The Thanks and Reverence We Owe Undocumented Immigrants

While the national obsession with guns takes a turn for the hysterical, an interesting duel is taking shape in Washington between Barack Obama and Florida’s Sen. Marco Rubio. It involves an issue almost as incendiary as guns. Immigration.Luckily for us, neither Obama nor Rubio is being hysterical about it. They both recognize that 11 million undocumented immigrants can’t be wished away. Nor will they self-deport, in the unforgettably Stalinist phrase of the late Mitt Romney. And we can’t arrest them all and ship them across the Mexican border. Dwight Eisenhower tried that in 1954 with Operation Wetback, when the casual bigotry of national policy had no problem advertising itself by name. The “Wetbacks” came back, not least because the dirty little secret of chambers of commerce from here to Wall Street’s bottom lines is that they want them here. It’s not just that illegal immigration is unavoidable. Our consumer tastes and distaste for certain kind of work make it necessary. Without it, we wouldn’t have vegetables and fruit on our dinner tables because there’d be no one to pick them in the fields. We wouldn’t have much of a tourism industry in Florida because there’d be no one to make our beds in hotels and clean our theme parks’ toilets. We wouldn’t have nannies to slave after our children. We wouldn’t have much of a construction industry. In short, we wouldn’t have anyone doing the sort of work Americans believe they’re too good to do themselves

We wouldn’t have much of a construction industry, lies. there’d be no one to make our beds in hotels and clean our theme parks’ toilets. We wouldn’t have nannies to slave after our children, more lies,we wouldn’t have vegetables and fruit on our dinner tables because there’d be no one to pick them in the fields, more lies.We also would not have document fraud, hit and run drunk drivers, drug dealers from Mexico, human smugglers kidnapping ,beating, their catgo, demanding ransoms, child molestions would be down, our children safer, our roads safter with legal drivers who can read and write, less drivers driving without licenses and insurace, welfare, food stamps useage would be down, hospitals would not be out millions of dollars due to illegals refusing to pay their bills,etc,etc,etc..add your savings..

“Self-Deport” is not a Stalinist phrase.

It was invented after pro-Amnesty commentators claimed it would be “impossible to deport 11 million illegals.”

The idea is simple, legal, and humane.

Require ALL employers to use E-Verify, and fine or sue employers who do not.

When illegal immigrants discover they can't find work, they will “self-deport” and return to their home country.

Wow! It’s pretty incredible when you read an article and realize that not a single claim made in it is true!

There is an easy way to prove it. Vigorously enforce existing immigration law. I guarantee everything in this article would be proven false!

“Nor will they self-deport,”

Not as long as they can get jobs illegally, welfare, food stamps, free healthcare, and free government housing.

Illegals are government growth hormone and any republican encouraging them to stay is only promoting bigger government.

The real question is, why are they “illegal”? If these idiots really want them here, why don’t they advocate for a bigger quota and easier entrance, along with super strict border enforcement? And let’s do it the “right” way.

But you notice they don’t. Just lip service for the important border enforcement and excuses to let them come here and let them stay.

BTW, let’s put trailers and Sec. 8 type housing with 100% illegals in Pierre’s neighborhood. And then get his reaction afterwards.

You game, Pierre?

WOW! You could hardly tell this writer leaned so far to the left that he has fallen over.

Excellent, tasteful piece outlining the superior thinking of those who hate America.

[ They both recognize that 11 million undocumented immigrants can’t be wished away ]

Of COURSE they can be legislated away..
Make it illegal to hire them.. house them.. or feed them..
And face, finger, and foot print them to deny future immigrant status.. unless they leave without help..

You know ..... make it illegal to be here.. if your illegal..
Also laws to prosecute any legals willfully enabling them.. profiting from them or enslaving them..

Many maybe most will drift back across the border on their own.. not all but most.
Make it easier to do so...

At the same time make it unprofitable to be a gang member in big or small cities.. white, black or hispanic.. OR asian..

It would be EASY if there was a WILL to do it..

The author of this article is full of it. While it’s true there’s lots of jobs Americans won’t do, it’s also true there’s lots of jobs illegals do that legal immigrants or guest workers from other countries will do. The idea that if illegal immigrants aren’t doing all those dirty jobs then nobody else will fill the void is ludicrous. A very large percentage of the jobs they do can be done by Americans, and the rest can be done by LEGAL!! workers from other countries.

And a lot of those jobs that Americans used to do were stolen by the illegals. I’ve seen it in the construction industry with many of my friends.

Not only should any business be heavily filed for hiring illegals, ever susy homemaker and harry homeowner as well.

Agreed 100%. They WILL self deport if you fine every business who has an illegal immigrant as an employee $100,000 for each instance. You can d@mn well betcha that they would check the background of every employee with a fine tooth comb. They deny our freedoms subtly every day by going after the businesses that supply the goods and services we need or want (ever notice how the EPA or ATF rarely goes after individuals?). But they won't even consider going after businesses in any meaningful way to stop them from hiring illegals.

And then you get moron journalists posting things about how the "right wing" has some psychological "inferiority" issues and is being "led" when we are angry with our government for selective enforcement of our laws (different thread, but I'm STILL angry about it).

Secure the border. Enforce the law. And the problem will resolve itself relatively humanely over the course of a very few years. People will self-deport as it becomes harder and harder to find work. Some few will manage to legalize themselves by one means or other. Others will bump into law enforcement and be deported directly.

The point is, though, that the problem is unsolveable as long as the border remains unsecured, and as long as the law is not actively enforced. And it is highly solveable once you take the problem seriously. Statistics show that, as the economy has stagnated, people have indeed deported themselves.

There will always be a few difficult cases but those will be a lot easier to deal with once the massive inflow has stopped.

High unemployment and they want to make them legal. Being legal means a legal wage, right?

Rubio has been adopted by the Bush family just like Bill Clinton. Not good for America.

Where did this bull s**t number of 11 million illegal aliens in the number come from?

The estimate is even less the “12 million illegal aliens in the US” head count has been the standard since the Clinton Administration since about 1996 and has been unchanged since that time despite and estimated 1-2 million illegals entering the US over the last 15 years since then.

It’s more like 12 million in 1996 plus another 20 - 30 million more since then for a total of 30-45 million illegals residing in the borders of the US.

I find it kind of racist that people living in this country are willing to accept illegal immigration because they are too good to clean their own toilets.

The idea that cheap labor is good for America should have been settled by the Civil War. If illegal aliens from Mexico walk on water as this idiot of a writer is intimating then why isn’t Mexico a paradise? I’ve said it before, I’ll keep on saying it: If the f’ing Mexican people gave HALF A CRAP about Mexico and put just HALF the f’ing energy into FIXING IT that they put into DESTROYING AMERICA then someday Mexico will be a F’ING PARADISE!!!!
