I take humor in the fact that in every place where a white government was overthrown and land was forcibly seized that those countries become cesspools and unable to use the land to feed their masses within 2-3 years.

I am in no way condoning any oppressive government white or black, just saying. Ours is bad enough.

Are you suggesting that black South Africans were better off under apartheid. Living as fourth class citizens at best? No education, no civil rights, no legal rights, no say in the government, couldn't live where you wanted or go where you wanted or conduct business where you wanted? That's what they should have been happy with?

South Africa may be sinking into a cesspool but for black South Africans at least it's their cesspool. They're running the show now, they have to live with the consequences of their own decisions. I sympathise with the white South Africans but it's a situation they spent decades making so really they have only themselves to blame. And as for Mandela being a thug? Well he was no more or less a thug as his opposition, and used their own tactics to beat them.

He certainly had communist connections, but his rule as President was generally moderate.

The African National Congress was for all intents and purposes a Communist organization. It received arms, funds, training, and logistical support from Communist nations during the Cold War.

More importantly, the ANC was terrorist to the core. Their preferred MO was the lovely practice of "necklacing" - putting a tire around the neck of a white, a Zulu, or moderates within their own tribe and party, filling it with gasoline, and lighting it on fire. Whether Mandela was ever personally responsible for these actions is irrelevant, he knew of them and was associated with people who did.

It was sickening to see a statue of Mandela erected in Parliament Square (it almost displaced Lord Nelson in Trafalgar Square). They wouldn't think of erecting a statue of Yasser Arafat, so why is Mandela regarded as a hero, not only by his people, not only by leftists, but by many mainstream and even "conservative" westerners as well? His political affiliations and MO were much like Arafat's. The only difference was that his targets were Afrikaaner whites.

The best that can be said about Mandela is that he wasn't a full-fledged thug like Mugabe. He realized that South Africa would completely implode, as his ex-wife Winnie had wanted to do, all whites were driven out or murdered. So at least he had a pragmatic side, but that's faint praise indeed.

Years ago I met some Afrikaners @ OSH at the air show, their was a quiet fury and or bitterness but not outright anger as to how they lost land etc. At the time I didn't get it, It was redistribution of wealth. I guess they felt they worked their @$$es off as immigrants to make it their paradise only to have it taken away...
