And a good number of posters are all of a sudden Stones fans just because they told their other liberal pals to stick it?

Never been much of Stones fan, but it's nice to see someone in a normally leftist industry taking a stand against Israel bashers. However, IMHO, "Gimme Shelter" is one of the greatest R&R songs of all time

Get real. "Sympathy for the Devil" played in Jerusalem?

Ever bothered to read the lyrics, or did you limit your interest to the title of the song?

I don't care if these stinking bastards have been around for 50 years and are about as long in the tooth as rock bands go. Will we now conveniently ignore the corrosive influence this band has been for that long a time?

Since Altamont in 1969 til now can anyone name one thing they and their entertainment have contributed to toward making America a better place to live and to affirm and advance conservatism?

Can someone who calls himself a conservative please try to make the case for celebrating the whining of THE confused Dark Angel of all Creation -- Satan -- the anti-Christ -- the epicenter of all EVIL in this world --- the patron saint of the Democrat party (there, I got your attention):

Go ahead --make a case if you can for that same Satanic whining that Mick Jagger has set to music and made his millions doing so all these years now heading to Israel to poison the atmosphere in the land that is "the apple of God's eye"

Let's all think a little deeper here before we are all so quick to celebrate this peddler of dreck.

You've thoroughly made your views clear. Thank you.

Now, Lighten up, Francis!

Mark

1. You article (which is just Iranian propaganda) conflicts with your statement that good Jewish people cannot be Zionist.

2. Further, the idea that Zionism requires some sort of Jewish “race” as stated in the article is just factually wrong. Any person, of any race, is welcome to become Jewish and make aliyah to Israel. Heck, Ms. Israel is black.

Your anti-Israel beliefs conflict with the beliefs of the founder of this site. Perhaps you should move over to the DU or Storm Front or the like.

There is no racial requirement to immigrate to Israel, and that is well known to all conservatives.

For you to restate such a well-debunked lie is evidence of either your idiocy or your agenda.

I can see how moronic some people are. The question came up as what was the difference between Zionism and Judaism. I posted a paragraph from one article then later added the URL to the article. When using my search engine I came up with 2,200,000 hits in just one search.

I suggest you argue with them.

This is what you said:

“If one is a good Jew, one cannot be a Zionist; if one is a Zionist, one cannot be a good Jew.”

Either admit your statement is wrong, or admit you are a NK, replacement theologian, or Islamist.

It was from the article. Read the whole thing.

Google=3,460,000 hits - Happy reading. It'll be a couple of years or more to answer and argue with them too. So that's like almost 6 million hits on: "What's the difference between Zionism and Judaism?" That's the question I posed in those search engines.

Ever bothered to read the lyrics, or did you limit your interest to the title of the song?

It seems that since your brand of "conservatism" is capable of turning a blind eye to the celebration of death, destruction, and blasphemy embodied in the lyrics of "Sympathy for the Devil" perhaps we'll just jog your memory so that all can see what it is you choose to celebrate, and still try to call yourself a conservative, shall we?

Please allow me to introduce myself

I'm a man of wealth and taste

I've been around for a long, long year

Stole many a mans soul and faith

And I was round when jesus Christ

Had his moment of doubt and pain

Made damn sure that pilate

Washed his hands and sealed his fate

Sure, MarkL, I get it. "Lucifer" is still here and Jesus isn't. "Lucifer" wins and Jesus looses, is that it, MarkL? And "Lucifer" sealed Jesus' fate? Funny, that's not the way Scripture tells it, but if you're OK with that and statements like that are OK with what passes for your brand of "conservatism," and that this is the kind of stuff you derive enjoyment from celebrating in this song, I will just let that speak for itself.

Pleased to meet you

Hope you guess my name

But what's puzzling you

Is the nature of my game

I stuck around st. Petersburg

When I saw it was a time for a change

Killed the czar and his ministers

Anastasia screamed in vain

Held a generals rank

When the blitzkrieg raged

And the bodies stank

Pleased to meet you

Hope you guess my name, oh yeah

Ah, what's puzzling you

Is the nature of my game, oh yeah

Still digging all this imagery MarkL? Finding your "conservatism" edified by these lyrics, are you?

I watched with glee

While your kings and queens

Fought for ten decades

For the gods they made

I shouted out,

Who killed the kennedys?

When after all

It was you and me

Who's "we" MarkL? Was it really you and me, MarkL? You need a history lesson, or are you still just enjoying the mind-numbing dis-information along with the beat?

Let me please introduce myself

I'm a man of wealth and taste

And I laid traps for troubadours

Who get killed before they reached Bombay

Pleased to meet you

Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah

But what's puzzling you

Pleased to meet you

Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah

But what's confusing you

Is just the nature of my game

Just as every cop is a criminal

And all the sinners saints

Believe that too, do you, really, MarkL? There is no right and wrong? Or has this music just infiltrated your mind the point that it's all just so "relative?"

As heads is tails

Just call me lucifer

Cause I'm in need of some restraint

So if you meet me

Have some courtesy

Have some sympathy, and some taste

Use all your well-learned politesse

Or I'll lay your soul to waste, um yeah

Lyrics like this are not an effrontery to your "conservative" philosophy? Really?

Pleased to meet you

Hope you guessed my name, um yeah

But what's puzzling you

Is the nature of my game, um mean it, get down

Woo, who

Oh yeah, get on down

Oh yeah

Oh yeah!

Tell me baby, what's my name

Tell me honey, can ya guess my name

Tell me baby, what's my name

I tell you one time, you're to blame

Ooo, who

Ooo, who

Ooo, who

Ooo, who, who

Ooo, who, who

Ooo, who, who

Ooo, who, who

Oh, yeah

What's my name

Tell me, baby, what's my name

Tell me, sweetie, what's my name

Ooo, who, who

Ooo, who, who

Ooo, who, who

Ooo, who, who

Ooo, who, who

Ooo, who, who

Ooo, who, who

Oh, yeah

One's conservative and spiritual immaturity might be expected to celebrate such crap, and to determine that it's worth wasting 5 minutes of one's listening life on this dreck. In your case there appears no lack of a manifestation of immaturity in the either context.

Quite simply, the song is written from the devil's perspective. In a lot of ways, it's a warning, and it shows how throughout history, MEN have accomplished the work of the devil.

Sure, MarkL, I get it. "Lucifer" is still here and Jesus isn't. "Lucifer" wins and Jesus looses, is that it, MarkL? And "Lucifer" sealed Jesus' fate?

So you're saying that the devil didn't tempt Jesus? And Jesus didn't die on the cross? And in the lyrics. as well as scriptures, it's Pilate, not the devil, who washed his hands and sends Jesus to crucifixion.

It places the devil at the hundred years war, the Russian revolution, WWII, in effect, the devil is involved in all human calamities. Not sure about the reference to Bombay though.

Sinners/Saints, Criminals/Cops, Heads/Tails: Remember, this is the devil talking, and he's the prince of lies, who excels in twisting truths and confusing even the best human being.

Hope you guessed my name, um yeah But what's puzzling you Is the nature of my game

Can a man, even the most pure hearted, ever try to beat the devil when the devil sets the rules? Best to avoid the devil and his works, which is the warning here:

So if you meet me Have some courtesy Have some sympathy, and some taste Use all your well-learned politesse Or I'll lay your soul to waste

Mark

Quite simply, the song is written from the devil's perspective.

What's troubling is that you seem to have no problem with that.

In a lot of ways, it's a warning, and it shows how throughout history, MEN have accomplished the work of the devil.

Actually, it's a threat. Enjoy being entertained by being threatened by Satan?

As heads is tails

Just call me Lucifer

Cause I'm in need of some restraint

So if you meet me

Have some courtesy

Have some sympathy, and some taste

Use all your well-learned politesse

Or I'll lay your soul to waste, um yeah

Lyrics like this are not an effrontery to your "conservative" philosophy? Really?

So you're saying that the devil didn't tempt Jesus? And Jesus didn't die on the cross? And in the lyrics. as well as scriptures, it's Pilate, not the devil, who washed his hands and sends Jesus to crucifixion.

That's not what I said. Christ certainly died on the cross of His own will, not Satan's and while Satan will would have been just as content to have had Jesus dead and buried -- i.e., Lucifer sealing his "fate," through Pilate's action -- He instead conquered Satan and conquered Death by rising again from the dead. BIG difference in the accuracy of the telling of that event.

But you won't hear about that in a song sung, as you correctly observe -- from the devil's perspective, now will you?

So, if you are or at least claim to be a Christian, what value is there for you to derive any amount of entertainment from anything belched at you from Satan's perspective?

Let's say that maybe you're not a Christian per se, but maybe just a nice guy who considers himself to be to some extent a "principled" conservative. Minimally, as a conservative, who appears to acknowledge Satan's hand in the all the events described, how do you justify being entertained by listening to the epicenter of evil reveling in his accomplishments?

Sinners/Saints, Criminals/Cops, Heads/Tails: Remember, this is the devil talking, and he's the prince of lies, who excels in twisting truths and confusing even the best human being.

Bingo! And you find all that to be so entertaining, why?

Can a man, even the most pure hearted, ever try to beat the devil when the devil sets the rules?

The devil doesn't set the rules for me. Does he for you? He will only if you allow him to.

Best to avoid the devil and his works....

And best not to allow yourself to find entertainment by him or a place in your life or in your time for any for him.

As for myself, speaking as both a Christian and as a conservative THAT is why it matters, and that is where I find the disingenuity and self-interest in anything Jagger says or does.

FReepers need to apply a lot more critical thinking to this whole thing instead of exhibiting a knee-jerk congratulations to this guy who has done so much over the years to oppose the conservative cultural values we presumably claim to cherish.

FReegards!

Well, we're just gonna have to agree to disagree. It's a song, nothing more. You choose to get your panties in a wad... Fine.

One of your objections is that the song is sung from the point of view of satan. So, does this also make CS Lewis a heretic, or at least evil? I mean, given how "The Screwtape Letters" were written as through from the viewpoint of a demon.

Just so you'll think I'm a total scumbag, I was also a huge fan of Black Sabaths's first album.

So keep on looking for satan's influence in music and other entertainment, and I'll end this with another, "Lighten up, Francis."

I don’t care about random anti-semites, I care about anti-semites that occassionally infect Freerepublic.

Is it, or is it not, your position that “one cannot be a good Jew and a Zionist.” That’s certainly what you said.

Well, we're just gonna have to agree to disagree. It's a song, nothing more. You choose to get your panties in a wad... Fine.

Make your excuses to me now and be prepared to stand in front of Jesus Christ some day and we'll see just how glib and dismissive you are as you try to make the same excuses to Him then.

One of your objections is that the song is sung from the point of view of satan.

My objection is that it is a song where satan revels in his destruction, chaos, and blasphemy and you -- a supposed conservative and possibly even a nominal Christian -- allow yourself to be entertained by such things. It provides readers with a unique window into what characterizes your brand of "conservatism" and into what passes for your level of maturity in Christian discernment.

So, does this also make CS Lewis a heretic, or at least evil? I mean, given how "The Screwtape Letters" were written as through from the viewpoint of a demon.

Mick Jagger expects you to derive entertainment and make him rich buying his music which celebrates satan's revelry in the destruction he has wreaked upon mankind and ends the song with taunts and threats.

If you ever read The Screwtape Letters to the point that you derived any meaningful level of familiarity with it you would know that CS Lewis neither promotes, celebrates, nor derives entertainment from the perspectives imputed to the demon the way you insist on being entertained by those who blaspheme and celebrate the perspective of satan.

You are being called to answer for that now. Just know that Someone someday greater than me will be asking you to give an account for choices in entertainment you made and in doing so who you chose to enrich -- and at the expense of what principles your entertainment came.

Just so you'll think I'm a total scumbag, I was also a huge fan of Black Sabaths's first album.

Do you, like satan in "Sympathy for the Devil," tell me this for purposes of taunting me, or merely to confirm what I said about what passes for your level of maturity -- or lack thereof -- in the context of Christian discernment?

So keep on looking for satan's influence in music and other entertainment, and I'll end this with another, "Lighten up, Francis."

And you can continue to enrich those who mock the conservative principles you pretend to affirm.

You will be called to answer for it someday.
