reform.
The US is a giant 32 cylinder high performance robust engine presently operating on only 2 cylinders and bad fuel.
Just as soon as we find the right leadership from whatever party that understands the economic engine that is the United States of America, then all this sour talk will disappear.
The only people that would like to believe the US is fading are the Chinese and their surrogates on the ground here. They like to think this and puff themselves up because in the final analysis their own society is unwanted and unattractive to any other society. And it will always be that way.
“The US is a giant 32 cylinder high performance robust engine presently operating on only 2 cylinders and bad fuel.”
Let me fix that for you.
“The US was created as giant 32 cylinder high performance robust engine, but the addition of tens of thousands of laws and regulations, elimination of Constitutional Rights - cloaked as necessary for the War on Drugs, The War on Terror, etc. - have replaced the engine with an electric plug in model of 4 cylinders, limited the speed by US decree, added so much safety equipment that the car is weighed down, mandated how many hours a day it can be driven, and placed a lien on the car for almost 100,000 times its actual worth.”
Asia - more public offerings now in Hong Kong and Singapore than New York and London combined.
Wealth is shifting to Asia.
Poverty is on the rise here. Chile now has less poverty than the US.
Growth has been reduced into a depressive productivity gap.
Highest corporate tax rate in the industrialized world.
One of only two nations that have a non-territorial tax system.
We have 50 million people of retirement age who will never be able to fully retire.
We have more debt than any nation in all history. It will never be repaid.
The next shoe to drop in the financial crisis will crumble our facade of strength.
I feel deeply for the American dream and nation I grew up living in, but I realize that America is no longer.
Index of economic freedom? Used to head the list. Almost out of the top 10 now.
US Dollar as the reserve currency? Being circumvented internationally now.
The only people who see America as fading from its former glory are those who have studied history and have eyes to see what is unfolding, preferring instead to spend their time watching Honey Boo Boo...
Reagan tried. He pushed back the advance of the socialist state, but allowed gov’t to continue to grow and more importantly, debt to begin its rise. If you are waiting for a leader, good luck. It isn’t the same nation. The laws are not the same.
Is it collapsing? Of course not. No more than other nations like the UK, that once ruled the world stage, but now do not. France? Used to be a major power. Spain? Portugal? Both used to rule the seas. Netherlands? Used to exert influence world-wide. Roman Empire? Not revived until the end times. Heck, China used to be prominent and went into decline before their new rise. Japan? Were buying up the world at one time. Those nations all still exist. The dominate nothing, except China, which has only begun to rise.
I both love and grieve for my country. BOTH parties have worked to make it a pinata of wealth and power for themselves to enjoy, while it is bankrupted.
My father is a retired government employee who voted for Obama but voted for Reagan in 1984 and George Wallace (3rd Party) in 1968.
The demographics are changing, but he is not happy with overspending in Washington and knows that something needs to be done.
He’s not happy with illegal immigration, welfare in general, food stamps in particular.
Its possible to draw new people in with the right candidates and message.
I am not missing the point at all. You’re describing the Libertarian party. You don’t need a new 3rd party. Go join the Libertarians. They are basically economically conservative without all the conservative social positions.
The problem is most conservatives don’t agree with you. Not yet anyway. We may get to a time where conservatives have to accept that we can’t focus on abortion and gay marriage, but right now to even suggest that will often get you shouted down.
That’s kinda where I am at.
