Miley Cyrus - No Shame At MTV Awards
Political Realities ^ | 08/26/13 | LD Jackson

Posted on 08/26/2013 5:33:47 AM PDT by LD Jackson

Allow me this morning to make a detour from my regular posting about news and politics. There are some things that go beyond the pale and are hard to describe, but beg to be written about. Without sharing the video of Miley Cyrus and her raunchy dance at the opening of the MTV Video Music Awards, I can not describe the disgust I felt. I was doing my normal reading of the news this morning and came across a website that had a copy of the video embedded. I made it through to the point where she took off her clothes before I turned it off. I couldn't stand watching this young woman degrade herself any longer.

Just so we are clear, I normally do not watch such videos. I am a fan of gospel music, with a few country songs (if they aren't about cheating and drinking) tossed in for flavor. I do not listen to, or watch, the kind of music and videos that are making millions by selling sex and raunchy behavior to teenagers. If you want to see what I mean, I am sure you can find the video of Miley Cyrus and her dance at the MTV awards. If you haven't seen it, trust me when I say this, it's downright nasty.

I have watched a few clips of the Disney show that starred Miley Cyrus as Hannah Montana. It seemed to be a fairly wholesome show about a teenage girl who was a pop idol in her secret life. The clips I have watched were funny and the show seemed to be more of a comedy than anything else. That's a far cry from what climbed out of the belly of a giant teddy bear last night when the MTV awards opened with Miley Cyrus.

I am not a naive person. I have no problem grasping the concept that not everyone holds the same moral values that I hold, that I was taught when I was a boy. I have no problem realizing that not everyone likes the same kind of music. Many of the bloggers I am acquainted with share some of their rock and roll music with their readers and from time to time, I have shared some of the gospel music I enjoy. That's not what this post is about.

There are many people in America who bemoan the fact that our children seem to hold little or no morals. Many of them wonder why this is, but it shouldn't be a big surprise. We have teenager girls acting like little sluts and teenage boys acting like hoodlums and gangsters. Those kind of lifestyles seem to be glorified in our country. And we have the audacity to wonder why this is happening? Take a look at the MTV awards last night and you might get a clue.

Is there any wonder why we see so many teenagers with drug, alcohol, and sex problems? When they look up to and worship someone like Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga, what else can we expect. Garbage in, garbage out.

I don’t get the twerking thing.

As I said, I am not a prude, old fogey. I enjoy sex with my wife. I enjoy looking at pretty girls.

The only time in my life when I did anything even closely resembling this is when I played college football. As a center, the QB would put his hands under and when I hiked the ball sometimes it would move my, ahem...protection, out of place. I would have to grab it and do a little hop on the way to the huddle.

That felt good.

So, I guess I can understand why they do it. But why are they wearing a cup when they sing?

Codpiece imagery/sexual agression

Blackie Lawless from WASP used to wear a buzzsaw codpiece.

In the case of women wearing one, it hints at a strap on without the ‘total package’.

What a fast transition from Disney heroine to trashy slut. I remember part of her powerdive when she strutted on stage with small leather fig leaf shorts(?) and no undies but a proud smile.

Miley Cyrus looks to be this decade's version of Britney Spears. A lot of musicians are self-destructive: Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Elvis Presley, Hank Williams, Sr., Billie Holliday. Actors have similar problems, as do writers. Until the 1960s, performers who had evident problems were removed from the mainstream and relegated to the margins, like obscure nightclubs and the bohemian districts of cities like New York or San Francisco, the fate of Lenny Bruce or Allen Ginsburg. Vulgar performances were rare; even suggestive ones were toned down or censored, e.g., Elvis Presley's hip swivels on the Ed Sullivan Show.

American society lost its moral compass decades ago. That moral compass was based on Biblical principles.

I posted "Alas, Brave New Babylon" on FR today. This article echoed a little section of my story to the T.

"The ubiquitous entertainment screens were perfect for one thing (and they kept this distinction right to the end): distracting the masses. Better than any mule’s blinkers, the pleasure screens both attracted the eyes and fed the mind happy messages. Whatever you wanted, they were serving it 24/7 on a thousand television channels and a million interactive websites. Pick your poison. Entertain yourself to death.

"What was the name of that pop star vixen at the last Super Bowl? She was wearing a dominatrix outfit with shiny sharpened rivets in the usual places. And where did she come by her Aldous Huxley, singing “hug me till you drug me, kiss me till I’m in a coma,” nearly word for word from Huxley’s Brave New World? No doubt she’d never read a book in her life, much less that one.

"Before the collapse, the high-def screens had allowed each watcher to choose from a virtual infinity of customizable fantasies, but there was usually nothing behind those magical glass windows but a plasterboard wall and another stark habitation cubicle built the other way around for the next inhabitant over. Within the dying hive there was no incoming food, fuel, or running water. Not even electricity to move the stale air.

"Soon after the screens went black, the pharmacy-dispensed medications ran out as well, the cold-turkey withdrawal pouring more fuel on our raging social fires. Our Brave New World featured Huxley’s “Christianity without the tears,” until the Soma was gone. A gram is better than a damn, until there are no more grams left but plenty of damnation to go around—and people are damned mad when they’re starving."

It’s a gay man’s idea of what sells to horny teens. That’s it.

That's a perfect description of most television programming.

Miley is on the same slut trajectory as Brittany and Lindsey. Not going to turn out well.

“It’s a gay man’s idea of what sells to horny teens”

BINGO

Bette Midler, Madonna and GaGa are has-beens
The bathhouse community has its new goddess

But...what parent in their RIGHT MIND would let their kid attend a concert by this trashpiece? As Hannah Montana she had the 8-12’s

Now I cannot IMAGINE who she thinks she is playing to

guilty white liberals who don’t want their kids to be labeled “H8ters”??

Billy Ray is encouraging it! Remember her pole dance last year-—he was up front cheering her on!

Wasn’t this new craze of ‘twerking’ started by that surfer girl who ued to do some sort of sleazy dance as her ‘warmup’

No idea how it helped her surfing...
