I have one of those, in addition to the normal brooms.
They are used for sweeping rough and rocky surfaces outdoors, not for indoor sweeping.

An army buddy who had little or no Thai language ability once tried to sound like he was speaking Thai. He asked my at that time gf, "ช่องอะไร" (chaawng arai?)
She replied "ช่องแปด" (chaawng bpaaet.)
He thought he was sounding cool. She thought he spoke Thai. I laughed my ass off.
Our TV was on. He had no idea that he had asked "What Channel?" and she'd replied "Channel eight."
