Rahm Emmanuel to major banks: Stop serving gun manufacturers
The Examiner ^ | January 26, 2013 | Joe Newby

In a letter sent Friday to the CEOs of TD Bank and Bank of America, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emmanuel urged the banks to stop serving gun manufacturers unless they support gun control measures, CBS Chicago reported.

According to CBS, Emmanuel wants the banks to "stop lines of credit, financing for acquisitions and expansions and financial advising" unless the manufacturers agree with him on issues like background checks and what he called “commonsense reforms."

“In the past, the gun industry has stood in opposition to these safety measures. They opposed a ban on assault weapons on America’s streets, opposed a ban on military-style clips, opposed a criminal background check on all gun purchases and opposed any effort to crack down on criminal gun traffickers,” he wrote.

In his letter to TD Bank CEO Bharat Masrani, he demanded the bank uses its influence “to push this company to find common ground” on gun bans and background checks, noting the $60 million line of credit the bank gives to Smith and Wesson.

"Why shouldn’t they have a line of credit?" Jason Howerton asked at The Blaze. "The company has done nothing illegal and AR-15s are perfectly legal weapons."

Emmanuel noted that Aurora movie shooter James Holmes used an AR-15, but as Howerton wrote, the mayor failed to mention that the rifle reportedly jammed during the shooting spree. Emmanuel also failed to mention the incident in which a 15-year-old boy protected himself and his sister from two burglars using an AR-15.

He also demanded that Bank Of America CEO Brian T. Moynihan take the same actions against Sturm, Ruger & Co., a manufacturer with a $25 million line of credit.

“Collectively we can send a clear and unambiguous message to the entire gun industry...

Time to boycott all products made in or by Chicago companies!!! I went to my local store and told them if they sell Wrigley’s gum I will not buy anything from his store, explained the reason why and the store owner agreed to remove the gum from his shelf.

What are we afraid of? Discomfort, hardship, and legal penalties; from making less income to pay less income taxes, making no income to pay no income taxes, and refusal to pay income taxes, respectively. But short of armed rebellion which will never happen, depriving the govt of revenue is the only way to repair it. It’s the only thing the beast understands. Not the jury box, ballot box, soap box....just the cash box. Close it and demand what you will.

The mayor of Chicago, literally the murder capital of the USA, is using the government’s illegitimate influence on the banking industry to create financial pressure on perfectly legal manufacturing businesses for political purposes.

It’s the new Washington DC way, brought to you by Chicago.

They aren’t exactly operating undercover anymore, are they?

Hey Rahmbo, why not leave "gun control" to the Feds?

Looks like you've got way more pressing problems right out side your bullet-proof window:

Anywhere else in the country, this kind of demand would be called EXTORTION! But in Chicago, it is called standard operating procedure. This kind of behavior is exactly what Obama is doing to the entire country on a national level. Will these banks stand up to this criminal thug weasel and tell him to attend to his own business as mayor, and mind his own beeswax? What kind of leverage does he have to enforce this threat? Is everybody in this country falling into the marxist/communist line? Won’t somebody stand up and not just say no, but HELL NO?!

Impressive! He must be a pro-gun guy himself, to ban a product from his store on the request of a single customer.

Rahm Emauel left the Administration and was placed in Chicago to become Mayor, AND to oversee the national HQ of the Obama campaign, to ensure the Chicago political machine would stay well-oiled, and minimize challenges that would threaten Obama’s carrying Illinois again.SO, to see Emanuel functioning now as a Representative, a Proxy and a remote Surrogate to the Administration’s gun policy is no surprise.
What is surprising is that he was tasked with this level of overreaching, but I guess they think he can get away with it because he’s (technically)not part of the Administration, and thinks he can afford this kind of aggressive strong-arming as the Mayor of a “major” Metropolis.

“Emmanuel noted that Aurora movie shooter James Holmes used an AR-15,..”

James Holmes is a registered Democrat and worked on an election campaign for Obama.

ok... let them have what they want. an existence without firearms.

therefore ALL gun manufacturers, gun supply companies, gun-related accessories companies, gun-related training companies... should IMMEDIATELY stop doing business with the mayor, his office, and their families.

additionally, any other political type anywhere in the country that is taking steps to undermine the 2nd amendment should also be treated similarly.

on top of that, any security related organizations, including police, that utilize any firearms, related accessories, equipment, or training... should also stop working with these politicians. if they do not... then they should be treated similar to the politicians by those in the industry.

just stop doing business with them

let them have their wish
