It was sickening to see a statue of Mandela erected in Parliament Square (it almost displaced Lord Nelson in Trafalgar Square). They wouldn't think of erecting a statue of Yasser Arafat, so why is Mandela regarded as a hero, not only by his people, not only by leftists, but by many mainstream and even "conservative" westerners as well? His political affiliations and MO were much like Arafat's. The only difference was that his targets were Afrikaaner whites.

The best that can be said about Mandela is that he wasn't a full-fledged thug like Mugabe. He realized that South Africa would completely implode, as his ex-wife Winnie had wanted to do, all whites were driven out or murdered. So at least he had a pragmatic side, but that's faint praise indeed.
