Hillsborough County Commissioner Les Miller won board approval today to have the county attorney research whether the commission can ban assault weapon sales and high-capacity gun magazines, and require universal background checks for gun purchases.

Miller had minutes before voted with the rest of the board to create a violence prevention committee and spending $150,000 to hire a California nonprofit to help the committee develop a strategy to reduce violence.

Commissioner Kevin Beckner, who came up with the idea for the violence prevention committee, said he was worried that even researching significant gun control measures would arouse controversy that would hamper the committee’s work before it got started....

The town of Hillsborough has at least $150,000.00 too much. Taxes need to be lowered by at least that much immediately.

McDonald v. Chicago is a dead letter. Bloomie's bunch is attacking at the state and city level, and honestly, who is going to stop them? Citizens won't take up arms to stop it. Those who do will be gunned down by the cops in cold blood. We're screwed.

Hillsborough is one of Florida’s largest counties, and Tampa is the county seat

Hillsborough CTY is a big stronghold of the Scientologists, and is getting more and more liberal.

They are worried about doing a gun control survey.... because their shrinking number of conservatives will flee to next door Polk County

“.....develop a strategy to reduce violence.”

How about rounding up all the gang members in Hillsborough County?

Tampa just wasted $150K of taxpayer money. Oh, that’s right. What do they care? It’s not their money!

Probably cheap at twice the price (in todays prices).
I am not sure I would be putting all that much faith in a ‘California non-profit’ though.

Few years back some group in the Washington DC area (probably COG Council of Govt) paid BIG bucks to work out a plan for evacuating during a disaster.

They came up with sending people to various towns in WV and a few other great moves when one of the locals asked how they were going to move all the people in DC area to WV and they were told Metro Buses and naturally people with their own transportation.
Well how is that going to work when if snow is forecast or it starts drizzling at start of rush hour traffic gets set back couple of hours...’they’ had all the cookie cutter answers till one local sheriff asked how the buses were to move the majority of people (he was using such idiotic examples such as X # of people divided by X # of buses and the capacity etc).
The ‘genius’ just said “well the buses can come back for a second load” and he ‘gave up’ after he was asked who was going to ‘force’ a bus driver to come back to a nuclear zone when he was already safe?” “that is his job”.
Meeting over and they didn’t even get to ask how they expected to feed or house this great influx of people......

I’m sure with the California non profit doing the research, everything will be just fine.... /sarc...

Why would they go to California and not use someone here in Tampa?

Just garbage!

Im here in Tampa. Perhaps I should send that link to him and tell him to spend the money on how to prosecute commissioners who waste our money on unconstitutional and useless studies.
