Why Has There Been No Revolution?
Freedom Outpost ^ | Mar. 23, 2013 | William Lafferty

Posted on 03/23/2013 11:28:26 AM PDT by EXCH54FE

When the central government in the United States rams through a 2700 page bill that was not read by any person who voted for it and whose impossible promises of more-for-less are now being revealed as a fraud; when the government, without apparent concern, rapidly inflates the national debt to 16 trillion that it will admit to (actually it’s 83 trillion); when the federal government sues the state of Arizona to stop it from guarding the borders and enforcing federal laws concerning illegal aliens; and when the government announces that it wishes to ban all weapons that would allow citizens to resist government overreaching, how far distant is revolution?

This question must have run through the minds of anyone who has read the newspapers for the last four or five years. In today’s Wall Street Journal in the “Notable & Quotable” column, historian Paul Rahe, citing Tocqueville, writes:

“One key indicator [of readiness for revolution] is that those with access to the levers of power within the ruling order cease to believe in the religion or ideology that legitimizes the regime. . . . First goes the belief in the legitimacy of the system. Then comes a trigger–an event which causes large numbers of people to say to themselves, ‘I cannot take this anymore.’ Then, the crucial question is whether those in charge have the nerve to try to crush the rebellion and whether their underlings will follow orders. If the powers that be are hesitant, ambivalent, or divided, if their underlings are fed up, things can very easily come apart (as they did in eastern Europe, in the Soviet union, and in Tunisia, Egypt, libya, and Syria).”

I suggest there has been no revolution because Obama and his lieutenants have been able to disguise his lack of belief in the legitimacy of the system as patriotism. It’s as if he were able to say, “Let’s destroy the health care system, let’s bankrupt the economy, let’s compromise the security of our borders, and let’s confiscate guns. It’s the American way.”

Good observation. I have long said that the Republicans should stop playing nice and just tell people (over and over and over): He's lying to you. He does not share American values. He's a grifter. He uses government to help friends, not voters. He's corrupt. This man is not interested in freedom or rights or a growing economy. He's not who he appears to be.

But the GOP is actively trying to "partner" with Obama, because "we're all in this together" and that maintains a kind of faith in the system which is quite unwarranted.

As I’ve always said, for a revolution to take place, the conditions have to be pretty dire (children being ripped from parents, etc.) People in general just want to get on with their lives and as long as they can have at least the illusion of doing so, they’re fine with that. Socialists asked the same question after WW1 and wonder why Russia went for a revolution instead of the industrialized West.

Obamacare has not gone full monte, when people learn of all the hidden taxes, I predict they will be plenty uncomfortable and very unhappy.
The low information voter has no idea that everytime helicopter Ben starts up the presses, and gives the money to Goldman Sachs, and wall street, that it really is a tax because their spending power just shrank a little more. They just look around and wonder why life seems to be getting harder, or worse, go get in line for Federal Goodies, and Think they are recieving Freebies.

There is no revolution because about 90% of the people in the USA have not a single clue what Tocqueville meant when he wrote:

“One key indicator [of readiness for revolution] is that those with access to the levers of power within the ruling order cease to believe in the religion or ideology that legitimizes the regime.

Most seem to believe we still are immersed in the ideology of Liberty that was a founding principle of this county. They think having the ability to choose "American Idol" or some other insipid TV show is Liberty.

The Revolution is already ON! The rebels have been able to disguise themselves as ordinary householders and merchants yet they have gone to great pains to arm themselves to the teeth and get briefings (from the internet and elsewhere) on the manufacture of molotov cocktails, mangles, use of fire, what to stash for survival during periods of civil disorder, etc.

The period of open combat has not yet arrived.

I agree.

Call him out.

Consistently, over and over again.

Take the heat of being called a racist.

And call him out some more.

This is war.

Make the MSM spin their wheels with their constant attacks of racism. It will grow old.

And call him out again.

Cut to the chase and tell the public they are being lied too.

Let the MSM spin. Nobody believes them anyway.

This is war.

I don’t think the average citizen is smart enough to identify the source of the infringement upon their property and rights.

They have drank the Kool Aid for so long that they have built up a tolerance to accepting falsehood and are just weak enough to acquiesce to any further assault upon their position.

Most liberals, even when shown point blank, the consequences of their decisions, blame it upon “Republicans”.

I pretty much agree with your assessment. Also the American people are slow to anger and tend to be pretty forgiving.

I’m pretty convinced the Rev is coming but there will have to be a tipping point like the economic collapse and Obama using it as a way to declare martial law and suspend elections or coming after the guns.

But its coming because you cannot have a country with the deep division we currently have between the percentage of the population that wants Socialism/Marxism and the percentage that want to restore the constitutional republic. Somebody has to win and somebody has to lose. It cannot go on indefinitely without resolution. IMO we are past the ballot box on the restoration of the republic.

America's backbone is being eaten away.

It was a foregone conclusion once the government schools were taken over by the radical leftists.

The leftist run schools have now churned out 2 to 3 generations of voting age people, most of whom have been brainwashed with socialist, politically correct dogma from their first days in kindergarten (or Head-Start).

Take a look at photos of TEA party gatherings.

The older generation outnumber young people by a large factor. Most young people today know almost nothing about American history, have been taught not to be judgmental, and have heads full of mushy leftist socialist, Feel-good propaganda.

Look at photos of rebellions around the world. It is not the grandmas and grandpas leading the way and manning most of the barricades.

Older generations are fed up and ready to do the job but history shows it is the young of nation who do the hard work of bringing about violent change.

The old generation of republicans are a big part of the problem - they go along with everything. When is the last time they did a massive walkout or a mass filibuster? Answer: Never in our memory.

They spend most of their time trying to take out the young guns in their own party instead of fighting the leftists.

Listen to what leftists really say - they know that once the older generations pass away they will have almost no opposition.

In terms of “real dollars”, and based on an IRS finding that premiums for a “bronze plan” would cost a family of four about $20,000 a year, we’re close to $5K per individual.

No revolution because the healthcare bill doesn’t affect people right away. It affects companies. And corps don’t lead revolutions. No revolution until the average guy on the street is fed up.

We are the leading edge. We are more aware.

Your right, and as for the Federal subsidy for the increased premiums...those parents can not make more than 144% of the Fed Poverty Level to qualify, so the cost will be an out of pocket expense for most working people.

I think the answer is more prosaic than this article states.

We had a revolution once. The southern states decided to take state soveriegnty to its ultimate level and broke off to form their own nation. The consequence was the most bloody war in American history. It took the South a century to recover.

There’s a dim memory of that conflict in the American understanding of revolution. A similar war with modern weapons would be horrific, and both sides know it - even the leftists, who crave violence and whose supporters have talked glibly about killing 25 million Americans in order to cement their rule.

So we dance around the issues, moving up to actual conflict with actually crossing the line.

The best scenario I can see is that the left tries some kind of burning of the Reichstag moment - which, if history serves correctly, will be an actual event like 9/11 conflated by the left for their own purposes, not a set-up like in Germany or a coup like in Russia. They’ll go overboard, and the entire country will go Galt on them, including many in the Washington infrastructure, leaving Obama and the high-level bureaucrats screaming orders that are ignored. Eventually someone steps in - the military, the states collectively, an administration official willing to take the chance - and announces that the republic has just missed the bullet, and we need to arrest the guilty and gather together to rebuild. That’s the best scenario.

On the other end of the spectrum, one or both sides will have nuclear weapons and no restrictions on their use; Sherman’s March to the Sea, with an army of drones and chemical weapons, carving a path from New York to LA. It would take more than a century to recover from that; it would be our own version of the Pelopenesian Wars.

God help us.
