How New Mexicans Beat State Gun Control Legislation; How Others Can Do The Same

At the time, President Lincoln was speaking in the context of the horrors of the American Civil War. But his words are most appropriate at a time when Americans face great societal, economic, and political problems, be it health care, the national debt, and/or "gun control." In some ways, our country is divided. It doesn't have to be so. If people get involved with the democratic process, they can surely bring about astonishing changes for the betterment of our great nation. With a little effort, Americans can have "government of the people, by the people, for the people."

The politicians in Washington are inept, ineffective, pushing through unpopular legislation, and even arrogant towards their constituents. Why? Too many Americans are not engaged in our great nation's democratic process. Maybe people are very busy with their lives, have grown weary of the acrimony in Washington, or just plain don't care. They cannot afford to be disengaged. Our Founding Fathers would be very upset to see America's current state of affairs.

I spoke this morning before about 50 people attending a CCW (carrying a concealed weapon) permit class. They got fired up when I told them what a small but dedicated group of New Mexicans accomplished by defeating New Mexico House Bills 77 and 402, two very dangerous "gun control" measures. I got them all to send letters to New Mexico Rep. Lujan Grisham, Senator Udall, and Senator Heinrich opposing Senator Feinstein's heinous "assault weapons" ban (national). Note that what Feinstein calls "assault weapons" are not anything of the sort. They were eager to engage in the democratic process. After hearing about our defeating of HBs 77 (beaten) and 402 (beaten) by sending emails, calling the state capital, organizing on Facebook, etc., they saw proof positive that engaging in representative democracy works. In that spirit, I have gathered a plethora of resources you can use to fight Washington's attempt to destroy the Second Amendment to our great Constitution. Please use these resources yourself and distribute them as widely as possible.

As a resident of the state I can also state (pun intended) that probably 1/3 of the people in this state (male and female) actually hunt. It is a gun toting state, including the Democrats. I think the attempt to control the guns sales was simply a big daddy said to do it and so the compliant politicos here followed orders.

And my analysis in no way diminishes the splendid efforts of the population here to defeat this stupid bill. They did very good and have also sent a message to Santa Fe, watch out, we are keeping track of you.

My sources in Santa Fe say they're never received this many emails (8500) on any piece of legislation. Oh, and Senator Ivey-Soto got a "personal" call from VP Biden trying to pressure him. It didn't work. Thanks for your kind words.

I wished it would have worked here in Colorado, where the progressives ramrod several bills through the legislation. Hopefully we can get a ballot initiative this fall to reverse it. If not, Colorado might have fallen by the Kalifornian invasion.

Yes, I did.

I traveled the West and Midwest for 30+ years. That is one of many things I observed about the people who inhabit that space. Most of the people I did business with were independent small business owners. No finer people in the world.
